Hey guys, I'm a NEET living in Ontario and I want to go camping solo on some crown land. I've never went solo camping before or winter camping and I have no equipment but I have been camping before I got 350$ for Christmas.
I have a list here from amazon of what I think would cover me for solo camping. I would start with just one night overnight at first.
1DGE1XW1NCWR <-- amazon buy list
Is this enough for me to survive? My main concern is the sleeping bag. That one is rated for -15C and seems a good deal for the price but maybe its not good enough for Ontario winter nights?
Any other recommendations on what I would need to bring with me? Also if you guys tell me to go camping with a friend first that is not an option because I have no friends and I am gonna do it regardless
I can't figure out how to use those letters, just post the link.
> I am gonna do it regardless
Clearly you have no fucking idea what you're doing considering you need help with just the bare basics, so if you're going to ignore not only the advice of outdoor enthusiasts who know what they're doing, but also common sense, I suggest you start in your backyard or 50 yards into the woods, not in the backcountry.

I don't have a backyard I live in the city and rent a room.
I'm not ignoring your advice, I literally made this thread asking for advice, but if youre just gonna say "don't do it" I'm just saying I'm gonna do it anyways
Ok this topic might be a bit odd , but I am going to be camping on a remote desert beach for almost a month.
Where is the best place to poo?
Is there some etiquette or some environmental protocol?
A quick search on google gives jokes and fetish sites but no useful info.
>>919208
I just dig a latrine up on the dunes when I beach camp. feed the grass.
>>919218
A new latrine every day or one for the whole time then bury it after?
I would feel a bit weird if some hikers came by and saw my filthy poo hole.
If I can find a secluded enough spot thought this is probably ideal
>>919221
I normally fill mine in, but I rarely beach camp for long. if I was staying a month I would just leave it, but throw sand over every other turd or so.
most beach hikers don't go into the dunes so I wouldn't worry.
Is this a good jacket for winter walks?
I will be using this in central Europe in temperatures ranging from -10 to +10°C (263,15K to 283,15K)

I need a new cookstove for travel and trying to decide between butane and propane.
Any opinions here?
>>918746
rocket stove obviously
personally, i'd get an adapter so I could use both fuels
>>918746
if it's for travel in a vehicle just get a coleman propane stove. they are popular with the car camping crowd for a reason. 40 bucks, 2 burners, easy to clean and the green canisters can be found anywhere for cheap.
>>918754
Any asian market has butane stoves for 20 bucks and the canisters are 4 for 5 bucks

Remember, after December 25th, winter is nothing but a cold hell until April!
Still waiting for help with the beginner guides on the Pastebin. I put a little saltwater one in there, but I want to do a river one possibly. Skid typed up a saltwater guide so enjoy the autism and CAbaymang just did a trout one.

Chuck Norris would land it. And he isn't imaginary like your "God"

>What do you use to extend the fly past the hook? Is it just the stem(¿) of the feather?
>>918082
>I think it's a small bundle of wire tied to the hook to extend the body. A lot of people do it with cocktail for extended body mayflies
The black stuff is a large diameter, "Elastic Hair Band". I inserted a long needle/bodkin into it during the tying process then removed it when I was done. Now it can bend and move.

Building my first BOB/INCH bag and I'm wondering about taking care of my teeth.
What's a good dental hygiene option? Long-term or natural? I realize frontiersmen probably didn't fret as much, but it's worth looking into.
>>918106
Baking soda. I carry one small gatorade bottle filled with the stuff and use it as toothpaste, deodorant and sometimes seasoning on fish when I forget to pack regular salt.
>>918106
Tea tree oil if you Wana go natural.
Dilute first
ash/coal from the fire - obviously cooled. Tastes like shit but it'll help remove stains from your teeth
Going on a hiking trip in a few weeks to the forested mountains of patagonia (pic related). The plan is to walk for 10 hours through the forest and then return to the hotel.
Take into account that this is the southern hemisphere, so summer here.
What should I bring in my backpack? So far I figured this.
>Jacket
>Towel
>Sandals (for river crossing)
>2 liters of water
>Termus with soup (and spoon to eat it)
>Crackers
>Medkit (gasse, paper tape and desinfectant)
>Spare socks (thanks Lt. Dan)
>Flashlight
>Swiss army knife
>Hat
>Sunscreen
>Bug repelent
Am I missing something?

Map, compass maybe
A rope is always a good idea.

This.
I am thinking about setting up a survival bag to be ready in case I ever need it for whatever reason.
What would be a good bag? I was thinking about this one.

I have also been gathering items for a bob and have been looking for a bag. Hope this is a good thread
Hi /out/. I'm from nyc and I recently moved upstate to a very woodsy area. I love hiking but Everytime I come across people in the woods I dont feel I can trust them.
I think this has something to do with living in the ghetto for some time. And getting into conflict with other people.
What do you guys do? How friendly should one be?
A lot if these mountian foll r really nice but they are hard to read cuz they're pretty rough looking.

Why is this board filled with buy fags? Half the people here are fat Americans who spend their days wasting their far too large disposable income on useless stuff and posting about it on the internet. Some even reached the Anti-american absurd of using grams to measure weight just to look "pro". I bet 60% of this board never went /out/
>>915485

Stop being some kind of weirdo anti-elitist, downwardly mobile poorfag.
You're probably not even euro.

Where do you want to live, and what's stopping you?
I wanna live in on Pitcairn Island, but I would miss my family terribly and I have no idea what I'd do for work there. Also, I'd miss having decent internet with which I can shitpost and I don't have a lot in savings with which I could move there and build a house.
>>915289
what a coincidence
also wanted to move there
or maybe colonise henderson island

If you are in the USA, try the Peace Corps.
You can live and work in some of the pacific islands for a few years. You don't get paid much, but your living expenses are taken care of while on assignment and you can get connected to the locals if you decide to stay.

Where can I buy a chrome plated axe like this? Can't seem to find one even on the web.
>>913590
>I can't take an axe head to a plating house
God forbid you want something with powder coat or anodized.
>>913590
just got to your neighbors chrome bumper and swing a regular axe at it until enough chrome rubs off on your axe.
>>913590
>ceremonial chrome axe
>never needs sharpening
Fucking brilliant!
What does /out/ wear in the winter?
I just recently got a Gerry trilayer coat and it's niiice. Holds up to the negative degree Fahrenheit weather we get in WI and looks/fits well. Better than any North Face or anything I've worn.
I also wear a scarf and hat knitted by my mother but am looking for some glove recs.
LL Bean union suit, milsurp thermal bottoms, German milsurp insulated boots, wigwam socks, Magellan pants, generic balaclava, Kinko Axeman mittens. I haven't been cold in three years.
>>913348
Edit: forgot my fleece pullover and Berne work coat.
>>913348
OP here, I also wear the union suit along with alpaca wool socks and palladium boots. I need some gloves though, for walking around I have some of those fingerless gloves that have a mitten flap that folds over, but those are also alpaca wool and not ideal if I actually need to work with my hands
well whats going on in dakota? do you already help the people there?
/out/'s should send them blankets.

interesting...
This is fundamentally a huge property rights issue. Nothing to do with environmentalism imo.
