hi all,
so i have been deeply desiring a dog for probably over a year now. i understand that at my current stage in life (being a college student) getting a dog is just not a feasible idea. but i think about dogs every fucking day. i look at photos of them doing cute little things and i think long and hard about what breed to get once i'm capable of getting one.
for a really long time i wanted to get a corgi. intelligent, affectionate, adorable, the perfect size. but to get a well bred corgi would not only cost over 2 grand, there would be a waiting list of at least a year or two.
i started to shift my focus to goldens because they seem like the perfect dog but they're kind of gigantic. at least for me. i want a dog i can scoop up easily but not one that's like two lbs.
are there any dogs with the intelligence/temperament of a golden or corgi that's medium sized? i was considering a duck tolling retriever or a border collie but they both require far too much exercise and stimulation.
i really would like a dog that's affectionate, has the intelligence of something like a golden, has a high desire to please and is not over 50 lbs, with 50 being the maximum cut off.

>non merle
i didn't know aussies came non merle! they seem like wonderful companions. i just have two questions regarding them if you don't mind.
i hear the merle gene is indicative of health problems, is that correct? mainly stuff like blindness and hip dysplasia iirc
two are miniature aussies legit or are they either inbred or just a straight up lie?

go to a shelter and adopt a mutt.
if you're worried about character/temperament, get to know the dog you're adopting first by spending some time with him (going on walks, maybe taking him home sometimes) over the span of a month.
please dont feed the breeding industry

Pigeons have a lot of free time. I really seen one get killed by a falcon today.

why not? they can't buy treadmills to use at home you know
My friend lives in a wooden house, They knew they had a hive of wasps in their attic.
Today thay decided to make a hole in the celling and get rid of it.
They didnt expeced it 2 be so big O.o big as a man.
Why did they have to cut a hole in the ceiling to access the attic?
>>2327624
They had no hole to get there
What sort of music does your dog enjoy listening to?
I just record screaming animals and blast it at him in the sorrow room.
>>2324856
My dog gets curious when there are electronic/8-bit sounds but otherwise doesn't seem to care.
She fucking loves droning synth music
I watched Drive after her night walk when she's usually out like a light and she was entranced
I've had barn swallows nest under my awning for years. They usually show up around the 27th or 28th of Feb, but they showed up a little early this year. Fitting, since we haven't had much of a winter.
Who else has their swallows or martins back?
>>2324381
do you know why kingfishers are called martins in french/spanish?
Ive been trying to find out but I cant find anything
>>2324729
Nope.
Try /int/.
>>2324729
Swifts are called "martinets" in french because they migrate around the date of Saint Martin. The term was then historically extended to other species including the kingfisher (possibly because of its similar flying behavior). It was even called "martinet-pêcheur" at first.
i like dogs but i cant be bothered to look after another living creature
what breed of dog requires the least amount of care?
>>2328646
Ferrets
>>2328646
None.
how can you cuddle with your small dog without crushing it.
I own a mid sized dog,so i am curious.
I often have the need to squeeze her as hard as I can to show my love.
Because normal people don't act like the fucking retarded looney tunes yeti.
>>2327437
This.
If you don't have down's syndrome, you should be able to love a small dog without crushing its skull. Just like how you would a child.
>>2327430
if it's bigger than a chihuahua it should be fine

am I supposed to be mad about this or something? better than amerifats never learning about how their burgers are made
Pigs are smarter than dogs and we eat them in my country. Cows have best friends and love being petted and we eat those too. I love my dog but I understand that the animals that it's okay or not okay to eat differs by culture.
PITBULLS: Misunderstood breed or genetically and inexorably predispositioned to hyper aggression?
>>2319352
the second. They should be treated like tamed wild animals, not domesticated pets
look at how sweet and mushy the one I raised since a puppy is with me! he loves me and isn't violent or aggressive at all!
same can be said for lions, and bears, and hippos, and all sorts of other shit people raise from infancy.
They might be nice and sweet to YOU, and even have a more relaxed temperament than their wild counterparts, but that switch can flip without any notice and they go on a war path of feral aggression
pitbulls are
- dumb
- strong
- aggressive
lots of breeds are dumb and aggressive, but weak (think chihuahuas)
lots of breeds are strong and aggressive, but smart (think GSD)
lots of breeds are dumb and strong, but passive (think great dane)
Pitbulls make a very deadly combination of attributes.
>>2319352
I don't know honestly.
I do know I would not bring one into my home.
My cousin adopted one as a puppy and had a very bad experience. It was very loyal to her, but aggressive to everything else. She spent $1,000s on trainers/various camps (eventually psych medications), and it still attacked people. I know it bit at least 3 people (in one instance ripped a girl's hair out of her head). She was forced to put it down; it wasn't even two years old yet.

What kind of fish is that?
So I bought my dog from a back yard breeder.
Sorry.
Unfortunately he became a viscous killing machine. Relentless in his attempt to destroy humanity.
You were right guys.
Watch out for spine and hip issues as well as seizures. I'd recommend going ahead and getting him on some good joint supplements
I hope that saving a few hundreds now is worth the thousands you'll be paying later.
Though really, no one really cares. BYB is still heaps better than puppy mills.
Really makes you think...

They attract bugs, sure. I have a zapper full of bugs attracted by LED's. Bugs are attracted to LED backlit screens. Whatever.
Still, I don't see how bugs getting attracted to street lights at night is a problem.
LED's are brighter per watt than other lights, so maybe the whole study is bullshit.
Can you harvest feathers from a chicken... like... renewably? Like if I removed the feathers of it off would they eventually grow back? And how many times could I repeat the cycle before the chicken wore out?
Similarly, if I removed the feathers from a pigeon, would it still be able to fly?
Birds molt a new set of feathers every year around spring time. So yes they grow back. They also naturally lose feathers all the time. However, plucking them may cause the feathers to grow back like shit. Even a few flight feathers that grow in wrong can prevent good flying
>>2328208
>Before the chicken wore out
I lold
It would probably hurt the chicken a lot. Feathers are embedded into the skin. Especially primary, secondary and tail feathers that have a thicker quill. They tend to bleed if they get torn out and preemptively plucked or damaged feathers may not grow back properly. In general it's normal for them to loose feathers here and there, mostly body feathers.
Birds do molt however, where they naturally shed their all their feathers. It could be a few at a time or a ton of it according to some parrots I've seen. Makes me wonder wtf do they do in the wild when they're mostly naked.
And no birds can't fly without feathers. Even just missing some tail or wing feathers may fuck up their ability to fly. Seen some wild birds without their tails and they suck at landing, can't fly very straight. Seen some missing too many primaries so they sort of do these accidental turns and are horribly inacurrate when trying to perch. Pretty goofy. I've found an odd number of complete blue jay and mocking bird tails with vertebrae attached.
