Decent gun aside from the bolt feel. You don't get great feedback and it can be easy to short stroke and not strip your next round off the mag. Other than that it's functional.

Ruger is usually a good choice. I'd personally save up for a weatherby vanguard as it's guaranteed sub moa and price starts at about 600$

My Krag rifle is 110 years old and would require rebuilding to fit a scope. I want to own an original more than I want to use it like a modern weapon.

A couple of my pistols are also antiques. I have a holster for them but not because I ever plan on carrying them - it's because the holsters are original for the guns and are antiques in themselves.

Cracks on a part that reinforces against recoil isnt a good sign man dont risk bolt-face

STOP USING IT!
Bring it to a gunsmith or get a completely new bolt.

Disassemble the bolt and look if there are other cracks that you couldn't see otherwise.
And like people here already said, dont shoot it until a gunsmith has taken a look
