Anons working in office or having similar non-manual jobs, what do you usually snack on at work?
For me it is just sweets and nuts, planning to change it though.
Discuss and dump ideas.
I work in an office and here's what I snack on:
1. Tootsie roll pops. Always keep a few with me
2. Hard candies, particularly from the asian market. Much more variety, texture, and flavor than you can find elsewhere
3. I usually have cashew or a banana 1-2 hours before the end of the day, so I'm not cranky while I drive home in traffic.

Work in corporate office, have a desk drawer and a membership to Sam's Club.
First 3 months I got the giant tub of animal crackers, chocolate covered raisins, multi pack nutrigrain bars, big tex cinnamon rolls, and Lance variety cracker packs.
Then I recently got trail mix, cookies individually wrapped, nature valley almond granola bars. All around $40 for a few months
I'm looking to try some mead. To those of you who have, what brand do you like, where do you get it, and is it worth it?
>>8063100
i've only ever tried Moniack and Lyme Bay, seem to be the only popular ones in the UK. I like both, very few places seem to stock it, some specialist wine places or Amazon are my go to. It's reasonably worth it, i wouldn't drink it regularly but its really nice once in a while
If you like honey and a sweeter wine then you'll love mead
What country are you from?
I know of a few decent English makers
>Philips Airfryer
>Sriracha mayo
Has Gordon finally hit rock bottom? This is worse than Marco Pierre 'stock pot' White.

What does /ck/ think of head cheese?
I don't know

great foodm it goes really well with farm bread
Never had the chance to try it, but it always looks fine.
Hey /ck/, I've fallen on hard times and need to save money, but owing to some minor digestion problems I still need to eat relatively healthy. What ingredients can I buy in bulk that can be reused in the most amount of recipes?
Ex: stock/broth, spices, rice, beans, etc.
Basically, I'm thinking about when Indians go shopping, they buy rice and curry and green leafy vegetables in bulk, the Chinese buy rice and green beans and sesame oil in bulk, they spend very little time and money at the store and have enough food to last the whole week or couple weeks. This is what I'd like to do as well.
I have no allergies, so throw out any ideas you got. Recipe titles would be helpful as well, if you have a specific item or items that you know can be paired with many different things.
Thank you all very much.

I've been baking bread for a while but every time I try to lean to cooking I get the feeling that it's much more expensive. Am I doing something wrong or cooking as hobby is expensive?
>>8062654
Is expensive if you buy stuff in the supermarket
Depends on what you're cooking but it shouldn't be that expensive. Compared to eating out, you should be saving money. What are you buying that's expensive? Shop around and you should figure things out.
How cheap is stove gas in USA?
>want to bake anything
>takes only 1 hour
>want to cook
>first ingredient is broth
>this alone takes at least 4 hours
even if I buy my ingredients at farmers market in bulk, I still need to pay delivery and keep running a refrigeration system to store everything.
On the other hand to bake anything you only need flour, sugar, salt and some fat. Stay away from chocolate and you'll be fine.
I'm on a diet but I'm craving potato chips. What are some low calorie, salty snacks that can replace potato chips?
idk baked potato chips? a bag of baked lays is like 110 calories, but white cheddar popcorn is good too
>>8062639
pickles
banchan
sauerkraut, etc
Any sort of pickled vegetable but it won't replace the texture.
dom draper always ordered tomato juice. where did that wonderful habit disappear? why aren't men drinking tomato juice anymore? what happened?
because it sucks

How the fuck do I deal with my generalised anxiety disorder surrounding food?
I am completely obsessed with food.
All I think about is food. 24/7 everything I do revolves around food.
When I am eating I think about what I will eat next
When I am working I think about lunch
When I go to bed I think about breakfast.
Every aspect of my life is an obsession with food. I like to make food even thought I am no good at it. For example in the last 4 hours, I have made
1. A grilled cheese sandwich
2. A pot of tomato soup
3. some cookies
I cook maybe 10 recipes on days off and 5 recipes otherwise, and that is food I just throw away and made for the sake of touching and feeling food in my hands. I am not obese. I am 110lbs and 6'3 and count every calorie that goes inside of my body. When I make food I am careful not to lick my fingers to avoid the extra calories. I have obsessive hobbies and habits that all revolve around food. For example I go to the supermarket and bring a notepad then go to the deli meats and draw possible sandwich constructions from the different meats on show. I try to give each slice of a meat a space in a 5 layer sandwich and if I fail I get annoyed with myself for failing food. I walk around budget supermarkets and feel the packets of skittles and m&m's to try and grab any that have fallen out of opened packages. Not for eating but I just like the hunt for food. I don't think i have an eating disorder because I get my nutrition. But I am only happy when I am eating and I am only eating if I feel I have earned it, by doing enough food related stuff during the day. For example yesterday I had a long work day so wasn't able to get to the vending machine to write down the possible candy mixtures people in the office had been eating based on the missing candy from the machine so I didn't have dinner, I just watched some cooking videos and whisked some eggs until sleep time.
HELP ME. FUCK.

