Electrician here. My last thread died out, so here's a new one.
Ask me anything.
>>1066506
Should I get a multimeter?
do you get along with plumbers?
>>1066506
Do you need a true RMS or autoranging multimeter for your work? What education do you have?
so I'm wondering if you guys have either used or thought about using concrete cloth materials?

it seems like something right up y'alls alley out here. especially for the bunker-nuts.
ALSO WHAT COOL SHIT HAVE YOU MADE FROM CONCRETE GUYS?

wizard tower from concrete pipe
>>1044082
oh?
>>1044068
I have never before heard of this shit and it's the coolest thing ever.
You just changed my life forever.
Thank you.
I work at a place that pours concrete countertops and things.
Here's from my kitchen.
Does any /diy/er have a preferred source for raw materials?
I need to get some brass or bronze between 1 and 2mm for a project but my local metal supply only has rods and square rods.
I really don't want chink mystery metal to be the literal chink in my armor.

>google metal supplier *city*
>call them and ask

small amounts look at hobby stores ( hobby lobby/michaels/etc )
enco/msc can be good from time to time with free shipping
>>1080770
Literally covered that in the post.
>>1080771
Hobby lobby? I looked in that store once and it was nothing but home decor and wood shapes. Didn't see a single hobby item except a rather decent paint section.
I'll check the other two you listed, I don't need much, just need high quality. Fastanal wanted something like $60 a foot for some.
Recently met a single mother, we smoke on the deck of her rented duplex as to not bother her young child.
With winter fast approaching, how would I enclose this or a portion of it without building a frame and so on since its a rented place? This is northern Canada cold.
>>1080590
Plywood floor? That won't last very long.
Anyway, How enclosed are way talking? Roof and walls? Make a frame out of 2x2 wood or PVD and put a tarp/canvas/plastic over it. Or maybe pick up a cheap greenhouse somewhere and fit that to your needs. Whatever you do, it ain't gonna be warm. But you can hope for is that it will keep the wet and the wind off you.
>>1080600
Well, it doesn't need to be all perfect or water/weather proof. Just some help from the snow/wind would be good. I would build an entire frame and close it all off, but I am worried that her landlord will speak up.
Greenhouse could work. or some plastic perhaps
>>1080590
Get a small party tent and cut up the rods and tarp to fit the balcony.
You can tie the corner posts to the railing, jerry rig something for the roof (duck tape the sides and top to the balcony wall if necessary).
I have a 16 x 20 workshop that I'm turning into a small house for the Mother In Law.
>inb4 OPs cuck shed
For too many reasons I can't run the plumbing to it's currently location, so I need to move it.
In all I need to just move it 50 ft to the new location. I could hire somebody but since it's so small I was wondering if there's any way to /diy/ it since it's such a short move.
I do have access to large tractors and other equipment if that helps.
>>1080510
What kind of foundation is it on?
>>1080522
Pier and beam. Sorry I didn't mention that as it makes it easier to move.
>>1080510
>small house for the Mother In Law.
just let her live in your house, she wont like the cuck shed and youll never hear the end of it anyway. plus the only time she wont be in your house is when shes sleeping. So keep the shop for yourself and give the bitch a bedroom
Let's talk machines
I'm currently doing an intership as a part of my EE education, and I have just about no formal education in EE or machines or anything of the sort.
My boss and I agree that it'd make sense to automatize some parts of the production line with machines since it'd be fairly easy to do. So that's one of the things I'm working on now.
Discuss machines that you built, post satisfying machine videos, etc.
pic related, a CNC I built in the little time of formal education that I received.
>>1080494
I like you toolhead ;)
I went to school for IE and to get any real use you had yo be a self starter, we were fortunate to have a lab that we could play with but it was all a solo activity. I got a 3d printer from mono price to learn on for $300 bucks, past that maybe plc's via an audrino
David then applied some sealant.
It rained really heavily just recently and the sump pump didn't kick on. The GFI tripped on the outlet the pump was hooked to and I wasn't home. Water came in through the floor.
Now, there are a couple of factors in this situation that confuse me. I'm looking for opinions and possibilities that I might not have considered yet.
So, I found water on the floor the next morning. No traces of water coming in from anywhere aside from where the new concrete floor meets the old walls. The foundation walls have some cracks, but they're in the right spots and they're in good shape. They didn't let any water through at all.
The water that seeped through only came in on the base of the walls that are underground.
The water only came through in certain spots. Maybe five or less small streams per wall, scattered along the perimeter.
I was able to see the water trails through sawdust that was on the floor.
The sump pump pit we installed was only half way full. No water came out of the pit from hydraulic pressure, like it was supposed to. Instead of overflowing out of the pit it seeped out from the base of the foundation.
I understand that a new concrete floor poured up to old concrete footings and foundations will have some porous and unsealed parts. It wouldn't be perfect.
But I'm not completely convinced that had the sump pump been running, water wouldn't have come in.
Also, we didn't grade the drain tile ditch. This worries me.
Does anyone know of any sealants or methods that could help my situation?
Also, general stain and sealant thread. I'll answer any questions about the job I just completed. It was well worth the work to have such a beautiful floor.
Thanks,
Will.
Well, the first part got cut off.
My father and I redid a concrete floor. We jack hammered the old floor, removed debris, installed drain tile and a sump pump.
We stained the floor and applied some sealant. The floor is less than two months old.

