The problem is, that another one tried to get out of it's egg, but the umbilical cord seems too thick, it doesn't cut and its bleeding ( the yellow one in pic related ) Should I help him and cut the cord?

as far as shitposting goes this is a bit creative but not believable at all.

I miss the days when you would ask us how to paint your computer fans to make them look like gaming fans.
>>
>>1227780
This is /diy/. As in, do it YOURSELF. Asking how to do it YOURSELF would be borderline acceptable, but you're not. If you can't do it YOURSELF, go to /r/ or /wsr/. This is probably the nicest reply you're going to get, by the way.
Now get off my board.

Does anyone here like to put together old guitars? If so, where do you find your screws and parts?

>pic related
I recently got this at a yard sale and I am looking to fix it up. It has a few screws that don't match the other and missing knobs, bar for the vibrato mechanism, and bar on the head stock to hold the strings down.

Can I go into hardware stores to look for the screws or should I buy a whole new set of matching screws? Is there a one stop place for guitar parts?
22 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
Better off just getting thicker screws that catch a thread in the wood, unless you could be bothererd chasing the size down. I have had a lot of old guitars that chucklefucks have totally destroyed by removing screws and then reinserting them at the wrong angle multiple times.
Guitar parts, and everything "vintage" guitar-wise is a total meme and ripoff. When it comes to simple universal things you will be paying 10% of the price just going to a hardware store.

Also what the hell is that thing, looks like a cross between an SG and a telecaster?
>>
>>1226625

should be fine with a trip to home depot or lowes or any other hardware store. I always use a little wood filler on the screw before screwing it in if there's a hole that's too big. just don't expect to get it out anytime soon

above is also how i mount straplocks to guitars. those long screws sometimes are too skinny for the stock holes so i dunk em in wood filler and let them set. haven't had a problem in 10+ yrs
>>
>>1226636
>>1226625

also yes, what kind of guitar is that? those pickups look fake.

I got this old van, looks like pic related. It's a bit rusty, and everything, including the doors are metal. How do I install carpet or wood over it? Also plan on puting some kind of love seat and/or a table in there.

I could be talking out my ass as usual, but I think they usually use something like 1/8" chipboard attached to the interior framing to back up the trim. I'm sure you'll be wanting to get any interior rust out of there first, of course.
>>
Start by wire brushing the rust, then coating with anti-rust paint or primer.

Then I'd like the interior with plywood or MDF. Doesn't need to be thick, 10mm for the floors, 4mm for the sides.

If you varnish with polyurethane and caulk the corners of the new floor before fixing the carpet, you can then use a pressure washer to wash the interior.

How do you fat-lipped, wide-nosed individuals go about accumulating your toolset? Personally, I monitor the big box companies for their "deal of the day" to see when thing go %50 off and nab it.

I buy them at thrift stores and garage sales, or ill wait until I can afford nice and buy on ebay/amazon

I only impulse buy certain things at big box stores. If I absolutely need a tool now and I somehow dont have it already, ill buy it at the big box stores

Estate sales and craigslist. Takes a while for good stuff to pop up and when it does you have to haul ass to get it bUT it's the cheapest way to get tools

You should add a big magnet so the phone doesn't fall off

What's the best shed foundation to build? How do i keep the floor from rotting? The chipboard is pressure treated but I have the time to seal both sides. Im looking to buy this precut shed and would need to paint and shingle, any tips or recommendation?

I can solder, I can mechanic, but i'm not that adept with woodwork. I recently bought a house so im getting more experience with it htough.

Thanks in advance.

How much would it cost (factoring in I do not have tools or any proper workshop/garage, and likely will not be living on the land I will be building on) and how difficult would it be to build something like these:

The last one is a video from a shed at Home Depot (but it's priced at only $12k). I see in the comments some stuff about it not being able to pass inspection/codes for a livable structure?
What do I need to know about those? Could I alter the shed in some way to make it acceptable, without raising costs too much?

Get a supplies list, price them out, add it up. That is the cost. Why can't we tell you that? Because we don't know what shit costs where you live.

>how difficult would it be to build something like these
For someone with the skins? It would not be hard. For someone with no skills? It would be very hard.

>What do I need to know about those?
Man, if only there was some sort of book that had the codes in it that you could read...

>Could I alter the shed in some way to make it acceptable
Sure.

Nope.

This needs to be redone- a bingo card generally works with random numbers, but since this has phrases or directions an OP could be going with their thread, some of them don't work well with each other.

For example, free energy! + "what should I buy" is incongruous, along with 110/220 volt. I'll rework this board for you guys.
>>
>>1230995
Honestly, I made it almost 3 years ago and purposely made is near impossible to score a bingo. Trolling while trolling, if you will. That said, I have seen people do it twice when they weren't trying to do it intentionally.

