Dog hiking/camping general.

Thru hiking the Appalachian trail with a dog. Anybody done it? She's a healthy dog, mix of a hunting breed and herding breed. I think she could handle it but I want to hear from others who've done it.

Not who you wanted, but I live in a tiny town that's only feature is being right off the Appalachian trail and I've seen hikers with dogs enough times to know you can do it.
>>
>>2322897
If she's healthy, I can't see why she couldn't handle it. Just keep an eye on her to make sure she isn't sore or dehydrated or anything and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Make sure your dog has been working up to it. If you don't take your dog on hikes/walks often and surprise it with a big one, you may end up having to make many large breaks. Bring water with you and something to use as a water bowl. Take breaks if you notice her slowing down or over heating. If overheating is an issue, bring rubbing alcohol to put on the paw pads. Don't overdo that though because she could cool off so fast it could give her shock.

You can also try asking /out/ for tips. Just beware that some posters will say they will hurt your dog if they see it off-leash.

Hi /an/

I need some advice. My girlfriend and I finally moved into a housing situation that would allow a dog. We've wanted a dog for years but did not feel right keeping one in a small 1 bedroom apartment. We moved to a larger house and have researched numerous breeds and decided to "rescue" a dog from a shelter or rescue group.

After a few months we finally found a dog (Lucy), happened to be a puppy, who was up for adoption. We got her on Sunday and it is now Wednesday. She has been acting like a normal puppy the entire time however this morning we had an emergency.

In the morning, she puked liquid (no food) and had a large 3" lump on the side of her neck. I have been by her side every minute that we have had her, and this lump appeared extremely fast and over night. There were no signs of this lump at night prior to this morning. This was only 3 days after we got her from the rescue group. She acted normal but I immediately took her to a vet that was recommended by a friend. We were going to take her on Friday or Saturday, but decided to make an emergency visit today. 13 weeks old

During the visit, the vet used a needle to take a sample from the abscess to analyze. She said that it was majority white blood cells (puss) and that it was likely some sort of trauma wound like a cat nail or thorn or something. She recommended draining the abscess or I could take her home and monitor it.

Per vet recommendation, i decided to go through with the abscess draining procedure and she ended up having more blood than puss in the abscess. I now have a puppy with a cone on her head and a tube for the abscess to drain out. Anti-biotics, pain killers, etc.

She is still very active almost more active than before. I just wanted to see if /an/ had any 2nd opinions and I can provide more details. We love Lucy very much and want her to be a part of our lives forever.

Was this the right decision?

Something is very, VERY wrong with this dog. Talk to the rescue group.

What am I looking at?

That is very strange. I would def. talk to the rescue group about this. Something's suspicious

Took me awhile to figured it out. Top left of the dogs ear, and the bump is under her jaw, the fleshy part that kind of looks like an eye is her jowls.

That tooth looking thing looks like a drain OP mentioned. I've never heard of a dog with drains so I can't say if that looks normal but it looks oddly long. Even with a cone it looks very easy to rip out.
Those stitches look fucking horrendous too. Is this after she got it drained, OP? Did it look like that when you left or did she managed to scratch/get the wound caught on something?

Can't provide any real advice, OP. With an abcess that big it should be drained but it's bizarre for it to still be that huge. Did they stop manually draining it because of too much blood? Abcesses can form over night but it's odd it got that big that fast and the vet wasn't getting much pus out of it, so perhaps it's more of a tumor. Is it firm or soft? Does it feel 'stuck' in place or loose? Such as does it feel like it's moveable under the skin or does it feel attached to something.
Don't fuck around with it just to answer me though.

Did they say anything about re-doing a surgery to remove the whole thing or too risky?

What kind of breed of animal would be best for esports? I was thinking about this last night and so far I've determined that a beagles would be the best at Madden 25 (that's the version I have for the xbax) but I'm open to suggestions on other esport animals

I need some serious advice I hope someone here can help me

I'm kind of a noob shepherd and one of my ewes is pregnant, the water sac emerged a day ago but has not ruptured, and the birthing appears to be stalling.

