Would you put down your cat if it kept shitting and pissing on the floor of your house?

Had this problem with one of my cats. It's literally one of the easiest things to solve
>get more litterboxes and put them in places the cat goes to a lot
>give it things to climb on and toys so it feels more confident
>if it doesn't work, take it to the vet

Any of you guys play Abzu, one of my favorite games ever

Most beautiful game i've ever played, like having a virtual open water aquarium.

I loved it, loved seeing every single random species show up. The second to last area blew my mind, did not expect that shit.

Any vets around? My dog has this red bump on her front paw. It's quite hard but covered by skin and not leaking.

Wanted to know if it's something I should take her to the vet over.

looks like an infection or cancer take it to a vet
>>
>>2329513
It's most likely a fox tail caught in there, and yes, you will have to take the dog to the vet because by the time you notice the fox tail, it's already so far up the skin that the vet usually has to use long prongs to pull it out and make sure all the pieces are out so it doesn't cause a horrible infection. If that is what it is, it will not get better on its own because it will just keep working it's way up.

Good news is, this is only about a $50 dollar visit for the procedure and their time.

It is a benign cyst btw.

She said they could remove it next time she was under anaesthetic for any reason otherwise it might naturally go away or we can remove it if it gets too big.

So I am probably going to be moving for school. I'll be going from a huge network of friends and family to basically nothing so I'm looking at getting a pet bird for company. Probably a cockatiel.

I will probably be bouncing back home for every winter break and probably all summer so obviously this is an issue. I know birds can be crazy fragile, like, I heard that a stiff cold breeze can kill them so does anyone know how transportable birds are? Can I safely bring them on a plane?

Alternately, if i find a roommate who is crazy patient and doesn't mind caring for a bird for like, months on end, will that kind of periodic absence mess with a birds psychology and give it weird abandonment issues or something? I know they are very social.

Also, general bird advice would be good if you guys have any.

>birds on a plane

Christ and I thought 4 hours of a screaming kid was the worst that could happen.

Don't get a bird. They are too high maintenance for the kind of lifestyle you'll be having, not to mention being gone all day for class and they are very needy.

You always, always want a heatpad to be hooked up to a thermostat.

If you don't, don't be upset when it eventually burns the shit out of your animal or causes a fire.

I plan to trap a squirrel who's been chewing up my roof. How far away do I need to drive & release it so it won't find its way back to my neighborhood?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Just cook it
>>
I caught and released a shit ton of ground squirrels over a period of 2 months 5 miles away and not one of the little fuckers returned. They would have probably had to cross at least one highway though
>>
There have been radio-tracking studies that showed squirrels are capable of moving up to 10 miles.

Of course, by moving a squirrel that far you might as well be killing them. They're now in an unfamiliar area filled with other squirrels that will defend their territories, they don't know the best places to hide from predators, and they'll likely attempt to cross roads on their way back to your house.

Are aquaponic systems actually worth it, cost, space, and labor/maintenance-wise?
Would I be better off with a normal garden and/or greenhouse, and a pond for fish farming?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
It's worth it but you're not going to get the same fish that you would out of a pond. It really depends on your knowledge level and space and time available. Do what you've researched and know
>>
I use a much smaller system, where I have a 50 gallon aquarium with guppies. I have tomatoes growing in the filter, which I pick. I sell the guppies when they reproduce. I would agree that you should do your research.
>>
>>2329483
I would research first, but I am more interested in it for the ability to farm fish for meat, than just for the produce aspect. Guppies would be worthless to me.

>>2329472
It would be better to farm fish from a pond, year-round? This would likely be in Idaho or Montana.

How are Akitas, particularly the American variant, as pets? Temperament/behaviorally?
My family had a few when I was fairly young, but I was too young (less than 10) to really remember their behavior in detail.

I would like to have one again someday in the future, likely years from now. By then I should have land and something of a "farm" (garden, chickens, fish) and it would likely be nice to have something of a calm "guard" (see: "alert") dog.

They have aggression problems involving other dogs and strangers even when well socialized.
Many Insurance companies don't like them and will bump up your rates if you have one. Some towns/cities have banned them.

Take that as you will.
>>
>>2329408
I have heard American Akitas are actually slightly larger and more prone to stranger/animal aggression than the Japanese variety. Not to say that the Jap version isn't also prone to aggression
>>
>>2329408
This.
They also don't really get along with other dogs, especially dogs of the same sex. Have an unspayed bitch with other dogs and brace for blood.
Like shiba inus, they can be 'catlike'. This is another way of saying that the dog will probably do what it wants and when it wants.

