I found this old bike, it's ok except for the brakes that don't work. I removed them and I'm going to buy some new ones, then paint the bike.
I know nothing about the topic, should I look for something specific (both brakes and paint) or is it fine just buying random wires and a spray? Here's a pic

thats a nice toolbox/tacklebox
get rid of that stupid generator
try pulling the cable in and out and oiling it. take apart and clean the arms & spring of the brake
>>1202803
That's the first thing I did, now it's all nice and oiled, I'm going to disassemble and sandpaper it before painting the frame. Any advice on what paint I should buy? Do I have to get some specific wires for the brakes (the ones I have are rusty) or I can get any generic resistent wires?
I made a picture frame for my gf which she wants to hang on the wall. Obviously its not perfectly balanced because im a hack.
How do I find the perfect spot to drill it in so it doesnt hang crooked? (Without drilling a dozen test holes?)
Use picture wire.
german engineering at its finest
Hang it from your dick and walk out naked to your gf, shouting 'SUCK IT IT'S PICTURE PERFECT!'
got an lg flattron W1943TE monitor but lost the power supply for it a long time ago, was wondering if there was a cheap makeshift solution to this as a new power supply from ebay costs about 16$, was thinking of maybe opening up the monitor and connecting a different power supply with similar voltage directly, or perhaps if i could find just the jack for the monitor and hook it up myself to a new power supply, any help would be appreciated /diy
>the jack connection looks like pic related
>>1203390
1. check Ebay for the actual thing.
2. find out the specs. if they are not on the monitor case, they should be on the power adapter so ask someone with the same to look at theirs; you might need to know the polarity; usually the outer part is ground but not necessarily.
3. if your new adapter has the wrong plug, you can hard wire it or buy parts to put a new jack and or plug on. The DC voltage has to be correct, and the amperage has to be the same or higher.
>>1203394
oops, you already did the ebay thing. sorry about that.
>>1203390
find a jack that fits usually the size is relative to its capacity.
then just splice it to the new ps
you can of course open it desolder the jack and solder the wires directly everything should be fine unless you swap the wires or use the wrong voltage
Want to cut a mirror for a table, pic related is what I've done. How can I alternatively cut glass?
>>1203142
A glass cutter just puts stress on the glass as it rolls over it. You oil the wheel to prevent friction against the glass. The wheel is metal and while not sharp, it does come to a point. The wheel is key for making the score line. That is the rolling motion, not sliding motion is the key. Anything that does that can cut glass, just practice on some scrap first.
As for actual alternatives? A grinding wheel on a Dremel. You'd need to use a flow of water over it to prevent glass dust and heating. Practice lots and take proper breaks for your hands and for the tool to cool.
I highly suggest you buy a glass cutter. They are extremely cheap and super easy to use.

Glass can score glass

clamp a board across the length you need and snap the excess off. It will fracture along the board
How would I go about attaching a bike flag to my jeep grand cherokee? I bought one of those tall bike flags at walmart for when I hit the trails so anyone else can see if I'm on the trail. However, I'm finding it difficult to attach to my cherokee because I can't figure out how to relialably mount it. Any help is appreciated. The bottom "mount" is similar to pic related and I'm going to be attaching another flag on the pole. The mount isn't even a mount, it's basically a metal plate the flag itself sits in and the metal is bent slightly inward to keep it in.
>>1203118
attach it to a piece of bar stock, then use U bolts to attach bar stock to roof rack runners.
alternatively, you could drill into bumper mount, but i'm guessing you aren't capable of doing that.
>>1203121
That's a good fucking idea to attach it using a bar stock, I was playing around with the idea of attaching it to a piece of pipe and using hose clamps but your idea seems much more stable.
I also thought about using the hitch but that'd be a waste if I needed to tow someone or myself out of a ditch. Thanks for the help anon
>>1203118
Just zip tie it to anything that fits
I have a defective trunk and light seal on my s type. What kind of waterproof caulk can I use to properly hold the new seals in place and prevent water from getting in there. Preferably in a black color.
I apologize but I thought you would know better than >>>/o/
>>1203097
Any caulk at HD. It's literally all the same. I don't know about black, but you can get gray.
>>1203098
I am sorry to have to ask but can you spoon feed me a link?
>>1203099
Only if you promise to ask every person you see in your hardware store for a big black caulk.

