http://micro.sci-toys.com/grinding is roughly how you do it.

Note that China will sell you one for $10 with free shipping, and that link calls for more than $10 worth of sandpaper alone. Making your own is only efficient if you can make them for your whole class, or if you already have access to a full set of glassblowing and polishing tools.

Hey folks. Little bit of a story. I need some help and discussion on 3d printers. I received in the mail a nickel iron battery. A single 10 AH cell. Going to do a tear down, take pics etc for a yahoo builder group. I want to build them at home. I've ran into a few design hurdles. The chemistry is easy enough to understand. The mechanics of the cell can be a problem. Mostly interested in making clear corrosive resistant plastic battery jars, lids etc and if possible, fine steel plate. 1/32 of an inch plate. I need ultra fine holes and lots of them but a drill that fine would wear out real quick. Is that possible with current printers? I see some under 200 dollars and yes I know those are cheap junk and they make small parts. The more I research this the more it looks like something that would be fun to do and maybe might make a tight buck or two and work from home. Thoughts?

A bump and bedtime. Also looking into laser cutting/drilling.
I found a company that will sell me the battery cases and jars etc but I was just wandering if it was possible to DIY plastic at home. Didn't see much that could handle polypropylene but i think ABS is very resistant to strong bases like the potassium hydroxide int he electrolyte.

Go to the 3dpg thread. Also, shapeways offers nylon which should be chemically resistant but Idk for your purposes

I don't know if this is the correct board to post this, sorry if it isn't.
My washing machine broke and flooded my wooden floor. I don't know how much time the floor was under water (a couple of hours?). While I managed to dry the floor, the space between each wooden plank is still humid, and whatever is in that space them is coming out (see pic).

Is there anything I can do to decrease the chances of the floor to swell? How worried should I be about the black thing in the pic? Is my floor doomed? Wooden floors are expensive as fuck and I don't have the money.

Been looking at these tshirt guns. Now, I'm interested in working principle, these ones seem to shoot gas before the t-shirt and suck the tshirt from the barrel behind?
Do any of you have any experience with these? What might be some high throughput solenoid valves to be used with co2? Or maybe some other ingenious devices?

> these ones seem to shoot gas before the t-shirt and suck the tshirt from the barrel behind?
that sounds inefficient compared to shooting the gas behind the shirt. Most single shot t-shirt cannons just do that, usually feeding from a tank and through a simple pop valve that's released by the sear of the trigger group, like a PCP air gun.

Are you sure that's not some kind of gas line to re-cock the gun or turn the cylinder or something?

anyway look into PCP airguns, they're probably pretty similar to what you want in design and construction, you just have to scale it up.
>>
I helped build one in high school. Its just compressed air. Make sure the shirt is rolled tight and fills the tube well in order to help build up back-pressure. Its been a long time so i dont remember exactly how much psi we built up, but we only used like a 5 gallon tank to discharge into the tube, but we had a seperate storage for the compressor so we could fire rapidly.

A shot in the dark, but does anyone here have experience with making enamel pins?
I can electro-etch the metal part but I just can't find where to buy the enamel.
So far I found out there is soft "enamel" which requires no firing, fake hard enamel and genuine hard enamel.
I'll be thankful for any info, links, etc, really couldn't find any info..

XOXO anon

Hello /diy/, I have a problem I need to solve asap. I live in house with 4 neighbors, one of them keep's blasting his TV and radio non stop - day and night. By day it's no problem, we all agreed that up till 22:00 anyone can blast his music how loud he wants, the problem is that he keeps it up at night as well. There is no way reasoning with him. Considering that he is over 60 years old, beating the shit out of him would be pathetic.

Therefore I would need to build a device that can jam his signal at night. I found only one project that would fit my purpose (pic related), however I would prefer device that would run over all frequencies, let's say instead of knob that I adjust to find right frequency I could use arduino to loop from lowest to highest non stop. If possible.

First question is : is your nieghboor watching TV through Air(analog or digital), cable, Satellite or DSL ?

Different signal niggering strategies applies.

Air/cable :
Get an old VHS VCR and a gay porn tape, make sure VCR is prehistoric enough to out it's signal through a UHF/RF-modulator (aka antenna cable).
Most modulators are adjustable, so plug the VCR with the gay porn playing in it, and adjust the modulator until it jams the actual TV program you're watching.

Two options :
1*/ you're on DTV and your TV is not smart enough to detect a good ol' analog signal : DTV is just jammed, all the multiplex is unwatchable.
2*/ you're on analog or your TV is fucking smart to auto-switch on analog : gay porn ensues xD

Cable :
Same as before, but frequency range differ from "air" TV : build a RF-modulator on the appropriate range (as it's for a jammer a crappy one with a *metric* shitton of harmonics would be ok)

Sat : kick the dish, those old ladies have to be aimed toward the Sat with a 1° precision and are a pain in the ass to readjust, old man will be pissed off until the sat guy come to deal with the dish.

