Im looking for a good controller for linux. I have a SnakebytePS3 and a logitech uf13a.
The snakebyte is nice but i cant get xubuntu 17.04 to recognize it. I tried sixad and it still doesnt see it plugged in. It works fine on Windows 10.
The logitech works but the controller, mainly the sticks, is ass. The housing around the sticks are square so hitting diagonals is fine but its hard to hit the left right up and down precisely without it sliding to a diagonal. The dpad isnt that great either.
I want something nice to handle PSX and up games and that works with minimal tinkering. Wired is fine.
I thought about just grabbing a f310 but how much better is it than the uf13a i have?
Gaming on Linux? To me sounds even more niche then lowspec gaming. Godspeed brave pioneer!!
Shit. I meant to put that this is mainly for emulating. I will probably get something more specific to each console later but to only have one at first i would like it to be good for all consoles from arcade to nes to psx and some retro pc games that are playable with a gamepad.
Linux plays all this fine. Now modern pc games is another story.

You fucked up
Who else played Mystic Quest back in the day? It was designed as 'babby's first RPG', and was just that for me, at the age of 7. I remember thinking at the time it was complex as fuck, but also not very difficult. I'm sure that means if I came back to it now, 20+ years later, it would be a simple piece of shit.
Thoughts on this game?
It hasn't aged very well but I do think it did an okay job to be something that introduces people to the concept of RPG. Problem is that if you've played any RPG because it's going to be a total bore to play.
Music is great though. Boss theme is one of my favorite battle tunes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOTI8j1egZg
Never played it, some of the music is real good.
Shame the guy who did the OST stopped doing videogame music and went to some Queen cover band (acording to wikipedia, not sure if it's true).
Hey all, wanna start playing Diablo.
I already played Diablo 3 but now I want to continĂșe:
Diablo 1 or Diablo 2??
This is a good question. D1 is a slower, more atmospheric experience (and harder), while D2 is essentially the greatest arpg ever made. Playing D1 after D2 might feel a little unsatisfactory due to no running.
Both in order, idiot.
Diablo 1 has amazing and atmospheric singleplayer. Diablo 2 is a little tedious in SP but makes up for it by being the single most addictive skinnerbox in the history of gaming.
Is Diablo 2 more centred in cooperative game? Cause that is what I read in some forums
Hacked the original xbox and downloaded emulators for: NES, SNES, GENESIS, PSX, N64, GBA.
Do you know other good emulators?
Also, underrated retro game gems
Bump retroarch never worked
You don't need to bump every 5 mins, newfriend. Slow board.

/vr/ isnt smart enough to hack anything besides the wii
is it possible to find old retro game code and learn how to edit it? is it easy?
Possible? Yes.
Easy? Honestly you'd have an easier time trying to remake a game from scratch and then modifying it, then you would trying to alter a rom file of any old game.
>>4227617
>is it possible to find old retro game code
yes, see this for example https://gist.github.com/1wErt3r/4048722
For most games up to and including 4th gen, you can just look at the ROM in a Hex editor and figure out what the OP-codes do. However, reading assembly is tedious and there won't be any handholding comments like in the example link
>learn how to edit it?
messing with variables is easy. it's basically what a game Genie does. Implementing entirely new funtions will require a thorough understanding of assembly.
>is it easy?
depends on what you want to achieve. generally speaking, "no".
>>4227617
check out the rom hacking thread
complete disassemblies have been done for a few games, like mario and some arcade stuff, but the pokemon games are the largest games i've ever seen disassembled (they even have the gba games)
What do you consider essential retro PC games? This is my collection of everything I have installed right now minus the half life engine crap I have on steam. Am I missing anything super important other than duke 3d and shadow warrior
You're missing supper important HoMM 3

Was Doom 2 graphically outdated? Compare it to System Shock 1 on the left which came out in 1994.
System Shock just looks really good.
>>4227239
Yeahhhhhh....uh, care to guess how many frames per second the average PC could render System Shock back then?
There is a reason why it's popularity didn't start picking up until the LATE 90s...
Doom 2 had a decent amount of on screen enemies. Think of levels like the Suburbs.
Can we take a moment to appreciate how perfect Casino night Zone is, and how it epitomizes everything great about Sonic the Hedgehog?
2P mode music is best
>and how it epitomizes everything great about Sonic the Hedgehog?
But that's not Spring Yard Zone

I can cope with this.
Found this at my local game store for 8 bucks. As crazy as this is. I don't know if it is real.
Op here: I just don't believe I could possibly own a real prototype game. The thought that I could possibly own a real prototype game is slim to none.
Play it nigger

I did try it out. It's definitely F-1 Race.

When do you think it'll be dumped?
>>4226758
>nintendo didnt put this on the nes classic
>>4226792
I don't think they own the rights anymore. Hence why the SNES version was removed from the Wii Virtual Console, nor is it on the SNES Classic.
Apparently it never came out because of bad timing. Nice pics in that thread link at the bottom!
So I have an NTSC NES and would like to play lightgun games which requires an NTSC TV. My question is, if NTSC runs at 60Hz could I buy a PAL 60Hz CRT and be able to use it without the games showing in black and white?
I live in the UK so an NTSC CRT would cost an stupid amount to get but if I could pick up a 60Hz PAL CRT and it work perfectly for my American consoles that'd save me a lot of time and money.
If it wouldn't work is there any other way of hooking an NTSC NES to a PAL CRT without the screen going black and white or just generally spazzing out?
Thanks for any help.
>>4226695
NTSC and PAL refer to colour formats. If you feed NTSC Composite or S-Video into a PAL TV, the PAL TV won't understand the NTSC colour and you'll just get a black and white image. If you're feeding it RGB, the colour format doesn't matter and it'll show up on any CRT that can sync to 525/60 (most PAL models from the 90s and 00s will do this), then yeah.
For the NES, you're gonna have to mod it for RGB.
>>4226695
>could I buy a PAL 60Hz CRT and be able to use it without the games showing in black and white?
My guess would be no, but I don't know anything and am only going off the info you yourself provided
In the US, some 2000s CRTs are NTSC/PAL I guess because it was cheaper to just make one board? At any rate, just do some shopping on your version of craigslist and look up the technical specifications or just buy a PVM
What are some good arcade conversions for home systems? and I dont meant just the accurate ones, there are some cases in wich people argue the console version is even better, like in Golden Axe for Genesis and Contra for the NES.
>>4226589
>Golden Axe for Genesis
Other than the extra level is the console version really that much better? Generally curious. Haven't played the arcade version but from I've seenon youtubeit looks better.
>>4226589
Strider on the MD is excelent. And impressive since the port was made by Sega, who didn't develop the game.
Off the top of my head:
>Super Smash TV (SNES)
>Vampire Savior/Darkstalkers 3 (Saturn)
>Joe & Mac (Genesis)
What is the point of this?

why does everything in that game have to be so slow and sluggish? the smooth and fast paced gameplay were among the strongest points in the first game.
why did they have to ruin everything with that horrible camera, and unironically have a three second recovery time everytime you took damage?
>>4226494
Just started the first one here and are you saying it gets much better? Because so far I just finished the first dream sequence and I've been pretty bored with the trial and error stuff
>>4226494
I played this long time ago so i dont really remember much about pacing problem. As far as i can remember i enjoyed it very much. I never played the first one so i cant compare. But do i have a really good experience? Definitely. Will i play it again? Unlikely.
