my disgusting neighbors with the pungent cat stink that would waft into my apartment and whose cheap garbage bags full of stank litter would break open in the common hallway spilling rotten cat piss and shit finally got evicted!
as a final farewell they left a bag full of dirty litter, cat piss covered clothes and moldy food strewn all over the back yard
catfags are lovely, aren't they?

dogs, males dogs specifically, almost universally hate me, they're either scared, try to get away from me, or bark maliciously. do they smell my fear? am I a bad person? it really makes me self conscious.
>>2331185
You have the virgin scent
>>2331185
>do they smell my fear? am I a bad person?
Possibly both. Most likely it's just that said dogs aren't well socialized with men.
Your body language is probably affecting the dogs too. If you're tense than that is going to make some dogs nervous. Especially if you make eye contact with the dog/s. Staring at a strange dog is just going to make the dog uncomfortable. An uncomfortable dog is either going to react with flight or fight.
Dogs judge you immediately when they meet you.
As other anons said, if you are tense and fearful they will pick up on it and in turn become tense and fearful.
Try to keep your shoulders back, don't keep eye contact - but don't completely look away from them, just occasionally look at their face and if you're petting it don't be afraid to just look at the owner and talk to them.
If you have a hood/long hair that covers your face move them back so they can see you.
Hold out your hand for them to sniff, hold your hand flat, and vertically so that if they try to bite you they have a harder time. If they move back, seem uncomfortable, bark, etc, don't keep trying to interact with them, it will make them more uncomfortable and increase their dislike of you and they might bite if you aren't careful.
If you know the owner, ask for time to get to know the dog by playing with it and giving it treats. You may just need to get time to get to know the dog and them you.

If you let them out of their cage for free roam time each day, not bad. 7/10
If you keep such a large creature in such a tiny cage, horrible and 1/10
>>2331100
awful and way too small

I try to let them out for at least an hour a day
I mean somedays I don't have time or I forget
Guys, I need someone who knows about dog behavior.
My Malamute/Husky mix, who is fully grown, just attacked his puppy we just brought home.
We had to rush the puppy to the vet due to a puncture in his neck, but no serious wounds besides that.
My question is what could make my dog do this? He has visited them numerous times without attacking and he even was playing with the puppy for a solid 5 to 10 minutes before the attack.
He is normally a very mellow and non-aggressive dog. What the hell happened?
ignore the flipped image because I'm an idiot.
I just need answers. My room mate and I are baffled that he would go from playing and just being mellow to full on trying to attack him and any answers would be very appreciated.
>>2331076
You brought a new dog into his territory. What did you expect?
Huskies and malamutes have a high prey drive too and are generally not safe around small fluffy animals, including small dogs.
When I brought a new dog home with my husky, we kept them separated for like 3 weeks and just walked them close together everyday. Even when I was comfortable that my husky wasn't acting territorial anymore, I still never left them alone together until the puppy was big enough not to be seen as prey.
No one can really tell you the exact reason why the attack happened without witnessing it. The puppy might have overstepped its bounds, the puppy might have triggered the chase and kill instinct in your dog, your dog might have been resource guarding a toy/bed/food and attacked.