I'm not sure this is a mispositioning problem because she hasnt actually gone into labor I dont think, her water hasnt even broken, just the sac has emerged and is visible

Does anyone have any experience with sheep and know what's going on

Pic is one of the rams

Anyone else never going to eat an animal again? I may even stop drinking milk. I've had too many experiences with animals, they're my friends. This chicken I petted, I felt bad that billions of chickens are enslaved and murdered every year for low quality meat. Then this ferret at a zoo in another country, it was so nice, I petted it and as we left in the van it ran out of the zoo just to hug me goodbye... I WILL NEVER eat meat again, I want animal welfare, I don't mind if you eat meat but you should stop.

Good for you anon!
I feel hypocritical for eating meat, as altough I don't find animal death morally wrong, the treatment of for example battery hens is unacceptable.

So I'm looking to get a new puppy after getting past the death of my German Shepherd, who unfortunately died of cancer despite my best efforts finding a good breeder. I was thinking of finding a Golden Retriever breeder, but don't know enough about the breed to start. I can't find whether or not there is an actual working and show breed, or if they're all one breed. I know there are English, Canadian, and American golden retrievers as well, but don't know the real differences.

I live in Vegas, don't mind a few hour drive to pick a dog up, otherwise I can ship it. With most dogs I dislike how the AKC breeds in genetic defects, so I'd like as much of a "working" breed as possible.

Thanks!

Hi /an/.
Pic Related is my pupper Sammy. He's about 2 years old, and he's a Boxer-Pit mix. (pic related was taken months ago)
Today my family and I took Sammy to the vet because he was experiencing constipation, loss of appetite, weakness, pain in his abdomen, and he wouldn't drink any water.
He would however eat steak, porkchops, and chicken; human food.
One of my family members has been giving him gatorade with a syringe-turkey baster deal so he's been being hydrated.
Apparently last Friday was the last time he has pooped, and it was bloody/messy from what I was told.
It's been a couple of hours since we dropped him off at the vet, they've done X-Rays and all the tests and apparently he has Parvo.
I believe they're moving him to an /an/imal hospital to have him treated with IVs and the like.
They said we'd know the result in 48 hours.
We're not 100% on where he contracted it from, but we think he got it from the cat.
I've read around and some places say that it can originate from cats.
About 1-2 weeks ago he had been getting into our new cat's litter box, and eating cat litter. Some of you may remember the thread I made concerning my hyperactive cat messing around with wires and crap under my desk. (The cat's name was Pickles but has since been renamed to Toki)
There are also stray cats that hang around the backyard of our house. (we have a pretty decent sized yard, 3 trailer houses in total are on our property.)
Sammy had dug a pretty deep hole in the front yard to, we've also put this on the list of possible contractions.
The cat and the dog eat and drink after each other, which will be put to a stop if Sammy makes it through this.
He seemed to be recovering over the past day or so. He drank some from his water bowl.
Sometimes there's a pack of stray dogs that come here in the winter, but they haven't been here since October
I come to /an/ to ask what I should do, what I should expect, and what you think he contracted it from.

Predators tend to be large depending on the amount, availability or size of prey.

Lions mainly live in savannas and grasslands, which tend to be ideal environments for large prey due to the fact they are open flat pastures. This is why there is so much prey for lions to choose from
[animals used to come in greater bulk with more overlap before the advent of human advancements and environment issues]
1.Warthog
2. Gazelle
3. Impala
4. Bushbuck
5. Topy
6. Waterbuck
7. Blue-wildebeest
8. Black-wildebeest
9. Nyala
10. Sable antelope
11. Zebra (three living species)
12. Greater-Kudu
13. Oryx
14. Cape-buffalo
15. Common-elands
16. Giant-eland
17. Giraffe
18. Hippo (although rare)
19. African elephants (mainly juveniles and adolescents, but adult females falling prey have been documented)

With a combination of large size, great power, and intelligent cooperation(prides), lions are pretty designed to thin these herds and sustain a healthy herbivores population.

How the fuck do I stop my bitch from being such a slut/nympho? Every fucking time we start playing in bed (because im a lazy mofo) she puts my head between her legs and starts humping. She only does this to me and not the other people, or even other dogs. She only humps me. I give her a smack on the head every time she tries but I don't like smacking her, and a few seconds later she goes back to humping. I'm done with this "humping = dominance" crap that people/vets say, since she obviously doesn't like getting smacked, which means that humping is a greater pleasure than getting hit being bad is.

Get her a "hump pillow".
Get her a dog dildo. Attach it to wall via suction cup.
Throw her out of the bedroom for humping your face.

There's options.