If you're experienced in large dogs, strong enough to handle them, don't have other dogs and have experience in stubborn, aggressive breeds then go for it. If not you might want to pass unless you'll commit to professional training if you're having issues. The earlier you correct behavior issues the better.
Puppy classes are a good way to start socializing.

Is this cat too fat /an/? Or is he just a big cat?
He belongs to someone I'm unfortunate enough to live with, and he seems pretty big as far as generic tabby cats go.

He's not allowed to have a cat tower, scratching posts or toys, so the only excercise he gets is my playing with him when she's out of the house

Here's another angle
>>
Yeah he is overweight. Check out that belly hanging over the back paw pretty far out.

If hes always indoors, get some balls, long string or better yet a cheap laser pointer to make him chase around. I bet after 5 mins he'll be tired.

Scratching and jumping are as much exercise as when you roll out of bed.

Any toys in the open will immediately be thrown out, I literally have to hide toys so he can play when she's gone, that's how much of a stupid cunt she is

I am going to be writing an essay and giving a presentation on whether it is possible that approaches involving genetic modification can become socially acceptable for pest control.

Im having a hard time coming to grips with what 'socially acceptable' means. Finding information about the science and facts of genetic modification + pest control is very easy, but to think about whether it will be socially acceptable or not is beyond what i can think right now.

Genetic modification on its own is already a controversial and maybe 'socially unacceptable' thing. Will involving it in pest control change anything?

Anyone have some ideas?

>>
>>2328327
keep in mind that much of the western world opposes engineering crops for drought resistance or any other purpose even if it means feeding billions of starving brown people to do so.

"Socially acceptable" means not manipulating DNA at all. Ever. If you can't breed it, it shouldn't exist. Yes, this is neo-luddism. Yes, it will presumably destroy humanity. It doesn't matter, humanity is circling the drain already.

They should have told you when you bought it.

Also I think you may be keeping it a little too wet. Even the moisture liking species can't stand stagnant humid air.
>>
>>2328263
you might want to ask here: >>2323551

and if someone sold it to you without even mentioning the scientific name they have no clue what it is and since you're also referring to it by the common name I don't think it's gonna live very long in your care

What in the holy name of Christ is this thing? I live on the 26th floor of an apartment building. I'm not supposed to have bugs. In one and a half years I haven't had so much as a spider or fly. So why is THIS THING here? How powerful is it? Can it hurt me? Can it be killed? What do I do with it? Are there more?

Someone please help me I don't know if the glass can hold it

house centipeed

vulnerable to fire. 1d6 damage. 2HP. 1d20 GP.
>>
>>2327923
uh oh. when you find one, it means there's a breeding ground of them. of course, they don't ever all come out at once. i've only ever seen 2 at a time, but never in the same place, so i'm guessing they are solo creatures. but unless your landlord or whoever is in charge of the apartment maintenance literally tear out your floor boards and kill all their eggs, they're basically here to stay. expect to see more of them in the coming months.

they're not that bad, they eat termites, spiders, bedbugs, cockroaches, silverfish, etc.... they just ugly as fuck. never been bitten by one, but i don't think they're poisonous.
>>
House centipedes are bros. they eat all the other insects in your house. they have no interest in humans or human food. they're ugly to look at, but harmless and actually kinda helpful

They want to get rid of the concept of animals.
>>
what do you mean by getting rid of it? Liking putting animals and humans as equals?
>>
>>2327666
They are big advocates of pit bull bans, because they know it's a slippery slope to eventually ban all dogs. They back BSL in the hopes that it will eventually ban all dog. Not even meming, they state it right on their website.

They also own a ton of stock in the different meat industries.

/herp/ reptile classifieds for finding breeders of various scaled and sundry creatures

>kingsnake.com
>faunaclassifieds.com
>reptilescanada.com (Canadian breeders)
>Also check to see if there are any annual reptile shows/expos in your area as these are good places to find good animals from good breeders at partial discount

/herp/ officially official all purpose care sheet of wonder and magic

>sand a shit
>use a thermostat
>read all the caresheets
>set up your tank before you get your herp
>regulate temps & humidity levels prior to herp arrival
>do not fuck with (handle) your herp for at least 7 days after bringing it home and ideally wait until herp has eaten at least one meal (for snakes), two meals for lizards, frogs, etc.
>PVC tanks are way better for most applications and worth the extra money
>it is best to avoid chain pet stores when looking to purchase live animals as mass breeder suppliers are not especially careful about health and sound genetics... it often saves you money long term to spend a little extra up front to get a healthy animal
