I hope so, but it seems kind of slow

This is the second time there has been a "VR surge", with the first one happening in the mid-90's.

Current VR is much better, with better graphics in games, higher-res screens to look at them, and much more powerful hardware driving everything. It will STILL probably fail, since (so far) current VR:

-is extremely expensive
-is too messy (500 wires from 12 different sources all converging on your head)
-has limited good games

It will most likely die, just like what happened in the 90's. 20 years from now, a new VR boom will come along, maybe with 8K@240Hz screens for each eye, with a headset that works wirelessly, and a large library of good games. Then it might have better success.
>>
As an early adopter to the VR scene this generation, its not ready for wide spread consumer use. It's a technical demo of the current state of the technology but everything from hardware ease of use, size, positional tracking, input methods, and graphical fidelity all are not robust enough for the typical casual. Right now it requires that you have a pretty superb GPU which most people either don't have yet or think are too expensive to buy. Not even to mention the intricacies of the new hardware integration and random issues that still need to be resolved like headset jitter from poor tracking solution and movement/motionsickness issues with some people.

Its simply not there yet. And this is coming from somebody who ran out and bought a Vive and recently got a gtx1080 just for VR. Its fun and unique. Every person I showed it to thought it was fun. But it just can't be that replacement UI for a standard controller and TV yet.
>>
>>56314634
The technology just is not there yet, like >>56317137 said, we need a better input method, but that is veeeeeeeery tricky.
>>
So tired of poltards running perfectly good images with the meme hat
>>

no ar is the future normal fags will peddle and choose.thnx, pokemon go
>>
VR sucks and is a meme
Once the japanese get on board and we get waifus maybe then it will be worth something
>>
>>56316953
Vive has exactly one cable. Didn't find mobility to a problem at all.

But I agree that it's way too expensive and it's also still too clunky.
And then we already have a really well established control scheme for our games and I think that's going to be the main problem VR is going to face.
For example, I don't know how well VR works in the shooter market which probably is going to be among the largest genres for the forseeable future.
>>
Dev with a vive here,
Current hardware is still development kits, nothing more. Don't even get me started on the rift.
The tech in the vive is fucking fantastic, too bad for the screens.

I'm guessing they'll be hobby toys for the next year maybe, then the software and silicone will catch up and they'll go mainstream.
Releasing the rift to developers first was a good idea, but everything made for the rift DK*'s is fucking worthless on current hardware.

>>56318021
I rather have them posting trump hats on anime girls than them being moralfags and hating on anime because muh degeneracy.

>>56314634
It will only take off if more people start buying them.
If it fails again its not going to be reattempted again for many years.
Procesessing power is literally platuing. What we have now is going to be mid grade in 15 years. The 90's attempt was literally just a decade too soon.
The oculus rift is just a hand full of sensors and a cell phone screen. Once it stops being a super niche market, then it will be affordable. Its like when lcd tvs first game out they were expensive as fuck, then everyone started buying them and now you can buy a 40' for 200.

Make these things go main stream, and then you can afford one yourself.
>>
It'll take off in Japan.
Japan is really taking advantage of this new tech so expect to see some amazing things.

Oh, and porn. VR porn is going to push VR into reality.

>>
It's prohibitively expensive, if PSVR hits a home run then maybe there'll be a future for it.
>>
This wave is the real thing - it's going to catch on.

Keyword: going.

I have a vive, and while it's a fucking great experience, there are no fucking games

or at least not nearly enough non-tech-demo experiences.

software will come when the userbase comes, and the userbase will come when the price drops, and the price will drop over the next couple years.

remember how the first iphone was like 600$?
and how you can now buy something with equivalent or better specs for 20$ at wallgreens?

Looks like the people doing those shops don't actually watch anime and just do it to seem normal on the site they're on.

I'll get VR when the next hardware refresh comes out in a few years.

This is probably the best course of action to take. It'll be cheaper and likely more powerful, and the performance demands will be a lot more easily met.

I have a plastic box I wear on my head that my phone fits into.
It cost €8... which is likely about $750 in pretend money.

I is ready.

You can just stay on your starting planet for the entire game. 18 quintillion planets my ass.

Oculus killed VR,
that is what is happened

Facebook Oculus Tm has set us back another 100 years
>>
Its fun with sim games but overall because the actual "made for VR" games are by indie retards theyre short as hell and overexpensive so there is no incentive to buy them to support the developers

hopefully with some support like fallout 4 and doom coming early-mid next year we'll see something of what vr games can actually be like but voerall unless AAA uptake happens nobody is going to give a shit in a couple of years

pretty hecking epic for pornography and watching films in though, supersampling makes the film look good enough and you can watch 3d shit
>>
>>56324168
>remember how the first iphone was like 600$?
Remember how the price of the iphone only goes up each generation?
>>
>>56324669
I think I have a good idea
>>
>>56325184
>tfw its true
I saw $20 "vr headsets" at walmart the other day, so maybe the retard market might breathe some life into it.
>>
>>56314634
Think about it this way, even though dev kits for the occulus have been out for a while, no serious dev has been doing anything with it. You're going to see actual quality games in the next year or two. Possibly even longer. Game dev takes time.

The hardware is good, and it's not that expensive. People shell out a lot for video game machines, and from what I have personally experienced, the Vive is really immersive.

The early adopters are going to be people who like sim stuff, and they're used to spending money, but, like I said, $800 is not that expensive. It's expensive, but not prohibitively.
>>
>>56324538
she wouldn't give a fuck cause she can just change everything to be in her liking
>>

Then why wouldnt she change America great again?
>>

>Is VR ever going to actually take off soon?

it's already dead
>>
>>56314634
I-I'm still waiting on that linux support
>>
>>56325538
remember how there are actually affordable smartphones now that are half the price of the iphone and still have quality hardware?

my point isn't that flagship hardware isn't going to be expensive, my point is that VR will become affordable in the next couple years.
