Anybody here ever used one of these jackets or a heated jacket in general?

Would they be worth investing in for someone who works outdoors?

I'd like it as a under layer that I could turn off when I start to sweat doing labour, but they're expensive here in Canada so I don't want to wast my money if they're shit.

I dont have one, but generally they are gimmiks that dont work well. If you want to buy one of those electric powered garments, go for gloves or insoles... Your core shouldnt be hard to keep warm(unless your an idiot who dresses too light) but your extremities, regardless how well you plan, will probably get chilly.

If you really are determined to get a heated core item, grab one of those Zippo(or knock offs, at 1/8th the price) pocket warmers and use it instead. Its 10x more useful, and much easier to manage with fuel.(batteries lose their charge when cold. So when you think you really need it, it'll perform less than optimally)
>>
>>911932

They are good to put on for breaks but too warm to actually work in, I have the yellow hooded milwaukee one. The fit of American Jackets and Hoodies is bad if your not American. They are too short and balloon out in the lower torso.

>I dont have one.

Then procedes to provide an opinion on them.

Do you eat shit? Well I hope you don't try to stop someone from eating shit, cause you'll look like such a silly fool, speaking like an ignorant retard. I mean clearly you need to have eaten shit before you can realize eating biological waste is/isn't a bad idea.

Ticks, and how to prevent them.

>be me
>go hiking with dog
Dog has preventative measures such as tick control necklace, and is washed every week.

>come back full of ticks
>take shower, shower dog

Now every day for the past month I've been encountering these fuckers at home. I've cleaned, fumigated, washed my clothes. Yet they keep coming.

Did you check your anal cavity?

wash body with vinegar, also clean the rags & bedding with vinegar. Keep the windows open & rooms cold.

If that doesn't help or you don't trust in vinegar, then buy an insect-fogger.

Had flees in my room & only this with couple of traps could get rid of them.
Remember that you'll then have to stay out of the room(s) you fogged and keep the window's open for atleast 6h. Considering anons and his' dogs health, I would even leave them open for a bit longer.

Stop what you're doing and watch this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEG-ly9tQGk

Lars Andersen has worked hard to debunk the Hollywood myths of modern archery, and it pays to learn what they are and how to avoid them yourself. Modern archery teaches that you need THINGS to be good, compound bows that are dangerous and expensive, fiber optic sights that won't make you a better shot, stabilizers that build in you bad habits. THESE ARE NOT THINGS THE BEST ARCHERS OF THE PAST USED. Lars scoured ancient texts to rediscover the knowledge lost to time, to corporate meddling, to help the archery community as a whole return to their practical and useful roots.

Things will not make you a better archer, practice, dedication, learning the lessons of those before you and applying them to your training, these will turn you into an archer of old proper capability.
>>
>>910874

There're a few things. If I were you, I'd get a real bow, be it longbow or recurve (you seem like you're going the trad route). Entry level is fine and second hand is fine.

Learn the basics of form - i.e. bow hand grip and correct bow arm rotation, drawing with the back/holding with back tension, find your anchor point and how release. Youtube isn't bad for this.

I'd also pick a shooting system and stick to it for the moment, e.g. I personally shoot 3-under with a high anchor point and gap shoot (JImmy Blackmon explains the system pretty well on Youtube).

You should also develop a bit of a technical understanding of trad archery i.e. arrow spine and the factors that go into and and how this relates to tuning a trad bow. Basically, an arrow needs to bend a bit when its shot to fly straight. Arrows come in different stiffnesses (spine). If you're a right-handed shooter with the arrow on the left side of the bow (where the shelf will be cut), an arrow thats too stiff won't bend enough and will deflect left off the bow. Too weak, it'll bend to much and tend off right. Greater arrow length, greater draw length, more draw weight and heavier points make an arrow bend more or "act weaker" when shot. Shorter arrows, less point weight, shorter draws and lighter points mean an arrow will bend less when shot. There's more to it you can read up on, but that's the basics.
>>
>>911043

Also, don't fuck around with bad arrows. Pick a carbon shaft you want to use (e.g. Gold Tip Hunters - midweight, good quality, not terribly expensive), mock one up on the 3rivers spine calculator and get some made at your local archery store.

