Some how my pronterface is showing 96-100°C without hotend turned on to heat, i changed some day ago hotend to v6 direct, werks well, but it did not started right then but some day after this. Have no idea why, resistor meter is showing same ohms like the old one! It showing this even when i pull termistor wire out of reprap motherboard.
But it heating correctly about to 202°C and it is printing well enough. Can you tell what happened? Pic not mine but same old shit. But works after all.

i don't see a schematic for the v6 hotend on google but assuming the heating element is being pwm'd by a switch i see three possibilities. one is that the switch controlling the heating element is damaged and leaking. another is that it's inadvertently being run at a low duty cycle by bad code. the third is that the gate or base circuitry of the switch is being pulled weakly to one rail by contaminants on the board.

measure the resistance across the switch when everything is off. it should be 100k+. if not you have a broken switch. otherwise measure the voltage across the heater when the system is on but not heating. it should be near zero. if it's not then the switch is fine. use the duty range on your multimeter (if you have one, otherwise voltage) to measure between the gate and source (base and emitter) of the heater switch. should be 0% or <100mV. if duty isn't zero it's a software issue. if the voltage is above that level and your board's not contaminated then the problem gets interesting.

if none of that is wrong then just kill yourself or something.

it's stooopid coz you gotta be real careful with it so jack doesnt break. ideally you should be able to rip them off your head, and throw them on a hook in a single fluid motion, like jack might do with his hat.

Hey so I'm trying to do some welding in garage, it's mostly brick but there's a few posts that are timber (which hold up the garage doors) which is one of only spot I have space to weld.

is it unsafe to weld near any timber at all like this, or is it fine as long as I just check obviosuly nothings burning? atm I just laid some sheet metal against it kind of covering it and was welding near floor level
i see people welding near plywood walls at mechanic and that before though and they didn't seem to worry

how far can weld spatter shoot off and travel? I'm new to welding so haven't done much yet, this is just on thin sheet metal where I'm not continuously doing a weld and most of stuff I want to weld isn't that..

I don't know how small your garage is but cover the timber with sheet metal is fine
Just check after you finished your work that nothing is cooking
>>
>>1222941
Timbers aren't all that flammable. They would need a horizontal surface for hot material to sit on to be a serious fire risk. Sheet metal should be plenty so long as there isn't a gap at the bottom where spatter can lie against the wood, and the wood itself is smooth and in good condition.

Most stick and MIG spatter stops within a few feet, but occasional bits might travel 20 feet or more, especially if the floor is sloped. TIG is generally not a spark/spatter risk. If you're doing stick or MIG, clear the area well around where you'll be welding of any flammables, especially things contacting the floor. If that's not practical, check back periodically after finishing welding to make sure that nothing is smouldering.

A bigger concern is probably ventilation. Welding fumes are bad for you, so get a fan if the open door isn't circulating the air enough.
>>
They should be fine. When I was a kid I was welding up a gokart right next to a can of gas. Make sure you have good ventilation for fumes.

Hey all,
I'm beating myself in the head trying to do this little project of mine.
In the image I have a Nautique G23 because its a boat that's similar to what I am making this for. Above there is a black tube on a plate that accumulative weighs 50lbs.

*Challenge*
How would you mount this tube to the tower?

*Rules*
1. You can't mount to the top only the sides of the tower and can't touch the top.
2. Need to be able to handles boat movements. ie, starting, stoping turns, waves, etc
3.You can't damage the boat.

I was given a small section from a maple tree that was cut down in my friends yard.
I cut the wood into planks and have them drying in my attic. I wanted to make a cribbage board from one of the smaller lengths.
>Maple tree was cut down 1 month ago.
>If the plank is 6" x 16" x 1" would I be able to use it without having the board severely warped?

1 month is too short a drying time. Come back to them in a season or 3. Google how to dry wood and learn how to set them up so they won't warp so much while drying.
>>
several woodworking books I have mention one year drying time per inch of thickness

If you've got a fuckhuge microwave capable of holding it, you could try sticking it in a plastic bag, heat up for 2min at a time, empty the water out and repeat until dry
Until then, you got a while to wait

My shitty New Orleans apartment floods every time it rains real bad. It leaks in from the kitchen door and the back door when the outside water level gets high enough. Sandbags and towels aren't working. I want to get a water pump to get rid of the standing water next time this happens, but I don't know what's appropriate for home use. At the moment me and my roommate are stuck using dust pans and a bucket. I'm thinking maybe some poly and silicone caulk will be necessary if the landlord can't get his shitty repairman out to the apartment soon enough. Any advice you can in part my way?

there is standing water outside/up against the building?
>>
>>1222779
Kinda sorta. Most of it is runoff from the neighbor's driveway, which falls into the path along the side of our duplex.
>>
>>1222812
You are living in like feet of mold.

You need more sand bags. If you still want a pump you need a generator too

Hello /diy/ I posted that I had this rusty engine to put on a bike from a late night impulse shopping venture 4 years ago.

