Has anyone ever distilled alcohol before? I went to a gin festival yesterday and they were selling copper stills similar to this one.

I think the idea is you put ethanol and botanicals in the chamber and heat. What you get is 80-90% alcohol so you need to further dilute with distilled water.

How do I know which ethanol to buy so I don't kill myself? Is grain alcohol the same thing? How do I measure how strong it is?

I don't want to go blind. Thanks.

Also what's the difference in flavour between vapour infused and steeped? Some of the stills have a little basket to hold your botanicals so the vapours pass through them. Steeped is where you just through all the ingredients in a pot.

Hello /ck/ I am entertaining none other than... my parents today!

They're coming down for my birthday and I wanted to cook a nice meal for them and 3 others

So I have 12 hours to plan a 3-course meal that is both delicious and is gluten free (sister is celiac)

I only have a skillet and a pot so this is going to be difficult (since steaks would be much easier to make and probably preferred for me).

I was definitely thinking a key lime pie would be good as a desert but I have no idea what people would normally like to eat. I was thinking of making a pizza though. Any ideas mates?

I would recommend RO (if your water is fluoridated, otherwise just don't bother).

You need to replace the filter once in a while. I have one at work it tastes quite nice.

The instructions suck, in order to activate it keep the top filter button pressed and the bar will fill up to whatever % you want.
If you repeatedly press it nothing happens not even when the screen lights up cause it will turn off again, it has to stay on.

What can I make without significantly sacrificing quality without an electric mixer? Until I save enough for a lifting KitchenAid, I don't want to waste money on a handheld that will just take up space. Sweet or savoury snacks, bake or no-bake.

I've only tried Cavendish and Reds. I like reds a lot, I find them to be sweeter and creamier than Cavendish. But they're 3x the cost, and hard to find around here, unfortunately.

I wish I could try Blue Javas. I know some of you posters are from Hawaii. Please tell me about them.

I go to Winco and get that 8 piece chicken for like 5 bucks like 3x a week. They know me pretty well there, not on a first name basis but I basically know who works what days.

I go to Sonic 5x a week for the happy hour since it's right next to my house and we have no grocery stores within 5 miles, it's the quickest way to get a drink

I sometimes get a little anxiety, for example, going to Winco wonder if these people think I'm a fat ass. I'm not fat, more on the skelly side, but rn I'm getting my stove fixed and can't cook

If it says "fully cooked" then it's fully cooked. Just take out one piece at a time. Letting it thaw to room temp and then eating it hours later might be an issue, but eating it right out of the ice box should be fine.

tomorrow i'm gonna get high and make some beef stir fry with friends

usually i just heat sesame oil in the wok and then put the beef in first after coating it with salt pepper and sesame seeds. is this the best way to prepare it? surely there's something i can do the beef to make it better
