>Like guns a lot
>Really want them to look nice
>Always put stupid fucking scratch in them or something

>Actually pissed off about scratches that haven't happened yet on a gun I don't even own yet.
How the fuck do I escape scratch autism, /k/?

I treat the look of firearms how I like the look of guitars. Like musical instruments firearms are meant to be used. Most really good musicians have guitars that have substantial wear- because they have practiced with that instrument so much that the wear is inevitable. When I go to the range and shoot with my buddies most of them have worn handguns because they have put 1,000s and 1,000s of rounds through those firearms. So think of scratches, blemishes, and imperfections as badges of honor- because it shows that you practice your discipline, and can probably "out play" most with a brand new instrument.
>>33550405
Pretty much this. I sued to obsess over scratches and nicks until I really started using my guns more. Then I realized that the marks are basically unavoidable when you're using "working" firearms as intended. The wear and tear means I'm putting time in at the range and getting good.
There is nothing sexier than honest wear. Embrace it.
Hey /k/, I was given a Marlin Model 39A that my uncle had laying around and had no use for. I took it to the range, and it kept failing to extract rounds after firing. The extractor looks like its fine, and the rifle doesn't seem to have any major problems. Should I send it in for repair to Marlin? How much would you think that would cost? Is it worth to repair or should I just sell it and buy some new rifle?
>>33550135
Cleaned it?
>>33550148
Yea, though it does seem to get dirty pretty quickly, little grit from what I assume is unburnt powder comes up.
Also, can anyone suggest some public free ranges in BLM land near Pomona, CA? Only place I know of is 2 hours away in Joshua Tree.
So i got bored and was wondering if any one could point out any obvious flaws with my design besides cost of production? Would the idea work in theory or am I completely retarded?
It was a quick idea sketch so i'm sure i missed something... But would a secondary primed ignition when the bullet arrived at destination work as a grenade?
I came up with this idea after seeing the thread about a grenade launched via bow/arrow... >_> sorry I killed a thread for this and in return I would be willing to visualize via graphic any one else's ideas for new methods of cartridge delivery etc... ?
The bursting charge is going to push most of the fragments out of or away from the target. It should be located in the base of the bullet surrounded by a non-fragmenting base so that it directs more of the blast forward into the target.
>>33549889
I feel as though the bullet would fragment during the external ballistic phase quite easily. Perhaps if the projectile was simply scored instead of made of pre fragmented pieces you'd have a better effect. But in all honesty at any small projectile size you'd be losing density to the very meager explosive payload. On a larger bullet, the bullet is very easily going to kill the target without needing to explode. That being said, possible in the upper 45 to 50 caliber pistol cartridge you may get a little extra bang with a tiny explosive payload, it's just working the detonator in that'd be the huge pain. Not sure if we'll ever see 50 SAPHE rounds.
>>33549889
Largely because the main doctrine behind standard issue rifle is that the bullet hits it's intended target and penetrates/fragments fairly well. An explosive bullet of similar size might not accomplish that. Raufoss Mk 211 (.50 BMG APHE) is the size at the point where your round has some oomf to for explosive purposes. The US is currently developing a 20mm air burst grenade that does what you desire.
Basically, go big or go home.
Anyhow, thanks for the frag bullet image. Also, there's Frag-12 if that's of any interest.

Hey /k/ I've been thinking about adding a surplus carry gun to my collection, something like the CZ 82, any suggestions?
>>33549881
Nah cz 82s are probably one of the highest quality surplus pistols you can
I'm a sucker for the p.38/p.1
Thinking of getting a beretta cx4 storm with my tax refund. I have an m9 so the magazine compatibility is a plus. Anyone have experience with it? Is it any good?
>>33549706
I like the space gun aesthetic
>>33549692
it is a neat compact carbine that is at a better price point than its competitors (imo). i have heard good things about the accuracy. the only negative thing i have heard is that it is not really able to be mag dumped very quickly, but i don't think most people would care.
What's a good shotgun for hunting, up to deer or bear? Both a recommended gun and barrel length would be nice.
Remington 870 and Mossberg 500 are the 2 standards. 26" and 28" are normal lengths for bird hunting. Buy one, buy a deer slug barrel and be on your way. If you can, try to test both, see which one's controls you prefer. I grew up on an 870, so that is what I am most comfertable with.
Fucking any pump action 12g shotgun works. It's not a complicated device.
Shotgun general time?
Anyone have brand/model recommendations for bead upgrade for my 590A1 home defense shotty?
Was thinking of something like pic related so it would be easier to see at night, but not 100% as I have no experience with them.
Good improvement?