It sat in a bin outside for years until today! I'm going to disassemble it and clean it up, and mount it on a bike that is also in need of some love

Toss the chain for sure. there's no coming back from that. Besides that.. the shitty chrome on the muffler [wasn't real clearly] just clean it off good, and use some high heat paint on it. Piston and head look good and clean, at least the sides I can see, if the gas tank has nasty rusty shit inside, just clean it good with what ever you think will work, and coat it with POR 15. the shitty china motor's carb jetting is normally really fucking off, so plan a small rejet.

but nice blogpost.

That's really what I was going for, just need the best methods to clean up the metal before reassembly. This is my first time screwing with a 2 cycle.

I found an old Sunbeam gas camping grill in the shed of a house I'm renting from and am trying to refurbish it. The pipe that leads from the gas regulator into the burner has this weird gap in the end, what gives? (Pic related.) When I found it it had aluminum foil wrapped all around this hole as a ghetto way to induce gas to flow into the burner assembly.

Why would the manufacturer leave this open, allowing gas to just escape into the air? It's not a heated part and sits outside of the body of the grill so I can probably just wrap some electrical tape around it to jury rig it into working but I'm confused as to why this "feature" exists in the first place.

Replacement burner tubes for the model of grill (Sunbeam PG230) don't seem to have the same hole in them so I have no idea what the fuck is going on here.

I want to make a cheap cleanup sink in my utility/laundry/mud room, pic related (dotted lines are proposed additions).

I don't think it would be hard to set up overall by tapping into the existing washer water supply and drain, but I wonder if I need to make the sink really tall in order to allow for gravity-fed draining. Or should I put in some kind of pump?
19 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
I'm canadian so trade requirements may vary, but for drainage all you need for height is enough for 1/4" drop per 1' off the p trap. And even that isn't necessarily mandatory.

For water supply lines, if you use PEX and sharkbites you'd be go to go.

Do you have any previous experience in plumbing? and/or own a crimping tool for PEX?
>>
>>1222588

I don't have any real experience beyond fixing toilet leaks and cleaning p traps. This seems like a simple enough job for a noob because I'm literally just going to install y-fittings at the cold water supply valve and drain and run a line for each along the wall to the sink, which is going to be a plastic basin with a supply valve at top and a drain at bottom, all sitting on a structure made from 2x4s.
>>
>>1222588

Forgot to add thanks for the info on the slope. I will look into how to work with PEX lines and sharkbite fittings

I would like to have a fabric that goes from teal to purple (see picture).
Would it be better to start with a teal fabric and apply some purple dye to it in ombre like fashion?
Or start with white do dual dying?

* was thinking of buying broadcloth cotton teal fabric.
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I don't know much about dyeing cloth but I know about mixing colours. if you dye purple over teal it will probably look kind of muddy. the middle part where the two blend probably won't look too bad, but as the purple gets stronger, the red in the purple and the green in the teal will make it look a little brownish. for the brightest colours you should start with white cloth.

I've built a Rangemaster clone. Upon connecting it to power, the pedal works, but the battery begins to get extremely hot within a minute or so of operation.

My best guess as to what the issue is would be the diode going straight to ground (I've been told this is generally good practice to avoid switch pops) and the capacitor going straight to ground (it's my understanding that I could reduce hum like this). The only thing that varies from the schematic is that the AC128 has been replaced with an A92.

Is the diode and/or capacitor the reason the battery is getting too hot? If not, what's causing it?

>>
>>1222141
I would try to determine the maximum continuous discharge current determined by the battery manufacturer and then cross reference it with your discharge C or E rating.

Yay math!
>>
>>1222141
I really hope you meant +9V not -9V.
D2 might be reversed. It can be omitted if you promise to never reverse the battery.
Q1 might be mis-connected. Different type numbers may have different pinouts. Check datasheets and ensure yours is correct.
Otherwise, start taking voltage measurements around the circuit and note them on the schematic so you have something to ponder while the battery cools down.
>>
>>1222141
this exact thing has happened to me on a pedal build before
a reversed diode to ground was the culprit

>results may vary

I need help with my DIY perfume or/and deodorant.

I'm trying to make a signature perfume and also a deodorant concoction with sandalwood, ylang ylang and lavender oils.

My first attemt was a bit failure my concoction was;

> 45 drops of sandalwood oil
> 15 cl / 150 ml / 5 oz distilled water

Yes, I know its very basic but it seemed to worked at first. How can i increase potency, duration and anti-bacterial effect?

I'm not very good with electronics. Following a DIY guide how to trick a sensor and it calls for 100-Ohm 1/2-Watt resistors. Radioshack only had 1-Watt in stock so I just got a couple of those instead.

The circuit is resistor -> diode -> resistor.

What is the difference between the 1/2-Watt resistors and 1-Watt? Will I get the same results?

Specifically this
https://www.radioshack.com/products/radioshack-100-ohm-1w-5-metal-oxide-film-resistor-2-pack

With one of these in the middle.
https://www.radioshack.com/products/1n4001-micro-1a-diodes

These are what the guide says to use.

The watt rating is for how much watts the resistor will endure before it blows up. So using a 1W resistor in place of a 1/2W is good, using a 1/4W resistor would be a no go.