I thought this was an attempt at blank verse at first.
repurposing an old ('78) space invaders can into a raspberry pi multimedia arcade machine monster... should i tear up the cab in order to fit 2 players?
>>1079635
Are you serious? Fuck no. Old arcade machines in good condition are becoming rarer and rarer treasures. What you should do is use it as a template and build another cab to do whatever with.
>>1079683
it's already gutted. it was only a shell when I got it. I put an LCD monitor in it, and a couple of 4" JBL speakers on top. I donated the control panel to "the Galloping ghost" in Brookfield, IL. (great place, bro... check it out if you have the chance) It's just that the cabinet is not wide enough for two players. so.... make it a one player arcade?
>>1079715
If it was already gutted, sure. Go for it. Post a build log sometime for us!
I've got a line on some old, gutted, cabs or by me. Been thinking of doing a project. Just can't decide if it will be a mame cabinet or a an MVS.
I have 6 of these, what should I make with them?
Not interested in forging them since I don't have a forge or anvil.
>>1079200
Forge them into a dildo
>>1079200
You should hammer one into each of your eyes so hopefully you won't come here asking bullshit again.
Go to zednoughtalpha's YouTube. You can see how to make an anvil using four and a cheap forge. Forge the others
I've got a sweater that I bought online, the site said it would be charcoal but it's pretty light grey and I don't like it - how hard is it to just dye it black or dark grey at home?
Would that ruin the sweater, I like the sweater I just don't like the color that much.
Easy. Wait, it actually depends on the fabric, THAT YOU DIDN'T FUCKING POST.
If it's wool/polyester I have no idea. Cotton is easy.
Any synthetic fabric is impossible to dye, they add dyes while making the plastics initially
As for wool, that is very difficult as well but doable with certain dyes (and often they don't hold the dye long)
Cotton is easy
Is 80/20 Cotton/Polyestery dyeable? I've nver done anything like this before but I'm thinking about dying one of those flecktarn parkas black so it comes out like pic related. How does dyeing interact with a pattern already on the item? Does it recolor the pattern or just override it and make it the dye color? Sorry for the basic questions, I don't really have a clue at this point
can i use Acrylic latex caulk to fill in the gaps near my radiator pipes? they are about 1-2cm wide, large enough for small rodents to come through, which is the #1 reason i want to patch these holes.
if you mean around the hot water lines, that does not sound like a great idea unless you're using a kind made for contact with high heat
if there is a large enough hole, I'd just use a thin piece of metal with a hole in it, screwed to the surface on either side of the pipe
shoot, you could probably even use steel wool
>>1078369
>steel wool
i heard that the mice will try and eat through the steel wool, and then it will kill them and they'll die in the walls and rot there.. leaving behind a corpse and a bad smell..
>>1078371
considering their talent for not getting caught other ways, it seems they would be smart enough to just chew through the normal wall after having trouble with the steel wool
another option I'd suggest is fireblock expanding foam
if you're really worried about them trying to eat stuff, just use some sheet metal....they cannot chew though that period
Hello guys, i'm about to turn a minibus into a "helicopter" for a projekt. It's supposed to transport about 40 people, 7 at a time about 5 km. I've got the sound fixed, but i need ideas on spotlight and atmosphere in general (apart from the sound), and was hoping you guys might have some.
GIVE ME IDEAS, SOLUTIONS, AND INSPIRATION!!!!
Stop fucking yelling you whiny attention whore. You made a fucking shitty thread now deal with it bitch
>>1076282
It's stupid idea, you know nothing about helicopters. It's not jusy "I'll put engine here and it'll go vroom" it's massive chunk of engineering and you can't just build heli...
That van will tear apart because CARS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO FLY!
My tenants are too stupid and lazy to get up and take their garbage to the curb on collection day, so now there are rats under the front deck. What's the quickest and most discreet way to get rid of the vermin (the rats, not the tenants, they have been given a written warning)?
I'm trying to rent out another unit in the house, so I don't want to have rat traps around the property. Also, if I use poison is there any chance that neighborhood cats will eat it and get kill? That isn't my biggest concern desu but I would prefer to avoid it.
I'm also curious about how much it would cost to get an exterminator to do this. I'm going to do the work myself but I intend on charging it to their security deposit.
>>1075486
just get a free quote from a pest control business in your area
>>1075470
Just use poison under the deck. If the neighborhood cats haven't gotten under there taken care of them already then they aren't likely to ingest the poison.
I'm thinking about making a drone. I have a little experience with electronics and soldering. I'm thinking about making a small (indoor) model but I would like to eventually make a racing drone
What are some good resources and do any of you have any tips or advice?
I always look for a kit when it something I haven't got a clue on how to do.
Best source of info on DiY drone : rcgroups.com.
I built myself some with help from that forum.

Suggestions for where to get apple juice in 1 gallon glass jugs?
The health food store has organic stuff but it's at least like $8 or $9. Wallyworld has one for store pickup that's only $5 but it is a smaller jug.
>>1066760
Just bottled my oatmeal stout, I threw in a cup of mayan spicy hot chocolate powder near the end of the boil to see what would happen, it actually tastes not bad.
>>1066760
Gahhh op just go to an apple orchard
>>1067059
trying to save some scratch by getting the juice and jug at the same time
just a jug alone would be like $8 from amazon