protip: torx bits make for wonderful extractors especially for small things
>>1202641
Did you have to bang it in to get it to bite?
>>1202675
yeah but of course you want the hole to be a little smaller than the bit so it bites hard into the material
>>1202688
same concept with 12 point sockets and lug nuts, works like a charm but saved for last resort
Would this really work as described? It makes sense to me, but I'm curious about how much friction/resistance would really be negated by driving on three wheels.
>>1202474
That reminds me of someone who claimed they lost a front wheel but managed to drive across town to get home.
>>1202474
Not much. The car would still eight the same so the amount of weight going to the other three ties would be the same. You'd also have to worry about the pressure in your tires. Normal tire pressure expects 4 tires on the road. If you only have three then they might end up 'underinflated' for the weight they are supporting and that can increase rolling resistance even further.
>>1202474
<-wheel, middle, balanced = wurks
your pic, wheel off-centre, weight unbalanced = vehicle weight rests on 4 wheels anyway, negating remainder of 'advantages'
>>1202482
you can drive a fair distance on a flat, modern run-flat on a decent car, you wont even notice. Different to losing a wheel entirely tho.
I have started to grow fruit bushes and trees but the birds have gotten to them for the most part.
Right now I don't mind because they amuse me but in future I might want to harvest the fruit, in which case 'll want to keep the birds off.
Obviously I can put nets around stuff but does anyone have any fun or novel methods that they use?
Get a cat
>>1202338
Probs will at some point as they are also amusing.
We have loads of cats around here already though and the bastards always shit in my lawn. The birds don't seem to care.
Besides, I'd still like them to come and eat seeds I put out, just not my fruit.
>>1202321
I hang old cds with fishing line in my fruit trees. The sun hits and reflects off them and scares the birds. Also aluminum pie tins work well too.
Hey /diy/, long time no see
Can anon point me in the direction of where I can download a pdf version of the manufacturers maintenance manual for a Gardner marine diesel engine?
Cheers
you've started work then?
>>1202299
I'm a captain of small vessels who's doing my marine engine driver ticket at the moment
I don't have an engine manual at home though
>>1202294

Can't think of a better board to ask this question on except maybe /adv/
How can I package and ship ice cream within the lower 48? I did a test with a very cold frozen mixture (-20F~) and 3lb of dry ice in a loosely sealed styrofoam container and the dry ice did not last 24 hours. Is the solution just more dry ice or is there a better container I can use?
better/more insulation, simples
>>1201939
Try sealing it properly?
How thick was the polystyrene? Thicker the better.
But yeah there's a reason they use refrigerated trucks usually
>>1201945
Can't due to pressure concerns by the post office and the container is about an inch thick
Hey there guys, I'm having a bit of a problem here. I just bought some razer kraken USB 7.1 headset, and they seem not to work at all. I plug it into the pc and it won't register or anything, no sound no lighting mic, nothing. So I opened it up and tried to see for my self; here's a picture of the inside.
So the red wire supplies power and sound, the green wire is for the lighting on the side of the headset, and mic.
>>1201433
return it and get another one
>>1201436
I got it second hand, from damn goodwill lol. I was just wondering if it could be fixed?
So I wanted Bluetooth on my 25 year old car's stereo.
What I did was I spliced a 12v output from the tape decks motors (the ones that make the casettes spin where there's a tape inserted), soldered them to a car to USB adapter, and soldered the output from the USB's 3,5mm jack to a spot on the tapedeck's main board where I could find audio playing.
Now my crude setup has a werind humming sound and pops and clicks in the background wich are OK but a little unnerving in between songs.
How would you improve my setup? Take into account the BT module only activates when there's a tape inserted in the deck, I have a black tape just for that purpouse, that way the deck still plays tapes and has all it's functionalities intact
>>1201095
Disable the tape head maybe
>>1201095
>12v output from the tape decks motors
There's your problem
That's an unregulated electric motor feed, and has no noise canceling circuit. It will draw dynamo noise to all hells and back. Not to mention the tape head running in the background collecting all sorts of ambient electromagnetic interference (just like a real tape deck, who would've thought)
>>1201107
Even though it's going into a 12v converter?
I should probably relay that shit right?
How to make non-wooden screw driver handles?
I have some ideas:
>use a metal pipe filled with epoxy like thing and place the head
>make a mold and fill with epoxy like thing
but what would be the best material?
Carbon. Less air resistance means you can screw faster. Faster, faster oh my god, faster.
>>1201028
how?
Just get some PLA.
I'm working on making pic related but cardboard, however this fucker is gonna be huge, like 15 feet wingspan huge.
I'm doing this because the nearest homedepot is like two towns away and I want to make this thing dirt cheap.
My current idea is to just have multiple layers of cardboard and ductape/skewer them together.
Thoughts?
>>1200519
Use fiberglass resin on the outside and wood glue to glue laminate it, if you must use cardboard.
I'm sorry, but this is a pretty ludicrous idea
>>1200523
Not a real plane which i plan to fly in, a remote control one