Has anyone used inorganic potting medium for orchids. I've noticed more youtubers using clay pebbles and seramis. I was wonder if anyone has tried it, and what their experience was. I bought old potting medium from a small local store and it poisoned most of my phaleonopsis orchids. The roots turned black/brown then died. The went from the pic too half that root system. Basically what I'm saying is they're all bare root right now, and I'm trying to decide what to do.
Pumice has long been a popular medium for orchids
>>2330829
Are there people who only use pumice?
>>2330837
Sure? There are all sorts of different kinds of orchids, why don't you try looking up specific types and what they like. There are some real fanatics who I'm sure have exact options.
When I was twelve, there was a family of cats living next to us and we got them all inside and kept them (the neighbors got one before us, but I know they love animals and probably gave it to the SPCA.)
One of them was Tigger. When we named her we thought she was a boy.
When we moved from our ghetto neighborhood to a pleasant rural one, she became a lot more relaxed. We have a huge window overlooking the lawn and she would always stare out of it because that's where the birds and cars were. She played sentry and would hiss when we disturbed her peace.
But at night, she would follow me around, and when I put my hand down, she would prance like a pony to rub her head against it. One time she stood on her hind legs waiting for me to put my hand down.
Last Christmas we went to visit my brothers and stayed there for a few days. The day after Christmas, we came back, and found her under my parents' bed. She was dead. She was cold and had died that morning, with a small puddle of vomit and piss near the bed. My relatives taking care of the house said all she did was vomit, otherwise nothing was wrong with her. She had no wounds, no visible infections or anything, we still have absolutely no idea what killed her. And her mama and sisters were visibly distressed.
I cried like a bitch. I cried harder than I probably ever had (and I cry a lot,) it hurt so fucking much to see her all stiff like that with her paws and chest wet with urine.
My mom cried too and held her for a bit. My dad doesn't cry, but he was incredibly shocked. He held me and my mom and let us cry for a bit. He wrapped her in an airtight plastic bag and put her in the garage so we could bury her in the morning.
The next morning, my mom and I went to the garage and held her for a bit. I didn't touch her paws partly because they were still wet with piss and partly because I thought it'd be disrespectful.
We buried her right outside of the big window, her favorite place in the world. cont
cont My dad was tearing up as he dug the hole. Later that day my mom told me Tigger was his favorite out of my cat's litter. It surprised me. A while ago when she was more skittish, my dad hated her, and she hated him. He tried to hit her once and it made my mom very upset. When we moved, she became more relaxed. She loved to sit on his lap and he was her favorite person in the house.
I've had nightmares about seeing her. In my dream, she'd be alive and well, as if she never died, then she'd be dead, and I'd have to see her dead face again. I still have nightmares. I still my kitty and I still cry. I wish I could move on like I did with our cat that died over a year ago, but she was so sweet. I miss her.
Be strong, anon.

At the very most I can keep 1. Will a shelter take the ones I can't? Should I try and just give them away?
Pic not related
>>2330674
A shelter will take them yeah. Just take them away from momma at an appropriate age.
>>2330674
Yes, a shelter will take them. Kittens get adopted pretty easily.
Make sure you wait 8-10 weeks before seperating them from their mom, though. Otherwise the cats will a) not survive well or b) be emotionally fucked & weird
>>2330674
A river will take them
My neighbors recently got a pitbull, and seem to have all but abandoned it in their yard. It's locked in a cage, with nothing but dirt/grass and a usually empty bowl of water and food all day, and all night apparently.
It's 50 some thing degrees here and it doesn't have a dog house to go in to or any thing. Last night the dog was pacing back and forth for hours on end I assume trying to stay warm. Tonight it's curled up in a ball in the corner.
The dog initially use to make a fuck load of noise, how ever I think they put a barking collar on it, as it is dead silent for the past week, even when I walk by or if one of the neighborhood cats checks out it's cage.
The whole thing seems like animal cruelty, and I already have prior experience with these people suggesting they are not the brightest bunch. I am not sure what I should do though.
I want to buy the dog a doghouse, but I don't want some one elses pet being my finacial burden. I want to say some thing to my neighbors, but I also don't want to start a bad relationship with them, as it's unlikely they will be leaving or thrown out of there house any time soon. I want to call the humane society, but i'm worried they will take the dog, throw it in a cage in a shelter, and gas it a month down the road if no one adopts.
Does any one have any suggestions on what I can or should do? Or perhaps what you would do? Is this animal cruelty/even legal?
>>2330117
I haven't done any thing yet, that's a strange law?
After reading the ASPCA site a bit it does look like this is definently illegal. I'm having a hard time finding a good number to call for help, as again, i'm worried if I call the cops that the dog may end up in a worse place?
I'm not a huge pet owner personally so i'm really clueless about what goes on at shelters or when animals get taken. I"m definently going to notify some one, but are the cops really the best choice?
Thanks for the response.
>>2330140
What state do you live in? In most cases, it'd be better to put the poor thing in even a kill shelter than to let it keep getting abused.
