what is this type of table top called - where instead of one solid piece of wood it's a bunch of small pieces joined together?

It's also ~$25+ a linear foot (24" wide). Has anyone built their own before? It seems like you just need a planer, wood glue, and a lot of clamps.

I'm thinking in starting to get knowledge in draftsmanship and schematic drawings before starting any actual craft/hobby but I haven't found much solid content...Can you guys indicate me books/sites/whateaver on the subject

I want to get into a mechanical parts casting hobby, for the matter. I'm also researching about that. Im getting interested in woodworking lately... I think I misused the term craft when i made the post. It's not serious/professional but it would still be a very interesting skill to have when making precision projects

that's pretty much it
for hobby level stuff it's self-explanatory

I would like to apply some custom text to a jacket of mine as it is currently completely black. Had it been a leather jacket or something maybe i could have sewed it but its some sort of plastic-y fabric methinks. Thats why im unsure about doing it with patches since the heat might fuck the plastic. Anyone ever done something like that? Pic related, basically the type of jacket im using

You could have googled this you damn retard.

Hello /diy/nosaurs!

I found myself searching for some nice ideas about hobby work / projects i can realize at home. The thing is i am looking for something i can do with my things / material given, but that doesnt mean it is not possible to buy required things etc.

To understand what this is all about i will tell you what i am exactly looking for:

I am an electrician and got access to several tools and materials, also i got a lot of computer / network components and the possibility to build a workshop for my project.

I am looking to build something like a machine which requires network stuff and computers, maybe something like a computer-based metal punch or something in this direction.

I want to build a whole functioning machine.
Also now you got the possibility to show and discuss hobbys / projects you are doing right now!

>Hello /diy/nosaurs!

ahh yes, that false familiarity.

If you have been here more than 2 days, you know that open-ended shitfests like this thread do not belong here.

So you are an electrician (meaning you can tell red from black or white) but you are eager to "build" things that incorporate "network stuff" and computers, an maybe even a metal punch.

Where do you idiots come from? A fucking metal punch? Network stuff?

Post your pic, OP. Please post your timestamped pic and you will go down in /diy/ history.

Pretty please?

Planting spearmint (or another sort) instead of my weedy shitty lawn?
Hey there folks I have a house in west virginia with very little actual yardspace. The side yard is about 5 ft wide and runs to where I'd have a back yard if I wasn't butted up against a steep hill. I have close neighbors on either side who do fuck all to care for their yards.

I was wondering if it would be plausible to till up my side yard and just plant a ton of spearmint there in place of the weedy nonsense the previous owners have cultivated. I had spearmint plants as a child and I remember them being pleasant and fragrant. Nobody walks this part of the yard so I was thinking just let them grow wild on that side.

So I'm asking any garden bros if you have advice on whether this makes sense or of you suggest another neat pleasant plant to replace my weedy shit with. I worked for a lawn care business for a few years and I'm really disenchanted with a regular lawn, especially since it sees no use. I could easily Google "how to grow a mint plant" but I'm looking for more ideas or if it's even sensible.

>>
I'm interested in this because I'm going to tear up my front lawn as much as I legally can and replace it with wildflowers and random useful plants.
>>
I threw some mint seeds down at the base of a tree in the lawn and now they judt keep spreading out. Should be easy, but try to start with a blank (weed free) slate.

Alright so i need to make a 6ft long dowel rod type thing. It needs a slight taper, And needs to be strong enough to be an atlatl dart. I only have a table saw, band saw, portable belt sander and can buy sandpaper strips. Please help. I need to taper it becasue i need the shape of the dart like that. Any methods to do that will be amazing.

You're going to need a hand plane or block plane. Crappy ones are cheap and should be available at local hardware stores. The shooting board you can make with your table saw and a 2x4.

Why not get that lead dick annon to make some dick tips for your arrows?
>>
>>1201292
taper is easy with bandsaw, just build a shooting board for it.
make a c frame of wood to hold the dart, with holes drilled on each side slightly offset to create the taper.
mount belt sander upside down in wood frame. run dart across it, turning slightly with each pass, until it has a uniform taper. then hand sand smooth

Anyone ever tried these? Would they work underneath a 3mm layer of plexiglass?

I've seen people use capacitive sensors on plexiglass with mixed results, check this out:

I guess it'll be ok as long as you keep the wiring short.

the motor on my rotary tattoo machine craped out. this si a picture of the original replacement part.

a buddy said I probably could get the same part way cheaper as these motors are standart parts.
however it has no markings or anything.

can you identify this motor ?

the site says it's japanese
the model is stealth rotary

Why don't you start by measuring it.

Then use the googles to find a match based on quantitative information rather than qualitative information. It'll be way more effective.

I'm looking for plans to build my own lawson chair, which is the closest I can find to what Barnes & Noble used to have in their stores for people to sit and read.

The chairs are expensive to buy so I'm looking to build my own. I'm having a very hard time finding plans, though. If anybody knows where to find them, I would really appreciate a link or two.

Thanks

OP here, bamp for justice.

It's been hard finding plans for sofas and other furniture for living rooms. There's tons of plans for informal stuff.
>>
>>1200765
It sounds like you should be looking more at upholstery than at the woodworking side of it. Not being a smartass, but the... carcase?... doesn't really matter as much as you think it does. It really is like the difference in a normal cat and a shaved cat, you wouldn't think it's even the same animal. I'm pretty sure the woodworking part can be very beefy (ugly) and they just use screws and slap it together: as long as it's tough it's doing its job. If you want to get crazy you could go to an apartment complex on garbage day, find a couch or what have you on the curb, and rip it apart to see. Do NOT bring it into your house though.

What can I do with NFC stickers?

Also I do have an Android. It's a Galaxy S7
>>
The most useful utility that I can think of would be a set of keycodes for your house, but only your imagination can limit you here. Personally I use NFC stickers with Tasker to launch a set of apps and a special playlist when I drive off, and one to turn on the lights and turn on the computer when I return home.

Namely the frame. How do the motors drive the legs and what kind of motors are used? I could see linear guides or wheels being used to guide the legs and keep them from wobbling.

I'd Frankenstein a broken office chair hydraulic cylinder and a normal desk, but most of these things use two opposing tracks that mesh with a gear that's mounted onto the motor. Easy enough to have the same setup opposing it and a bearing set for the second gear. Then it's just a case of a circuit that can reverse the current to the motor.
>>
It may be easier and definitely cheaper to make gear assembly and crank to raise/lower instead of motor powered.
>>
>>1200622
Wouldn't most hydraulics be way too short for a standing desk? Hell, they'd be short for a regular desk. My chair has like 5" of movement

>>1200649
If you have the crank wouldn't you just need a motor to move the crank?