You'll have some durable arrows that fly more consistently than you can shoot them, which will let you get on with the business of working on your shooting.

I met my current gf hiking. I was solo in algonquin interior. She saw my canoe stopped by. We chatted. She was talking about how shitty the other sites were. I said she could throw her tent up in my area. We spent the night by the fire drinking (brought some burbon) watching the stars. We didn't fuck that night but hey anything is possible /out/

I'm building my "arsenal".
I have currently packed:
A hatchet, a first aid kit, a canteen, a whistle, a small 2" barrel .22LR revolver, 70 rounds of CCI Minimags, fishing line and hooks, 1.5l leather canteen bag thing, a road flare, a Leatherman multi tool and a spare Gerber BG2.
I need a primary knife and any other things the more experienced /out/ members have to add.
/k/ seems to hate Gerber knives for some reason.

I'm not really worried about dying, I kinda hate contemporary society and this is preferential to a bullet through my head.

I was wondering what tips you guys could give me.

I wear glasses right now, and I was wondering if it would be worth it to get surgery or just trust that I won't lose or break them.

Only going once a year, don't want to spend too much. What brand should I buy? cheap brand or pro brand but low end goggles?
any suggestion /out/ ?

try and look for a goggle that has interchangeable lenses and fits your face and nose properly. Goggles are one of those things that you can cheap out on but imo you shouldnt. A good pair will save you the frustration of fogging up or not being able to see anything cause you cant change your lense. I would personaly recomend the Smith I/O

I would buy two pairs of cheap ones if you're only using them once a year.
If one ices up/freezes/fogs out, swap for the 2nd.
Dual-pane lenses are a must.
Auto parts stores sell 3-pack microfiber cloths - grab a pack of those and keep one in your pocket and another in your pack.

I carry two or three goggles on my sled, but I have a cubby on the dash that's vented underhood, a totally frozen/fogged set of goggles will defrost in about 20mins of riding from the heat in there.
Usually have a pair of clear/untinted in my pack if I get stuck out after dark. Sometimes I just take a set of clear lenses.

I buy the more expensive higher-end goggles, because they're the only ones that fit my face/helmet well and don't ice out. Most days I can go without swapping them out if it's not a total shit-weather day.
The cheap ones leak or fit weird, and ice out in a few hours of riding.

Giro is a solid cheap brand, thats what I used before I really got into snowboarding. There are tons of diy antifog solutions online, you'll want to check them out.

I prefer the colourful stuff. Especially for winter clothes. When everything around you is just white its nice to have some colour
>>
>>908973
I prefer subtle colours for most things, but if there's a good deal on good gear, then I'll use whatever colour.

That's why my tent has a neon yellow fly. I hate it's look, but it's a great tent

You're not going to get far as a neet farmer. Handshakes, morning coffee gatherings, knowing everyone who farms and everything they're doing, good relationships with neighbors, regularly visiting landlords, maintaining contact with the USDA office, knowing the guys at the elevator/market....if you think you can be a farmer and not talk to people you don't know shit about farming.

Definitely access to the archipelago. It is absolutely beautiful and opens up a lot of options to have a good time /out/. Expensive tho since you basically need a boat. I guess renting a kayak is the cheapest way to go into the archipelago. Therefore it's mainly populated by rich people.

>do they work?

yes

>as a single tool option?
yes, as long as you bring a second knife.

What most people forget, is that a kukri is supposed to come with a kards - a small "companion" knife for doing all the stuff a kukri will have problems with.

You can chop with a kukri, and process food with it (no intricate carvings, but still), but if you want to make small notches (like a pot holder, or tent stake), you should use a smaller knife - that's why kukris have them, though most commercial ones have a shitty karda at best.

What is a good way to fight lantana?
A friend of mine owns 100 acres in south east QLD, Aus, with part of the forest on it and it's full of lantana. As far as we can tell there's no government subsidies to help buy roundup or anyting, we've taken a lot out around a camp area but it just creates a fence around the forest. It's not really too leafy for chemicals to work anyway, plus it's hot right now so snakes.

Anyway, any tips or advice would be awesome. Don't have a picture of it unfortunately. Just imagine a forest and lantana in it.
