Sega. Best Marketing Team Ever!

Everything will eventually be garbage, its the nature of the evolving medium. 30-40 from now when vr/ar or whatever new shit is out at that time, people will look back at ps4, xbox one, and the switch, and say this shit is gar-bitch!
Hi /vr/
What year do you think was the best in video game history?
I'm partial to 1998.
Age of Empires: Rise of Rome
Baldur's Gate
Blood 2: The Chosen
Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
Delta Force
Grim Fandango
Half Life
Heretic II
Lula: The Sexy Empire
Rage of Mages
Railroad Tycoon 2
Rainbow Six
Shogo: Mobile Armor Division
SiN
Spyro the Dragon
Wargasm
Just so much good stuff.
Let me hear your favourites and why.
>>4228894
OP back.
And Fallout 2 of course. How did I forget that one?
>>4228894
>lists 1998 as his favorite year in gaming
>doesn't list any of the actual good games, like Ocarina of Time
1994 >>>>>>>>>>>> 1998
I honestly don't understand the hate for this console. Every single common criticism I hear of the N64 is retarded as fuck.
>the controller sucks!
No, you suck at using the controller. It's very comfortable and has enough buttons for any kind of game. It looks odd, but it performs perfectly.
>it has no RPGs!
Yeah, no autistic turn-based JRPG turds, what a fucking loss.
>b-but blur!
Only in the 5th gen is anti-aliasing considered a bad thing. Many games didn't even use the it, like Quake 64 or F-Zero X, and it could be implemented to varying degrees as per the developer's preference. Smoother textures is not a bad thing; jaggies and warping are fucking cancer.
The N64 was a great console, just like the PS1 and Saturn were great consoles. Anyone who says stupid shit like "N64 has no games" is easily identifiable as a complete retard and should be promptly ignored. It was a perfect multiplayer system, had great graphics, a cheap price point, and some of the most influential and groundbreaking games ever made.
>>4228756I don't have three hands
>>4228756
>perfect multiplayer system
if you've got enough friends, and mario party or smash brothers -- you all are set
>>4228757
Apparently you don't have one brain either. If you did, you'd realize you don't need to have 3 hands to use it. Playing a 3D game? Use the analog stick. Playing a 2D game? Use the dpad. Is that too much for your little brain to handle?
are there any non-fanboy arguments as to why this was the better console?
I had both snes and genesis when I was a kid, I enjoyed them both. I've been playing genesis recently after many years away and I'm quite enjoying it, i started to because I was playing gradius 3 and the entire fucking game was slowdown, so I went to truxton instead.
Better shooters and arcade style games and a greater slection of games with mature/violent themes.
The best console was owning both, the Mega Drive and the SNES.
If you only owned one of them, you missed out on half the good shit in the best era of video games.
>Darkling! I smell you're blood.
what did she mean by this?
I'm a linguist, both forms are technically correct.
>>4228025
Should be "I smell you are blood." Who translated this?!
What are the comfiest games you've ever played?
>Skies of Arcadia
>Comfy
Yeah nothing is more comfortable than getting into a fight every third step.
>>4227602
>he didn't play the cube version where they kinda fixed it.
Stardew valley
Animal crossing
Yoshis woolly world 3ds
Can we have a thread for bad cover art?
It's honestly the same shit every time we do this, OP.
Also, in before Phalanx.
>SMS covers
I actually really love this old master system covers, the typo is 10/10
Does /vr/ do 3x3 threads at all? I hope to learn about some new games from this thread if you do.

what're the games in the upper left and lower right
>>4226842
Upper left is Sengoku Turb (pic related), this really great Dreamcast action RPG where you play a girl leading an army of cats to wage war against sheep people. It's a remake/sequel of a PC98 game, and the only thing related to Bio 100% to get a little bit more exposure. The art style and sense of humor alone make it worth playing, but the gameplay is really fun too once you get into that groove of upgrading all your troops and adapting to the weird action.
Bottom right is Germs: Nerawareta Machi, a very interesting open-world survival horror game on the PS1. The artwork doesn't have the name, sorry. First-person, rather unique controls, and a really cool surrealist body horror theme. Some people relate it to Deadly Premonition.
has anyone played fallout from 1997
Yes, it's fucking amazing and 3 and 4's writing are fucking trash compared to the original 2. New Vegas is the only exception though.
>>4226729
>retro geek
>>4226807
woah ive never seen this unique hot opinion before
I tried playing Super Mario World with this and it's painful
Why?
>>4226521
D-pad was clearly made for quick taps for items in modern games, not extended use as a control method
>>4226517
Yeah just doesn't fit up your ass as easily as the old SNES controller
Thoughts on Sonic Adventure 2? How does it stack up to its predecessor?
They somehow fucked up the scavenger hunt and e-102 gamma missions by making them more tedious.
I loved unlocking the Sega Master System games in SADX
SA2 stripped that out and made collecting emblems pointless
>>4225872
There's an extra stage if you beat the game 100%.
Do you think Elite holds up? I'm interested in playing it, but I have pretty much no idea what to do aside from flying aimlessly.
>>4225787
Depends on what your preferences are. If you need a strong, story-driven or mission based narrative, you're out of luck (although the novella that came with the game is a nice touch). Most versions do have a couple of missions which are interesting, but they are very few and non-repeatable.
If you enjoy free-roaming and exploring, it's for you, as long as you don't mind everything looking the same (some versions will at least have some minor variation, like different coloured planets).
In my last playthrough, I aimed to achieve --- ELITE --- status and make 1 million credits. By the time I completed those two goals, I had pretty much seen all the game has to offer and was completely satiated by it. I'm not gonna lie, it does get very repetitive, but combat is still fun even later on, especially once you can afford a full set of military lasers and venture into anarchic systems.
Another optional goal would be to visit each of the 8 galaxies once, but it's only a matter of money and rather laughable if you've already earned 1 mill cr, so I never bothered.
>>4225948
Isn't Oolite just a graphical "upgrade" of Elite?
>>4227438
Pretty much. Elite: The new Kind is also a good way to play the game on modern hardware.
Is it just me, or is Hexen kind of 'meh'? It's extremely easy, none of the enemies are particularly memorable, and there's no "umph" to it. By "umph", I mean that addicting satisfaction you get from slaughtering enemies in Doom. Hexen has more of a "pew" than and "umph"
Have you beaten the game with all characters on their hardest difficulties? Or did you play it for an hour and thought what you wrote?
>>4224601
I'll have you know that I played for 2 full hours before posting this
>>4224594
Your moms pussy is 'meh'
Hexen is a classic
OpenTTD thread
Love it to build huge rail networks
This is one of like two computer games I still play.
Can I get a quick rundown on gitting gud at this game?
