If you seal it with pond armor then yes.
Anyone here ever refinish or restore old tools? I found this ax head in a burn pile of ours a few years ago and cleaned it up a little bit. Any y'all do anything similar?
>>1231071
amazing work. care to share any secrets as to how you did it?
I dont see how "refinishing" old tools is thread worthy. Not really that interesting.
>>1231071
No. If any of my tools get damaged or worn I throw them away.
It's nice having money.
I want a tv table with wheels for my 27" CRT but theres nothing in the market. Do you have a example design to start mine with?
>>1231027
go to a thrift store and look at old tv tables
or just buy one and put on 4 casters
>>1231027
What tools you have for woodwork?
>>1231027
do you want many features, or just a stand?
Some MDF will get you a decent box with minimal tools. add some HF castors for 20 bucks and you have something functional.
refer to youtube for plans if you want anything intricate
i want to build a lateral g-force sensor that can play the "this miata's drifting!" soundbyte from this video when it detects a certain amount of lateral gs

>not making it narrate the weight of the antifa landnarwal you just ran over
get your shit together.
>>1230998
That is an absolutely dreadful way to detect drifting but if you insist you can get a shit thing called an arduino and pay.10x the value for a 3dof imu (degrees of freedom, inertia measuring unit) because it had some pins soldered to it from adafruit (company for queer-o-sexuals named after a syphilitic lunatic widely miscredited as the first computer programmer for no other reason than she was a woman) or sparkfun (for manchildren that never wandered from the confines of the instruction book when playing with Lego)
You will find instructions on how to put it together and run software someone has already written but no information about how any of it works out what it does so you don't have to worry about actually improving yourself or growing as a person or gaining any skills.
A freely turning potentiometer with a weighted knob.
I now have a 74 Johnson 6hp outboard motor. It hasn't ran in 10 years and I don't really know why. What first?
>Currently getting new sparkplugs
>Needs a gas tank, only has 2' fuel line.
>Assuming I need to clean the carb but I have no idea how.
Never been a huge engine guy, but I want to learn with this. Can I hook up the line to a regular gas can? Is there anything I should test or replace? What are my steps?

YouTube.
Also, check wires for cracks in the insulation, same with anything rubber or rubber-like, replace any and all filters, and change any an all fluids. Once you get plugs, check for spark.

vise grips.
goddamn anon buy some tools or throw the motor away because it will be garbage when you finish "fixing" it.
How would you design a mechanical display that would show numbers with separate digits and wraps around at some point? I think some sort of reset mechanism for the digits is needed, but I don't know what that would be. I found some hints that heart shaped cams might be used, but to me at least it is not really obvious how you'd reliably actuate those etc.
Pic related, example of the sort effect I'm looking for; wrapping from 23->0. I think the clock pictured is electronically driven, and I'm hoping to find a mechanical solution instead.
>>1230828
it's called flip clock and they have been around since the 50's or 60's.
>>1230837
Yes, flipclocks and variations of thereof have been around forever. But that is beyond the point; practically all (mechanical) flipclocks etc have single display for hours instead of separate ones and tens. That separate digit thing is what I'm specifically interested in, not so much of the display elements themselves.
I'm not sure I understand your problem.
You want a flip clock? And you want a solution so that despite one of them only having 0, 1, 2 and the other 0-9, they stay "in synch". Is that correct?
How do I un-fuck this up /diy/, never had this happen
go find some broken boards and practice for 10 minutes or more

remove the solder blobs and clean it with some alcohol. what did you do to the tracks on the right?
Hi /diy/ you guys are the only people i can ask for help with this.
I want to, if possible, sow on or do something to my jacket to that my hammer has a holster on the inside.
Pic related is the inside material of my jacket, i don't know the name of it sadly.
I don't have alot of money to spend on this, so i can't buy a sowing machine if that is necessary or anything.
Thanks for the help.

BLM/ANTIFA pls go
>>1230717
How are you so dumb that you're that fucking obvious? You're either a criminal or an antifa faggot. Either way get the fuck outta here.
>>1230717
Are you fucking serious? Do you realise that once you have a holster for it, it makes it impossible for you to deny that you were concealing it with the intent to use it as a weapon?
Either just carry an actual, legal, self defence weapon or use a bike lock like that professor of faggotry that got arrested for fucking up that protestor.
Apparently bread crumbs start fires if you toast them with the toaster on its side. I have no diy knowledge can these be modded to be toaster ovens ?
>>1230706
Of course. Although, just clean your toaster often and that won't happen.
>>1230706
you know the cheapest toaster oven probably costs as much as a mid-quality toaster. and its designed to be a toaster oven. a toaster is just a toaster, it cant cook food like you would expect from a actual toaster oven....
Hi /diy
Could you please give me a link to download foundry Miniatures Painting & Modelling Guide book? i am broke AF but i want to read about this at least.
Thank you!