DSL :
You need to corrupt the baseband 4kHz-2Mhz, so his DSL datarate goes sufficely poor to be incompatible with TV carrying.
Member the composite out of the VCR ? it outputs an 1Mhz-ish signal : get a *matching transformer* to adapt 75R TV-impedance to 125R phone-impedance or use a fucking 24V/240V (or 12V/110V if you live on the retarded side) transformer, signal will be distorded as fuck but circa 4-6V of amplitude which will be fairly enough to jam the whole DSL band, considering added harmonics and attenuation at such frequency because of the unsuitable type of transfo.
>Hardest part is to wiretap the shit on old man's phone line : if it's not possible, a 10-22nF 400V non-polarised capacitor plugged in parallel on the line will nigger DSL-spectrum enough to forbid TV... Try it at home to figure the best capacitor value to plug.

Have fun !

Hello /diy/, recently I acquired a property, most of the lakes weren`t being used and are crowded with Aquatic weed, some of it had crystalline water and are full of fish.
Does any anon have experience with Aquatic Weed Control and have some tips in regards to it, I don`t want to toss herbicide in the river or anything of the sort, if there was a way to manually remove it I would appreciate it.
I`ve seen some websites on the matter like:
But any anon knows of a better/simple way of doing it and keeping the rivers clean, for swiming and fishing?

Ducks do a great job. For algae use a bale of straw.
>>
>>1231284
I have some 50 ducks but they stay at a pond nearby the house, the ponds I`m willing to clean 1 and a half klicks away from the house.
I`m not willing to use chemicals because some of the water gets pumped back home by a water mill system, not willing to turn that off and apply it either because this particular water flows into several smaller ones.
Reason why I wanted to try some aerator or remove it manually.
But thanks, much obliged.
Even if managed to put some ducks there they would soil the water that goes back home.
>>
>>1231284
But if you mean putting up a bale of straw and hooking it into the tractor and then dragging it on the water, I can see that happening.

>Just plug it in and go?

for that particular one you also need sticks. a mask and gloves come in handy as well.

also that one has a 50 amp plug which is not commonly found except behind a stove or dryer.
>>
yes provided say your common houseplug is 10 amps, and the welder has a 10 amp plug

if not and the welder is a 15amp plug then you can either get a 15 amp outlet done for your garage, or get a 15 to 10 amp cable. also there's three-phase welders which you probably wouldn't be able to run in your house
>>
Thanks all. That was quick!

hi /diy/
since /g/ is not for tech support you are the only ones i can ask for help

since watching this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3fnsGHe8eE) i have been working on a media PC for myself and i have a huge problem

i have this rekt laptop from my friend that i want to use (only a mobo left nothing else was useful) i have found pins that i need to use as power button and if i short them mobo actually tries to start up
>fan spins up
>hdd rattles into life
>external keyboard lights up
>no signal into external monitor
any idea what can i get external monitor working on this without using laptop screen / windows ? (pic related - mobo im working with "la-9631p")
14 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Possible that the external screen is disabled. There would be a key combo on the keyboard that came with it if you still have it. Also if Windows is installed you can do Windows + P to enable it as well
>>
i was thinking about is but since i dont have a working windows on this machine nor can i see if anything is wrong since i have no working screen i need a solution that i can apply while mobo posting or something like that

i have actually found out that HP notebooks just need the lid closed to use external monitor as a default one but since i dont have a lid to begin with i cant try out if this lenovo board has the same feature
>>
The gpu unit is probably fucked. Is it a dedicated gpu or integrated? If its integrated, the controller is probably fucked depending how old it is, you could probably switch to integrated graphics but idk

>Move into new house

>Realize my sheds floor boards are rotten because the guy who built it never really suspended in from the earth

I've never done foundation work.

I want to build a decent shed. Just how much of a pain in the balls would it be to do the foundation for a shed that is maybe the size of a one car garage?

Is it possible to sort of separate a shed from it's base and put foundation under it, or should I just say fuck it and demolish it? It's a shame because everything else is good, but it's a "handyman" built shed. Not sure what kind of fuckery I'll find. Basically it's a normal big shed, but he added a "L" shaped extension shed around the back corner.

But eventually my foots going to go through the floor while I'm sawing or something and I'm going to die.

Not as bad as pic related, but maybe a year or two from that point.

Jack it up off the ground and put piers under it as needed. If the entire floor is shot you will need to replace it.
>>
>level the earth
>Put down cheapo paving slabs
>>
>>1231110
>>1231268
Both.
untreated luber won't last if it somes into contact with the earth.
You need to jack it up, determine if you can save it, and the offset it from the ground.
Pavers, Pre made offsets, treated lumber.

You have so much dry rot there, it's hard to tell if it's worth the effort. Depends on your budget and needs.
