Are we at least 10 years past the golden age of /g/ related consumerwhoredom? I remember when my family got a computer in 2001 at the age of 9, part of the wonder was all the software you could download to do cool things. These days you guys have to satisfy yourselves by spending $ 100 on strange shaped chinese hardware, having an app that slighty changes the way you browse your phone, or spending 10,000 hours, getting 500 certs, and working for 1000 hour so you can learn enough about linux to change the task bar's colour.
Has this dimension been lost as computer operating systems are more and more walled gardens? Or does it still exist and you've moved on to better things because you're older?

Yes.
Wut?
It's what you make of it. I just finished putting mpv and surf on my netbook, it's maximum comfy now. Pic related.
Hell, you can now get a ps4 to play your steam games, so I think this age is loads more awesome than the 90s or early 2000s, as you can buy pretty much anything for cheap, enabling you to do this kind of shit.
I recentally pirchased thr program Filter Forge and have been having a blast.
Sorry yourr so disillusioned, OP.

Learn to do more with less. The Bronze Age isn't bad when you know how to work it. Now, the dark ages to come in the following years will suck, but might as well enjoy things before then!