A few of the squares are a lot rarer these days, also. We don't see people doing hydroponics, crying about 110/220 volts, or come here to try to develop a patent much anymore. Even the 3D printing, Arduino, and free energy crowd has really thinned out compared to then. It could use a 2.0.

Still got some stupid fuckwits on here trying to fix their headphones or 'upcycle' their garbage all the time though.

Hi /diy/, I've got the table pictured below. The two redwood pieces screw into the black piece which is the middle and the base. The table is fairly old, and the screw holes have hollowed out badly over the years. While the table stands up, the sides sag tremendously and there are some worrying gaps. It doesn't look like screwing new holes in the center piece is feasible. The best solution I can think of is leaving the current screws in place and placing something below the two ends to prop them up. Any suggestions what I should use /diy/? I'd prefer not to drill extra holes, and I'd prefer not to scratch up the wood on the bottom of the table.

I can't exactly tell from the picture, bbut it *looks* like your pedestal section is made out of particle board. Is that where the worn out screw holes are? Assuming the answer is "yes", then best bet is to build a new middle section out something that's not crappy like press-board.

Another option is to attempt a repair to the screw holes by adding material. Wood toothpicks and wood-glue is pretty effective.
>>
>>1230956
The pedestal is particle board and didn't originally come with the table, but had been added to the table before I inherited it. Unfortunately, the hollowed out holes are in the redwood.
>>
You've posted this dumb shit before, go look at the archive for all the answers we gave last time

I need to cut a 10mm thick, 2 something meters by 1,50m piece of naval plywood into a smaller rectangle for a table top. I have only a cross cut saw with high TPI and a big rip saw. Has someone attempted something similar? I don't have power tools and I don't want to invest in a circular saw just for this project.

you don't want to invest 50$ for the most useful tool you could ever want for construction? go away child

I live in a apartment, will probably use it only for a table, will move out in 3 years to some other country. And due to economic fuckups here it costs more like 150 $
>>
>>1230900
>>1230897
also a circular saw is 1/2 the value of a table. A table top, screws, drill heads, legs will probably be the same price. And buying a table kind ruins the point.

Basically this door was set up about 5-6 years ago and the plastic cover was not removed. As a result (pic related) the plastic has dried out and cracked. Some spots are still sticking to the door. Is there any kind of solution i could use to dissolve the said plastic cover without damaging the door and remove it?

>>
Get a plastic scraper.

Try any of these. WD40, household degreaser, automotive degreaser, steamer.

If those fail, try White/Mineral Spirits or Kerosene which may damage the lacquer underneath but probably won't.

If those fail, try Acetone.
>>
>>1230707
If acetone fails, sand down the whole surface and put on another layer of varnish.
>>
>>1230726

I want to mod this water distiller so that i could control the heating with arduino. I want to be able to do this so that i could still alcohol with this.

Could you explain me this circuit to me?

One of the sockets connects to the wall and other one provides power external fan on top of the cooler unit.

Red thing is led and below is some kind of reset switch

theres nothing to explain really

the heater and led is in series with the thermal switch and reset
the fan is in parallel with everything

you will need a relay and a thermistor or thermocouple for the arduino

>you will need a relay and a thermistor or thermocouple for the arduino

if the temperature is less than 150 C it might be simpler to use LM35 (or LM34 for F).

http://www.instructables.com/id/LM35-Temperature-Sensor/

It is simple to interface and provides 10mv/degree (or something really simple like that) so an ADC can easily read the temperature

>what type of mask I should use when applying spray paint

what type of paint? if it is water based you can wear a good paper mask. if it is solvent based you need ventilation and a respirator that has charcoal to absorb the fumes, unless you are spraying a small amount in which case you might not need any protection. however, if you spray a small amount regularly you should use protection.

Hey /diy/,

Quick question....

I am hard wiring my radar detector so I can mount it in the exact place I want it and not have a wire hanging from the windshield.

What gauge wiring should I use to do this?

Also what is the suggested method for fusing wires together seamlessly?

I am not an electrician and have never used a soldering iron, I DO know how to solder...But only with a mini torch and on precious metals only (I'm a jeweler).

Any suggestions?

>>
>>1230451
Found out how much voltage and amperage the device requires. Google the wire gauge for that amount.

The lineman's splice and some heat shrink tubing are the best you are going to get.
>>
>>1230451
What gauge depends on the current drawn. Cross sectional are should be at least as much as the existing wire as a guide, extremely long runs might need slightly larger but probably it'll be fine.
In a car crimps are king. Soldering is great as an electrical connection but not ideal as a mechanical connection.
I solder every day but I wouldn't want to be upside down in a footwell with one and all flux spitting in my eye.
>>
>>1230458
Yea, I know I need to learn to solder with an iron but I don't want be still in the learners phase soldering next to my leather seats and carpet lol.

What car of crimps?

Should 10ft require a higher gauge wire?

I'm still trying to find online how many amps my radar detector pulls....
