Behavior gains thread.

New consensus is that all addictions are regulated by reward centers in the brain and dopamine. Google it and find a million articles.

So how are you doing with the habits? This includes starting good habits as well as stopping bad habits.

Personally I'm starting to:
>exercise more
>eat healthier
>manage money more responsibly

and stopping:
>reduced porn and fapping, had a lapse recently but I'm hopping back on the train
>reduced smoking, using a vape
>drink less booze

I'm 32 years old, night shift nurse, I take anti depressants and drink too much. I weigh 265 and it's all in my fat gut due to food and stress.

I have to make a change. I can do the diet solo, but what bodyweight exercises are good for your core (and everything else). I don't have enough time to hit the gym (nightshift full time 5 days a week, supporting 3 year old son and stay at home mom, in school full time for masters in nursing).

I'm tired of being the noodle armed gut guy at work. I've tried the diet thing alone but it doesn't help my bloated gut.

I did about 4 months of SS back when I was in school, and got major gains in squats and deadlifts, but my upper body has always been pathetic.

I'm going to try and Google a diet plan and bodyweight regime now, but thought I'd ask here because you guys know better than Google, worth a shot guess?

Thanks in advance for the help!

if time is that much of an issue (protip:it isn't, you're just wasting time somwhere), buy a treadmill or those bicycle like thing and set up at your home, and do HIIT. additionally buy some weight adjustable dumbbells, a bench and do curls,db bench, shoulder press and what have you. you can do all this at home.since you're a nurse i assume you got some money to buy equipment.

if you wanna hit the gym just do GSLP with some accessories to fix your weakpoints.

Really, dude? And you say you're taking your M.ScN? This is like smoking when you've got emphysema.

What are your shifts like? Are you on a 12 or 8 hour line? I work as a nurse too, and I have to say a 12 hour line is a lot better (for me) to fit in the gym and activities, since I've got more days off of work.

>supporting 3 year old son and stay at home mom
I get that child rearing is important, but you can't expect to be mentally and physically well if you're balancing school and work full time, while wifey stays at home.

You need to do something, anything involving exercise. It most likely won't make you lose your gut immediately, as you won't have the time or energy. Start small, buy a bike and cycle everywhere.
For upper body do pushups, buy dumbbells and do whatever exercises you can. Just do something. When you fix your schedule and your life becomes more balanced you can worry about an actual routine.

Last year I dropped a lot of weight (+100lbs) and got crazy about going to the gym. Was doing some ppl with lot of added accesories (probably too much volume). I took a trip abroad, vcame back, lost motivation and haven't touched a weight in a year.

Now I'm back. I'm eating right again and I want to go back to the gym. Should I start from scratch? What routine?

breath through the diaphram, then as you feel the lungs inflate upward draw your navel inwards for good pressure and fill the upper areas of your lungs, exhale all at once with ease.

How long are you dudes resting in between sets?

For a long time I've used 2-3 minute rest periods between work sets. This basically means an awful lot of standing/sitting around and turns every workout into a 90-120 minute slog.
Yeah, it allows my muscles to rest sufficiently enough to go heavy for 5 whole work sets, but it's no longer practical for me to be having 2 hour 'workout' sessions that are mostly me just sitting on my arse doing fuck all.

Today I switched it up and took a 30 second rest between each work set, to see how much volume I could get done in a considerably smaller time frame.

MAN I HAVE BEEN MISSING OUT.

Feels like I've just worked out for the very first time. Unreal pump, almost instantaneous DOMs, workout done and dusted in a fraction of the time it usually takes...

Even with less rest I managed to hit almost every rep just as I normally would do but it was much more intense and I feel like this is a much better approach to improve strength and work capacity.
My muscles stayed 'hot' throughout the workout without that 2 minute window for them to cool down. Once I got going every set felt smoother and stronger like I got into a groove.

Anyone else make the switch? I can't believe I've wasted so much fucking time when I could have just been blasting out a more efficient workout.

Hey guys can I just lift 3 times a week and just skip cardio all together?

You can hell I did it and reached pretty strong levels but then you notice that running around a block tires you out which honestly even if you look /fit/ is just embarassing. So do some cardio not long distance runner level but at least able to run for 10km without dying
>>
It's better than doing nothing but worse than doing it together with some cardio
>>
You do too much cardio and you'll look like Kamoshida
