What is your favorite running shoe brand? How long in average does your running shoes last?
While researching I read this article:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2015/11/19/expensive-running-shoes-are-no-better-and-often-worse-than-cheaper-ones/
That lead me to this website:

Who else /monkmode/ here?
The monk life is one that has always intrigued me. In the absence of a chance to truly pursue Buddhist monkdom at a monastery for a long period of time, I can pursue the spiritual excellence here, in my life, starting now.
There are several tenants to my specific spiritual pursuance. My journey as a monk shall be rigid and scheduled. I have the power, the willpower, to destroy every boundary that I encounter. I have the power to achieve the body of my dreams. Not only do I have the power, but it’s actually very easy. The only thing I need to do is hack my motivation, and truly try.
The Tenants of Monkmode
>Animals are sentient beings. They are capable of experiencing happiness and suffering. Their lives have the potential to be good, and they have the potential to be bad. For that reason a vegan lifestyle is the only ethical way to approach monkmode.
>A follower of monkmode does not give into bodily desires for instant gratification. Masturbating will not be entertained. However, monkmode does not require that a follower shy away from sex, if the opportunity presents itself.
>Along the same lines, a monk will not give into gluttony. If the body needs nourishment, the body will get nourishment. Any other substance put into the body for any other purpose is poison. The exception of course is cannabis which is, quite literally, dope.
>A monkmode follower will keep his body in prime condition by exercising on a strong, regimented schedule that never wavers. A monk will always continue to improve in his fitness journey.
>A monk will also exercise his mind, meditating on a daily basis, always striving for a deeper understanding of the fictional self. A monk will work to increase his understanding of the mind and of meditation at all times.
>A monk will supply his mind with healthy food the same way he does his body, reading a broad array of books daily. The content will focus on Eastern philosophy, feeding the monk’s spiritual journey.

For the mind yes but I like to lift and that wouldn't make sense for a monk
Godspeed monkman

I've never been on /fit/ before but I figured this would be a good start for my question. I work a valet job from 9pm-6am the next morning every night for two years now, and I seem to always be tired. I will sleep from 7am when I get home until 8pm the next day easily and sleep through alarms for hours after they start ringing without ever even stirring and when i do wake up, sometimes I'm still exhausted, while my coworkers seem to be able to wake up at 3 pm no problem. Are there any sups or anything I can do to help my body wake up at a reasonable time; or am I doomed to over sleep for important things during the day for the rest of my life?
Tl; dr how can I make my body know when it's time to wake up?
Pic unrelated, sorry if this isn't a good board for this, I didn't know where else to post.
>>39228405
As someone who regularly does stretches of graveyard, and finds it easier than day shift, there is a natural rhythm your body is in and for some people it is the day shift that works and others it's graveyard.
I would recommend attempting to lucid dream. You can set totem sounds that play to you all day and night that trigger a "dream check". Basically when you hear your sound, you count your fingers and try to read signs the same way twice, and many other things. Eventually you'll catch yourself in a dream, then you'll do it again and again. You wanna do this because then you can control what happens in the dream, inducing yourself to wake up when a new totem sound plays- an alarm.sound that shares characteristics with your normal totem but is different and only plays once when you're supposed to wake up.

Anyone here lift and box?
How does lifting and boxing go together?
Is boxing a good way to learn how to defend yourself?
>>39227830
They don't very well desu. Most lifters don't have the full body coordination to box initially and end up gassing out.
You could lift, but only after training sessions otherwise you're likely to hurt yourself because you'd have weaker muscle groups.
And if you do lift, do compound exercises of you can, to tire out everything at the same pace. Otherwise again, you're likely to injure yourself.
An example would be a lead hook, if you tire out your pecs then you inevitably end up throwing at a wider elbow and shoulder angle. That ends up putting extra strain on your shoulder joint and can injure it.
I can't say anything about self defence since I've never had to use it, but I have good enough technique and bare hand conditioning to throw hard enough to knock somebody out without breaking my hand.
>>39227853
Thanks man. You still think it's too much if you're a natty guy working out 3-4 days a week?
>>39227865
Im saying you can, but you need to change your routine.
The most important muscles for beginners are your shoulders, pecs and triceps. Since you need good shoulder strength for good defence form, pecs for round punches and triceps for speed.
If you do chest and triceps, I. E. Benches then you'll perform shit the next day. Simple as that, so you need to tailor accordingly.
Later on once you can train and not have sore shoulders, chest and triceps, then the weakest link becomes your legs for mobility and power generation. Then you need to adjust your leg day accordingly. The it's core for stability, dodging and more power on hooks. And you again need to change your routine to compensate.
Some boxing coaches advocate no lifting whatsoever since it does make you slower, but imo as long as it's compound exercises it's okay.
Today is my 5th day of not going to the gym due to depression and anxiety(note social anxiety). I don't know what to do anymore. I'm not going to make it. Also mental health /fit/ thread.
>>39227424
Man I'm actually in the same boat. How about this? Fucking go to the gym today, and I promise I will too.
Just fucking go. Go, and make sure you work out harder than you've worked out in a while. You should be working yourself to the point where you stop giving such a fuck about the people around you. And I promise you, when you get done with that workout and get back home to your cozy space where you feel so at home, you'll feel absolutely euphoric.
But you have to just go, and so do I, so let's do it boiiii
I've got anxiety too and thats my go to method, is thinking of the fucking high I get after working my ass of in the gym. I promise it'll totally turn your week around.
I'm gonna slam a power nap then head immediately to the gym, and I expect you to go as well you glorious mother fucker.
>>39227424
You think no reputation is better than a bad one... just get out there and break some hearts, fail their expectations, not on purpose but because they are not YOUR purpose. Go to every end to avoid vice (like depressing/nostalgic thoughts) because vice has no end. Learn to say "no" and not give a fuck for anyone's input who hasn't earned enough of your trust. Hate to go all fight club on you but the worst thing that will happen is some imbecile beats you up for being insensitive. If you feel this might happen get a good one in first.

So, /fit/, what makes you so special?
Aesthetics and strengths aside, what are some other skills you have?
Personally, I used to be able to do handstands and splits, and people have always been miring that far more than my 3pl8 squat.
