I'm working on a project that might interest some of /vr/
We're developing a neural network that can learn how to play SFII on the SNES (very similar concept to MarI/O). One of the first steps is to determine which memory addresses in the emulator correspond to things like X position, Y position, lifebar, etc.
We found an incomplete map here:
https://www.smwcentral.net/?p=viewthread&t=33039
But that's for the arcade version and it seems like the memory addresses used are different. Does anyone happen to know some obscure forum where we might find this information?
Why don't you find them yourself, nigga. Get Cheat Engine or something.
Wouldn't you rather chose a simpler game, like Super Mario Bros or something. The CPU is a cheating bastard in SF2.
ITT we post a phrase or word from a game and other anons try to guess which game is it.
Dont cheat with google!
I start.

One of the Legacy Of Kain games. I distinctly remember it from SR 2, but it might have been said in Blood Omen

I was doing some tech support for a friend and he offered to let me browse through an old spindle of CDs he had and take anything I wanted.
Found a loose copy of Shining Force III for the Sega Saturn and decided to take it, it's in pretty good shape and I tested it on an emulator and it seems to be working just fine.
Where should I sell this thing? Do any of you want it? 99.99 seems to be the average for a caseless copy, I'm looking for around $75 shipped.
I'll give you a dollar for it.
I prefer Amazon because it's the fastest way to list. Don't need to add photos or anything, just say it's CD only and describe the condition accurately (assuming you already have a seller account)
Fees are about the same as eBay with the shipping credit.
You could also try some forums like cheapassgamer or neogaf.
>>3946805
Listed it on Amazon, didn't have a seller account but wasn't hard to register.
Can live with the fees and walk away with 72.99 and still significantly undercut similar sellers. Thanks!
what was the most obscure/shitty/lesser known playstation game you have played
Pic related, it was the first time in my life I considered suicide might be a better option.
Got this for 10p at a car boot sale.
Not that bad considering.
>>3946440
Probably this.
Do we really not have a Brood Wars thread?
Thanks to it going free and I started up Starcraft for the time since 2005 or 2006, holy hell has it aged well. Runs and plays as smoothly and intuitively as ever, and the Terran campaign still feels comfy. Love the voice work and overall atmosphere.
Anyone else re-visiting the game? Just as fun as you remember?
>>3941683
I heard Blizzard was making it free. Is battle.net free too? Can you LAN? Any stipulations?

Afreecatv Season 3 is in full swing. Next match is on Tuesday 5pm KST. Full English commentary by Tastosis as always.
Note: It's AF-Reeka, not "Africa".

Re-visiting it as well thanks to that new patch. The game sure aged well, and somehow I got worse at it. The music keeps me gong just like back in the day.
For those interested, the installers (they download and install the whole thing)

you making a new eceleb vid?
>>3939989
whoops I thought this was a video game cover.
>>3939989
The application for being an eceleb has long been too late. The only way to make youtube videos and get popular these days are to show an extreme amount of autism or be politically or racially risque.
No, I just want to find cool games that aren't Earthbound/Megaman/Mario/Zelda that everyone already knows about.
is it just me, or are N64 games getting cheaper?
>ITT: it's 1998
>>3954381
Hey neat I'm back in 5th grade.
>>3954348
what country are you from? here in the US theyre getting more expensive by the day.
And not even repros gonna cause a drop, just last week at a convention one seller had a bunch of N64 repros, Conker, Paper Mario, Sin and Punishment and some others.
He wanted $45 for Paper Mario, and $40 for Sin and Punishment.
Absolutely retarded if you ask me, i can get the Japanese cart of Sin and Punishment for less than that.
Was the first one really the better game? I'm sure I remember enjoying the second one more as a kid.
Are the snes versions acceptable?
>>3953585
They're both good, but the second one too many gimmick levels. The genesis version of the first one is better but the SNES version of 2 is better.
Second one doesn't have THE TUUUUBES so it's automatically better. You know what level I'm talking about.
>>3953601
But you have to play three times the puppy love level. That gets very tiresome.
I really just want to create some little 8 bit games as a hobby, where should I start? I've Googled around but only find stupid click bait type guides. I want to basically start from scratch, or at least as close as possible. If there's a better board to ask please direct me and I'll delete this thread myself.
Get a C64, or any other microcomputer, and you can write one in BASIC. Just download some old user magazines for a tutorial.
>>3953558
Any 8-bit microcomputer, to clarify.
>>3953558
C64 is probably the "easiest" and also thankfully has insanely much literature regarding the subject (how to work with 6502)
Once you nail C64 down and feel comfortable, you might want to jump into NES. While it's 6502 too, it's a bit more convoluted.
After being proficient in 6502 and understanding the inner workings of NES, you could read the wikibook on SNES development. 65c816 is different but somewhat similar.
Notice: before you can even jump into C64 dev you must at least understand the basics of low-level shit. At the very least you should be able to understand and count in binary & hex, understand bitwise operators and the basics of assembly (check out https://skilldrick.github.io/easy6502/ for an interactive overview!)
One thing you must also understand that this shit isn't easy. You're better off doing game maker pixelshit for normies.
But if you're really determined to do it, good luck!!
ITT Sequels inferior to their originals in every possible way
I tried this game out last night out of curiosity because I've always heard how shitty it is compared to Zombies Ate My Neighbors and boy they weren't lying. It felt really floaty and unresponsive and I seemingly couldn't die even when I get attacked by a whole bunch of shit so I said fuck it, I kept playing hoping to knock it off my backlog. Beat World 1 and got to the samurai place. Here's where the bullshit really picks up, so I spawn in and there's a survivor I didn't know was a survivor because he had samurai gear on and just about fucking everybody in this game is out to kill you and a demon runs up and kills him and I get a game over. This all happened within a span of about five seconds so there's no way in hell anybody could've figured it out on their first try. Think I'm a liar? Do it yourself. Literally one kill and it's game over, start the whole game all over again. If that isn't horseshit, I don't know what is. Fuck this game.
It got me thinking though, what other games on /vr/ consoles/handhelds have sequels that are much worse than the original?
>>3951467
Wasn't this made by a Jap team and that's why it sucked?
>>3951467
OoT is much worse than ALTTP
>>3951471
According to the Wikipedia page a guy at Lucasarts says that it was made by "a third party" that licensed the franchise. Extremely vague but yeah it leads to that

So what do ya'll use? I some CRT's in my room but don't have dedicated speakers for them. I was looking at picking up some big 90's stereo system speakers but after some research I'm shying away from them. Now I'm looking for cheap big bookshelf speakers and a cheap but good amp to drive them.
thoughts?
>>3950372
>90's stereo system
Yep. Works gut.
Speakers in most CRTs really are pretty good, it's the newer flat panel TVs that have shit speakers simply because speakers can't be that thin and still sound good at a distance. I use a pair of pretty small JBLs (that sound surprisingly good) with the LCD TV in my bedroom that probably date back 15 years or so, and a nice Sony surround set from the late 90s in the living room.
Why can't Nintendo make perfectly accurate emulators?
>>3949851
Isn't every Nintendo console too weak for higan?
>>3949851
Why should they?
People that really care about emulation aren't gonna buy VC releases, and the people that do buy them don't care about perfect emulation.
What's inaccurate about Virtual Console?
What, specifically, is wrong with Donkey Kong Country 3?
