Anyone here starting or have been hoarding consoles, controllers, and other peripherals?
>>4232225
Kind of, I have 3 NES, 2 SNES, 2 N64, 2 PSX, 2 Dreamcast, and many doubles of handhelds. I plan to get rid of many of my doubles though. I do keep extra controllers.
No, but I have a significant amount of consoles and games from my childhood. I sold a lot of it though, so my collection isn't as big as it'd be if I really kept all my childhood stuff.
I only bought some games in recent years (by recent years I mean any non-/vr/ year, from 2000 to now), but I didn't buy any new console, I already had a Saturn luckily.
If you're a serious player it makes a hell of a lot more sense than "collecting" software if you ask me.

Name one (1) reason that this game is "bad" apart from it not having Kojima's name on it.

This is Unreal
Yes. And?

And this is Quake. Now be nice to each other.

So I've been playing this Ranma 1/2 RPG and I gotta say, it's not half bad. Soundtrack is pretty dope. the characters are fun although it just follows your typical JRPG fighting system formula (like early FF games for the most part).
But it's charming indeed since you can use the bucket of cold watter and the kettle with hot water to reach areas where you couldn't go otherwise. to me, the game feels a bit similar to Mystical Ninja and Brave Fencer Musashi aesthetically, despite being a Super Nintendo game. there is an english fan translation and there are 2 versions, 1 based on the anime and 1 based on the manga. I don't exactly know what the difference is supposed to be. I only noticed dialogue and translation differences.
I played the Ranma fighting games as well and they were rather short but alright as well. A modern Ranma 1/2 game would literally be everything imo.
What other good anime/manga based retro games do you know?

oh, I forgot to mention the two ratings at the left. The top one is for a general audience, and the bottom rating is for fans of the series. So for instance he only gives Ghost in the Shell 2 stars on just its merits as a game by itself, but 5 stars if you're a Ghost in the Shell fan.
Recently started this game. How do you guys make any money? If one of my party members is defeated, the only solution at hand is to suicide the whole party, but sooner than later i will run out of food, and random encounters are either too hard or easy but hard to spot.
I went solo for a while.

Thanks, i found out i could get crops, which solves one of my issues. Getting money is another issue, not strong enough to beat more than one troll without getting some of my pals killed.
This game is really comfy. At first i thought it would require more keys/knowledge that are actually needed.
Does it take too much to level up? I've been playing for ~2 days and still i'm on level 1.
If you had to pick between Resident Evil 1 and Silent Hill 1, which would you have more fun with? Why?
More fun definitely Resident Evil. Silent Hill is the more atmospheric game.
your mom
>>4230995
Silent Hill for this reason, along with the psychological aspect. I like to live in the game rather than just play it, and something like Silent Hill makes that easy.
Anyone else got one of these on pre-order? They're supposed to be shipping this month and I'm fucking stoked.

Getting in early here since my post went completely unnoticed last thread:
I've been building a self-contained, portable DOOM WAD collection (presented as a '90s diskzine) to make the whole mess of engines / WADs / configuration more accessible. I've put together a complete Cacowards 2015 package, if you'd like to give it a whirl, here: https://spideroak.com/browse/share/Kroc/PortaDOOM/releases/
People on /vr/ actually play video games unlike the underage meme spouting faggots at /v/, right? Seriously why not attempt to beat one of those old games you never could despite trying this weekend?
Let's fucking do this and use this thread as a place to discuss our attempts and to give each other tips and encouragement.
Anyway I don't know about you guys but I am going to boot up Ultima Exodus on my NES and at finally attempt beating it.
>>4230268
Nice thread concept, I recently immigrated from /v/. I booted up my SNES since I finally borrowed a copy of Earthbound, but I need to replace the save battery before I can do anything :( I might just emulate instead...
>>4230284
why? can't i just be getting back into retro games for the first time in years?
>>4230290
emulate as much as you want, and ignore the hardware faggots
t. been emulating since the 90s
ITT: Let's discuss lost games.
Undoubtedly, some of you heard of films considered lost; in that they were produced and released, but all the negatives either disappeared or were destroyed, never to be seen again.
Such a fate could befall certain games. Some more than others. Even in the filesharing communities we have now, dumped games can risk total loss if the files remain unshared.
There are many games that are still unemulated for a host of reasons: copyright holders preventing emulation, rarity of certain titles for reasons unto themselves, et cetera.
Evil Night, known in Japan as Hell Night, may run the risk of becoming a lost game. It's hard to believe a title from a publisher as big as Konami could become lost, but the game is becoming increasingly rare as the years go by. The game was built on the Panasonic M2's hardware which only a handful of titles were made, including Evil Night and the original D2 (which was cancelled and now completely lost). Since the game has yet to be dumped, it may very well be lost to the tide of time. The arcades who carried it frequently reported issues with the cabinets, and those that broke could never be repaired on account of the unique and unusual hardware.
>>4230217
No retro game that had an actual retail release is lost. It's only true for 6thgen on.
>>4230226
>Evil Night, known in Japan as Hell Night, may run the risk of becoming a lost game.
The game isn't lost now, but it can be. Obscurity is the enemy of preservation.
In other places, games are disappearing rapidly. There are many games for early computers that have never been dumped and are rotting away in someone's attic on a 5 1/4 inch floppy. This may especially be true for the classic Japanese computers, although I haven't confirmed it.
Plenty of unreleased, unique games were made. Assuming these were never dumped, all copies can be considered lost. Odds are that some arcade machines from the '70s and even as far as the '90s were only produced in small runs by companies who went on to become defunct and that all examples of the roms were lost without being dumped and archived.
>>4230249
>In other places, games are disappearing rapidly.
Only non retro and non retail release games. And nearly all of them have been lost for 20+ years.
Again in the context of the OP no retro games have been lost.
Holy fuck why are these so expensive.
Niche market and limited production run.
Also youtube e celebs promoting the hell out of it.
>>4230064
They are going OOP.
One of the microprocessors they use is going out of production and they currently have no way to replicate it's function. They literally can't make more.
>>4230072
Jesus christ, you normies act like a component hitting its end of life is some kind of rare and apocalyptic event. Shit happens constantly, it's a minor nuisance to adjust the design the work with a different chip. You're talking an afternoon of work.
Tell me your memories of playing this classic series for the first time
Pearl was my first game and I loved it
I remember asking my mom to catch Pokemon for me because I had no idea how to do it.
I got Blue for christmas, I think 1998.
A week later there was this HUGE storm in my country, there hasn't been a storm as big since.
So all power was cut, and I was desperately trying to get some moonlight by the window while it was storming outside, while I was trying to figure my out of that cave that requires the "flash" TM.
Eventually I became very autistic about the game. you could tell me a number between 1 and 151, and I could tell you the name, weight, height, name of attack and evolution and sometimes at which level they get them, etc
I must have clocked more than a thousand hours in blue and yellow. I brought the clock to the max, which is 255 hours 55 mins, in Blue, twice, and then once in Yellow, and kept playing anyway. Ended up with all 151 and all storage boxes full, with around 100 different Pokémons at lvl 100, including prior evolution of the same Pokémon.
I played quite a few other sequels but never got into them as I did B/R/Y
What is /vr/'s opinion of Blue Stinger?
