Ok, lately i've been doing some packing because i'm gonna be moving soon. When I was going through my dad's closet, I discovered a sealed Super Metroid box in it. I asked him about it and was very intrigued that he still had it. Why unopened, he doesn't know. He said probably was originally a gift yesrs ago, but never gave it. Anyways, he gave it to me and I want to know if I should sell it or keep it. I have an SNES, but i don't wanna open it. If I do sell it, how much do you think it's worth. I've seen them up to like $200 opened. But mine is complete sealed.

Probably double.
I suggest you use the youtube wave and sell that thing as high as you can while you can.
>>
>>3785082
if you're a fan of metroid keep it. If not sell it.
>>
>>3785082
Sell the sealed copy and buy an open one. That way, you'll make money and still have the game.

I am EOP trash who wants to play this. I know the SNES one is out recently, but I want to play the MSX version.

My problem is, the extent of MSX usage I've had is with busted Oasis version of Ys 1 that always glitched, so I just burned through the Japanese one.

I read that WOOMB.NET did a modern MSX release in 2007, but I can't find it. romhacking has the Delta Soft MSX one, but I don't know how to run multi disc patches. Can I just have the patch and the game file keep the same name, and that's enough to make it work?

I was also hoping for the opinion of someone who is more familiar with it - I read I need the keyboard, how much so? I would rather play it on my PSP but considering that and the multiple discs, I'm not sure I should bother.

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for your time.

It is? I thought that was only some basic menu translation
http://www.romhacking.net/?page=translations&game=2279&languageid=
Can't help you with your problem. I learned Japanese so I don't have to deal with crappy patches.

As far as I remember you don't need many keys. One to active attack mode, one to access inventory, one to access items, one to use them, one to save and one to load and one to pause if you want to.
>>
>>3785007
Well that's exactly how many buttons the psp has so hopefully it doesn't need any more
>>
>>3785014
You can probably drop the buttons for save, load and pause and replace them with emulator functions.

Simple question:
I have Resident Evil 2 downloaded onto PS3 and am playing it on my CRT connected with an S-Video cable. The image flickers like crazy and it's not that good of an experience.
Maybe it's just in my head, but my actual physical games I play on my PS2 use the same cable and tv look better.

What gives?

But if I had to chose one it would probably be Kirby, the one on the Gameboy. One of the few I didn't play as a kid.

Honestly, even just referring to Kitamura as the "designer" of Megaman is massively downplaying the reality of the situation. Kitamura created EVERYTHING we know and think about Megaman. The characters, their designs, the story, the bosses, the level select systems, the basics of game design right down to the patterns the enemies attack in, he wrote the fucking manual...

http://shmuplations.com/megaman/

Read this interview and you will be astonished with how little Inafune had to do with the first two Megaman games. It was all Kitamura.

We know.
>>
He wasn't even called Mega Man back then so it's completely irrelevant.
>>
We know this, but at the same time you gotta learn to retain some critical reading.
Never blindlly trust any interview you read. Always think, who's answering, how, who's asking the questions and what questions.

This is an interview of that one man by a fan of that one man, so obviously the questions are meant to make him look good. Some of the answers involve 'we' or the team. And even if he doesn't mean anything wrong, he could be remembering things wrong or differently.

You can end up finding contradicting answers, like how he mentions he spent a lot of time "studying enemy placement in other games" but other devs saw that as spending work time having fun playing games instead of working. The truth is probably somewhere in between.

Critical thinking is important and not just regarding video games, it's the same when you read or watch world news, no matter where it comes from, the very fact that they decide to talk about a subject versus another one means a lot.

How in the everliving fuck was this possible on stock Genesis hardware?

In particular the textured ground effects like the shiny river in the desert level which moved relative to you with correct perspective.

I mean there's loads of other "how the fuck did they do that" effects in this game but that one in particular blows my mind

There were also places like this where the whole background layer (a castle or something) appeared to smoothly scale up as you approached it.

The Sega CD had a special chip that let it do this. Was that chip in the Panorama Cotton cart? If not, how did it achieve this effect without it?
>>
>>3784296
The only Genesis game with an expansion chip was Virtua Racing.

I just bought a Saturn. Never even played one before in my life because everyone I knew including myself was playing ps1 or n64 back then.

What are the essential games for it? Especially shmups, I bought it because I heard it's even better than the dreamcast in the shmup department
24 posts and 4 images submitted.

It is better than the dreamcast for pretty much everything. As far as essentials go:

Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon Zwei and Panzer Dragoon Saga are rightfully considered timeless games. Challenging, high energy, and beautiful. The third game is an RPG but the first two will suck you into the universe that you'll be eager for a game like that.

Guardian Heroes is an awesome brawler style game with tons of characters who you level up and improve stats bit by bit, control an undead knight and send him on rampages against the enemies who you fight in 3 different fields on a stage. Very fun game, I always tell people to try doing fighting game style inputs and when they notice how they work, they fall in love with the game.

The first game I played for my Saturn (apart from Mega Man X4) was Cotton 2 and its sequel, Cotton Boomerang. They are both amazing STGs and they're a lot of fun with great music and a very unique game play mechanic called grab. You can grab just about everything, enemies, projectiles, and upgrades and they all give different results when you throw them at enemies. Boomerang is a flat out improvement and makes the grab a punch and a grab, so when enemies are shooting waves of danmaku at you, you're given the option to go full kenshiro and punch your way through waves and waves of bullets and also punch the shit out of enemies. The grab really sells the game once you realize you can grab entire bosses, their weapons, throw them back at them, it's a wonderful mechanic.

Also check out Assault Suit Leynos 2, I just started this one but man it's really something else. It has these cool rotational sprite graphics and you pilot a mech suit which you zoom around these battle fields with jets and take on massive robots and enemy tanks and helicopters and mechs. It's a real killer game.

Very solid list. I would like to add this though:

Before you buy any game do yourself a favor and buy an Action Replay. Flash it with Pseudo Saturn and enjoy all the NA and JPN releases without breaking the bank!

Why did the PC-98 have so many porn games?
28 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
Because that was its market. To make a successful video game targeting adults in Japan in the 80s it almost had to have some sexual content. A lot of the games clearly have had it added as an afterthought when you play them, or have it more or less only as part of the introduction to hook players.
>>
>>3783771
It had more mature target auditory than consoles, but at the same time less numerous. Porn games happened to cover this market well enough.
>>
The hardware had no native sprite support which makes making action based games difficult. Visual novels are the one genre that don't need that and the best way to sell visual novels is to include porn.
