I plan to trap a squirrel who's been chewing up my roof. How far away do I need to drive & release it so it won't find its way back to my neighborhood?
Just cook it
I caught and released a shit ton of ground squirrels over a period of 2 months 5 miles away and not one of the little fuckers returned. They would have probably had to cross at least one highway though
There have been radio-tracking studies that showed squirrels are capable of moving up to 10 miles.
Of course, by moving a squirrel that far you might as well be killing them. They're now in an unfamiliar area filled with other squirrels that will defend their territories, they don't know the best places to hide from predators, and they'll likely attempt to cross roads on their way back to your house.

Best answer. Plus skin it and make a puppet with the skin for haunting children's dreams.

After you shoot it you can release it where ever you like. Very small chance of it coming back.

Fine by me if other squirrels murder it. Fucker's chewing my roof.

Thank you for sparing it OP. Most people would not be so kind.
Just a guess, but I would say a mile. I can't imagine it would be able to find it's way back that far. Maybe two for good measure.