What are the ethics of fitting a shitty pitted up chinese civilian model sks for AK mags and does anyone have a good guide?
>>33549133
Is that Ryan Gosling with a sex doll?
>>33549147
Yes, did you not watch that movie?
I mean there would be no difference from a M or D execept better fitting and maybe an actual AK mag latch.
>>33549147
yep
Picked up this bad boy for 230 did I do good? Just wanted it as a conceal carry and something to carry in my car mostly.
>>33549021
>taurus
Just be sure to pack a ballistic face shield for when it blows up in your hand.
>>33549021
they're fine, both for a sub 300 dollar gun and one of the "safe" lines from taurus
>>33549033
Those are the earlier models. This model actual fixed the defects with the earlier ones.

Would it be possible/practical to make arrows with shaped charge arrowheads that could penetrate civilian tier armored vehicles?
Like a bullet proofed pick SUV or something, you know?

Depends. Green Arrow isn't always on the Justice League team. He only averages about two episodes a season.
Also no, you're dumb. Why doesn't anyone lurk before they post. You shouldn't be posting, this isn't thread worthy.

Would 7.62z39 soft points be sufficient for home defense, or am I better of getting a shotgun?
Unless you have concrete walls, 7.62 is going to exit your house.
Literally any gun designed in the last 130 years is "sufficient" for home defense. Now, as to whether it's the best choice or not, that's a different question.
>>33548605
A 7.62x39 sp round with go through 1/4 steel plating. I shot my .22 plinking target with a few chink soft point rounds from 75 yards away, had three nice round holes in it. So unless you don't care about over penetrating at point blank, find something else to shoot with.
What are some of the best self-defense weapons?
I almost get my shit stolen, had to run away from the guy.
Anyone here got mugged? what was your experience?
You should really get some situational awareness if anything. A gun will not do you any good if you're completely oblivious to your surroundings.
>>33548405
Situational awareness helped me out, he pretty much blocked my path.
Overall it was pretty obvious he was going to do something but in this case wish I had something to use.
>>33548444
Well, in that case.
>mental preparation to use deadly force
>a fucking gun
My friend wondered why we don't use watercooled miniguns after a movie scene where a guy cuts cars in half with sustained fire trying to walk shots into the good guys. He told me some guy in the military told him a story about how he overheated one in training and the barrel got fucked up. He insisted that it'd be an "evolution" in gun design to cool miniguns with a vehicle's cooling system for sustained fire and that controlled bursts are just the military being told to baby equipment.
I don't really know much about how the military actually fights, but it seems like it'd be a really unnecessary change for something that isn't a big problem in the first place. What are the logistical/practical concerns preventing it?
>>33548288
>cool miniguns with a vehicle's cooling system for sustained fire
Dead in the water. They're not going to destroy engines just to keep a gun cool when the gun doesn't need cooling beyond air cooling to do its job.
>>33548288
>Some guy in the military told him
Sounds legit. I've fired rifles until the barrel has glowed red hot. Like a sith Lords lightsaber. It takes a fucking lot to warp a barrel. Not saying it's not possible, but I've never seen it happen.
>>33548288
Probably wouldn't even need that man. A closed system unattached from the vehicles cooling system would be sufficient. The only problem I see is how do you get a water jacket around a set of rotating barrels without leaks or just another seal to maintain.
