Looking for input and criticism on what I did with this old Marlin I got for free
Sanded and ready to paint
Primed with rustoleum bbq grill paint to prevent further rusting
Put back together with a $50 stock I bought (the wood stock broke in half when I took the screws out, you can see it in the sanded picture)
Taken apart again, ready to paint with brownells alumna Hyde, epoxy based gun finish
Closer look, didn't paint this part with the grill stuff
Other side
One side of the trigger guard (can post other side if requested)
Finished project, may need a touch up
You did ok all things considered. I would've hot salt blued it but most people aren't set up for that. That stock is atrocious. I would've got another wood one.
Ended up with an orange peel finish, followed all instructions and read forums on aluma Hyde and it still turned out like this. Had to clean paint can nozzle every half a coat and reheat can, I think it looks nice though

agreed.
but anyway, good job OP, have fun shooting it.
This is how the finish should have looked

Well, in the end, it's your gun and fuck what other people think. Since you asked, though, I'm not a fan of that stock. All in all, though, if it keeps it shooting when it would otherwise not, then so be it.
With red dot sight

The stock was cheaper than a wood stock, has a lifetime warranty and the comfort and extra stability ut gives makes it worth the sub par looks. If you guys could hold it and shoot it you would understand. Also thanks for the input

Not doing a thing with the action?
This project all together costed me roughly 120 USD including the red dot sight. For a reliable rifle that will last beyond my lifetime I don't think it's a bad investment

as someone who occasionally searches for wood marlin stocks, i get it (youd think they would be cheaper than they are). i also get that the gun was free and you dont want to put more money than necessary into it. its just ugly imo.

No sir, I like the way it shoots now and I am a novice so tinkering with the guts for me is out of the question until I do more research

Thanks for the input man, i didn't really like the look of the stock when i first got it either, they didn't show pictures of the stock on the gun on the site I bought it from, but after holding it I realized why they built it that way and the aesthetics grew on me from there

Does it have a two piece feed throat? Or is it newer with one piece throat and the spring wire ejector?

It has a two piece feed

That's the older style. They work great until the throat wears out. Nice.