I'm pretty sure they could help you with this.

So, I'm thinking of doing some DIY Bookbinding because I've done the math and I think I can do it cheaper than Lulu. Been doing some reading on the subject.
Is there a reason that you don't see people doing Side-Stitched Casebound books, and it always seems to be one or the other? The fact that you don't need Folios and such, and can just use single sheets of regular paper and still make a full-sized book seems really appealing to me from a DIY perspective.
Secondly, any suggestions on materials for the case for case binding? I'd be particularly interested in a plastic or something more durable than the usual cardboard, that won't get dinged up as easily.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBc0gFyFGYY&t=31s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9P07WAbYHs
I too want get into bookbinding, but before that I need to
>Learn how to work with leather
>Find an efficient way of printing my own content (mostly edited .pdf's) in the correct order so once I fold, layer and group the small booklets that make up the book they are all in order
>Step Up my A E S T H E T I C S. If I am going to spend that much time with something I might as well make it good-looking
>and can just use single sheets of regular paper
I would advice to invest in something better than common-printing paper. What exactly do you want to do? A Sketch book? Do you want to print out an entire books and bind it yourself?
>I'd be particularly interested in a plastic or something more durable than the usual cardboard
Cardboard is fine. There is also special Book-binding cardboard, it is dense, hard but a lot more thin than cardboard

I want to print out a shitton of out of print and PDF only RPG books for my shelf and gaming group, as well as my own homebrew stuff.
The important thing about printer paper, is not the quality of paper (I'll probably buy some semigloss stuff) but the ability to print it on 8.5x11 sheets, from my consumer grade laser printer. I don't want to have to invest in an expensive printer that can handle 11x17s.
The fact that I don't have to go through the hassle of editing the PDFs to print on folios like you described is a bonus, as is not needing my books to be a multiple of 4 in pagecount.
Those are the reason I'm favoring side-stitched single sheets.
>Cardboard is fine.
Some of my purchased RPG book have had the cover start to peel off where they got dinged on something, and the cardboard underneath doesn't hold up so well once the protective cover is off. Which is why I really would prefer some kind of thin black plastic.
>>1230954
>I don't want to have to invest in an expensive printer that can handle 11x17s
You have three options
1. Rob a bank and get another printer
2. Aquire 8.5*11 glossy paper (Or make your own)
3. Get someone else to print it for you professionally in whatever paper you want
>I don't have to go through the hassle of editing the PDFs to print on folios
In that case those prints must be very small. So using leather or other expensive materials is not justified (unlike me, where I will print substantial books or make anthologies of smaller ones. So I will also get into leather)
>cover start to peel off where they got dinged on something
Still, you should simply be careful with books, and stick them very well. Even like that, you can use metal or plastic corners to make it look good, hold the folds of paper and protect it from falls
What about synthetic leather and Binding cardboard? That cardboard is hard af, and the Leather can't peel off that easily. Is is also cheaper than regular leather
I have a couple of high end android phones from 2014 or so, that I'm not using anymore.
what can you do with android phones to repurpose them for something else? they got very good cameras, networking abilities and all kinds of sensors.
what would you do if you have extra android hardware lying around?
>>1230322
use the bluetooth or wifi to communicate with a microcontroller. display data, plots, menus, whatever.
>>1230327
so just as an external tiny screen? for what purpose? what about all the other hardware inside there?
>>1230322
i use them for reading pdfs, streaming radio, as a flashlight around the house

what sewing machine should i buy? what should I look for in a sewing machine?
pic unrelated
>>1229993
Straight stitch? A Singer 301 or before. Really, anything Singer from the mid 50's or before is bulletproof. Singer 404 is also good but they are rare as hell.
Zig-Zag? Singer 401 and 403 are the best zig zag machines they ever made. The 500/503 were also good but the previous series was the peak. 600 is okay. Avoid anything Touch & Sew or later.
>>1230004
i think just straight stitch. i just need to be able to do alterations. are 60 year old sewing machines really reliable? does buying used make sense?
>>1230044
Yeah. Sewing machines are a mess of horrible clockwork but 99% of them in existence are the same design of Singer that's existed for a century so parts and labor are cheap. Any fabric store will usually also service machines, if you don't want to do it yourself (which is understandable since they're mostly non-adjustable steel parts that either work or don't)