You're not overweight so it's surprising that you feel that way about food. You could easily be overweight, try foraging for food, if food itself is your obsession. What did our ancestors' eat, because it's growing out there in the wild, for you to find if only you'll venture into the wilderness!
>>8062581
I already do this.
I go foraging for berries, mushrooms, nuts, crops etc and I carry a battery toaster to make a sandwich from the ingredients. I don't usually eat it and I have been threatened with arrest after stealing cheese from a private farm. But the whole time I could only think of food. My hands TWITCH if I am not touching food. I have to sprinkle semolina on my keyboard to be able to type. its hard to do without being seen at work.
since I started this thread I made 3 sandwiches
wake me up
Hello guys!
Any idea why does my f***ing bread cook unevenly? On the top its quite dark while on the bottom and sides it is pale. Ive done the cooking in oven (250C) for 30 minutes, with some water boiling on the bottom to create steam, and using a bread casserole. I think the dough is fine and I am doing something wrong with oven.. I did oil the bread before oven with cold water.
What material bread pan are you using? That can affect the time and even-ness of a bake
>>8062480
take it out of the bread pan when there 10 min left
>>8062484
Its quite stiff glass, also I am not sure if the flour is right.
What kind of pan should I use and if anyone can recommend flours for frenchbread kind of breads I would really appriciate.
cheers

Why not just name it British food thread?
Who /smoke/ here? Would like some advice on modifying this bullet.
First time using this thing, got it at a yard sale for $5. They don't have a great reputation amongst the online BBQ community and I'm kind of seeing why. Requires a lot of tinkering to maintain and works against itself constantly.
Have two pork shoulders in there, been in there two and a half hours and I just added a third chimney of charcoal.
Going to make some modifications before using it again. Going to add a damper to the lid and a fire grate to the charcoal pan, probably insulate the thermometer and door for better control with the damper.
I've been considering building a smoker from wood and brick, with that old fashioned style with the fire pit in a hole woth the smoke piped in. You know what I mean? I've never smoked before though, so I'm not sure I wanna make the investment.
>>8062452
that sounds sick, i do know what you mean. I ultimately want to get a kamado style smoker (green egg, kamado joe, etc) or maybe just an offset smoker like a char broil, but just want to try a few smokes before making that kind of investment.
I'm brand new at this so I shouldn't be handing out information, but check Craigslist or whatever, see if you can find one of these Char Broil/Brinkmann bullet smokers. You can probably pick one up for like $50, another $30 or so for a few bags of charcoal and some wood, $10 for a chimney, and you're ready to roll. Less if you already have a charcoal grill
>>8062444
Best mod will be a PID temperature controller.
I can not stress how much better you smoking will be through consistent temperature regulation.
It is literally set and forget too. Maybe check the charcoal level every 3-4 hours, but that's it.
All you need are a few cheap electrical parts off eBay.
Probably run you $40 max
Less if you already have parts at home you can re purpose.
Heres some inspiration

I need low calorie foods
bonus points if it is not a vegetable
celery
carrots
water
asparagus
broccoli
brussel sprouts
grapefruit
mushrooms
tomatoes
zucchini
lean meat like chicken breast or fish fillets
by ruling out vegetables there isn't much to pick from that low calorie because dairy meats and grains are all high in fat, protein or carb
You are best off diluting good food with vegetables ex. cut up meat and put in a salad or make beef stew with lots of carrots, turnip, cabbage and stuff like that
>>8062412
>bonus points if it is not a vegetable
Kill yourself, manchild
Can anyone help me understand how to make gravy from meat drippings?
I feel like this should be something super basic, but I'm not a practiced cook.
I want to do it with bacon or beef grease, if that matters.
Cook some flour in the oil until its dark brown ....add water....done
You can also add milk for a richer gravy.
Flour is plebe tier. Use corn starch if you have it on hand; it won't dilute the flavor as much as flour and is rather neutral tasting.
