Any fans of this masterpiece? For some reason this game feels special to me, even through I only played a bit of the demo when I was 10 (I am 23 now) and I played the full version in 2011 for the first time. Recently replayed it again with the System Shock Infinite mod (which adds a time travel element to the story and game). I don't use graphic mods, for some reason I feel the original low poly models make the annelid human hybrids look more inhuman and horrifying. The atmosphere, gameplay, visual style... I just love it. Anyone who feels similiar?

masterpiece is really stretching it for a game that never hits any high moments outside of a scripted sequence or two and completely falls apart in the last third.

Just got to Thief threads all the fans are there.

I agree its a masterpiece, I actually like much more than Deus Ex and I played them when they came out.

Everybody tried to copy it one way or another, but even the way the logs were made and written tells Looking Glass was a superior dev house.

Bioshock logs feel like contrived shit next to SS2.
>>

I played Deus Ex and couldn't get into it as I could get into System Shock 2. As for Bioshock, I actually enjoyed it, but I don't see it as a "spiritual succesor" of SS2, but as a completely different game. Half of System shock 2 for me is being stuck in a neon lit (yet creepy as fuck) spaceship many lightyears from Earth and the risk of a psycho AI literally reshaping the universe, creeping around corridors with your enemies literally begging you to kill you. Bioshock? A bunch of rich jerkasses fucked up their secret society at the bottom of the ocean, so what? Your enemies are literal junkies, there is no inventary system, no specialization (like in SS2 OSA vs Marine vs Navy), no real skill system etc. SS2 is said to be a FPS/RPG hybrid yet it is more of an RPG than Skyrim.

Flash cart. Then you can play Super Metroid and the rest of the SNES library (with a handful of exceptions) on the original hardware.

My favorite game in the series is Metroid Prime
>>
buy the japanese version. its the exact same game. change it to english in the language settings...
>>

This. It's literally the exact same ROM. If you look at the NTSC release in ROMsets, it always says "Super Metroid (J) (USA)"

As to cheap SNES consoles, if you don't want to shell out full cash, just go to stone age gamer and buy one of their clone systems. They're pretty cheap and most of them play NES games too.

What's the oldest video game that you consider to be one of your favorites?

For me, Sega's Monaco GP, from 1979. I've been able to play it on location a few times, and have recently been playing this excellent "simulation" of it (as a discrete logic game, it cannot be played using MAME).

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=134445.0

It's a very simple driving game with the only goal being to drive as fast as you can to keep scoring points, and not crash. What makes it great is that it has an incredible sense of speed, especially for such an early game. The feeling of weaving through traffic at full throttle and hearing the engine roaring higher and higher is fucking awesome.

You can also play it on the "Sega Ages Memorial Selection Vol. 2", for Saturn.

I liked the Taito Version called Super Speed Race V. I remember playing it a lot when i was a kid. But nowadays the only arcade who still got one functional closed a few months ago.

Im really interested in playing Might and magic from world of xeen, to 6 to 8 (I think 9 was the bad one I dont remember), and Wizardry from 6 to 8, since Wizardry lets you carry on your characters and apparently 8 has extra content for parties that come from the sixth game. Also the goldbox games from Pool of radiance onward.

Now, since all these games are long as fuck, wich series should I prioritize?

For the D&D games the goldox helper seems pretty useful, but Im stuck on a modern laptop and my attemps at playing Pool have been clunky at best, the game was clearly desingned for older keyboards and sometimes I find myself pressing every key trying to guess wich one will do what I want when navigating the interface, and the helper doesnt have options to change the key mapping.

Wizardry is famous for being an asshole to you, and 6 looks ugly as fuck with those gray walls everywhere, (and thats saying something since I dont mind the graphics on Pool) now 7 and 8 seem more tolerable to me, but I dont know what Im missing if I skip 6.

World of Xeen looks much better, and I really like that its two games combined in one with extra content added (I have no idea how you can manage to finish both games without having your characters dying of old age), but looks maybe a bit too basic mechanically, and the visuals in 6 aged like dogshit, maybe Im sounding too harsh but M&M as a whole still has this weird quality that appeals to me in some level.

Maybe all these games are overrated as fuck, But I would like to hear your opinions /vr/

Start with M&M3. It's almost as good as World of Xeen.
>>
Go with Might&Magic out of the three. It's the easiest to get into out of the three since the ruleset is simple and clear and in my opinion, the most fun series. Start with M&M3 like the other anon said if you're going to play Might&Magic first. There should be a link to them in the HoMM general.

I'm looking for a game that I played on pc 10-15 years ago that I couldnt remember the name... It was probably made long before then (latest around 2003? and probably made in 1990s?)
The graphic is similar to that of starcraft1's
The game is in real time(not turn based) and resembles RTS

However, it has no "sandbox" mode from what i remember and only story mode, where there are already characters on the map and you are trying to complete a certain mission, with limited units (I think they are characters from the story) (That means the player cant produce units, nor can the AI)
I dont recall there being any cartoon, nor the pictures being obviously pixelized.. I do remember most of the artstyle can be described as "similar to starcraft"

I remember that after each mission, one is able to upgrade their characters, which most lies on the same upgrade path that starts off from:
A base ground ranged unit that can eventually become a melee, flight, ground ranged oriented model, which most of these can be later upgraded to different, more advanced variations, (Except i remember that the flight model has only one path)

I remember that after the first mission, there is a character on a motorcycle, a character that is already in the basic flight model, a character that is already in the basic melee model, a robot with female appearance that has its own unique upgrade path, and the rest few are in basic unit models

Because i was too young back then I didnt pay attention to the story line, or any worded detail of the game, such as name or year it was made...
I spent alot of time looking it up sometimes and i have not yet found a single trace of it...
Regardless, thanks for your attention and please let me know if any of you has any idea of what game this is?
Let me know if you all has any questions, I will do my best to answer whether it is related to my post or not @_@

Here is a picture of starcraft 1 i found on google
Thanks all!

Are there any good flashcarts for Genesis on Amazon?

The Mega Everdrive line are pretty good, but the sellers on amazon are asking for a lot more than getting them directly from krikzz. Power to you supporting the sellers on amazon if you have the money to spare as they have needs to be met.

Op just wants to do the charitable thing by purchasing a flashcart for the seller and as a bonus get another one for themselves. Everybody wins. That's why Op chose amazon.

Do you think it's right for people who have access to unreleased games and one-of a kind roms to be able to hold it back from us and not dump it until they get something in return?

He bought it.

Kinda like how scalping is perfectly fine under the way capitalism works, but I think it's the scummiest legal way of making money imaginable.

The last one I recall was Happily Ever After for the NES right?
