Is that a refrigerator compressor motor? It might be out of refrigerant. You can buy a tester.

Any electric water gun you have will be outgunned by Super Soaker or Stream Machine type blasters. Not even lipo can save you.

Just to ruin the seekret meme, in that thread the Anon above me was talking about, it's a reference to pro painters asking for a shot of black into white paint.

Why this is funny I have no idea.

It's funny because of /b/'s interracial cuckold fetish.

>A Toronto man who spent $550 building a set of stairs in his community park says he has no regrets, despite the city’s insistence that he should have waited for a $65,000 city project to handle the problem. The city is now threatening to tear down the stairs because they were not built to regulation standards.
>Retired mechanic Adi Astl says he took it upon himself to build the stairs after several neighbours fell down the steep path to a community garden in Tom Riley Park, in Etobicoke, Ont. Astl says his neighbours chipped in on the project, which only ended up costing $550 – a far cry from the $65,000-$150,000 price tag the city had estimated for the job.
>“I thought they were talking about an escalator,” Astl told CTV News Channel on Wednesday.
>Astl says he hired a homeless person to help him and built the eight steps in a matter of hours.

How the fuck can a city government be THIS inefficient
>>
>>1212275
That's outrageous.

I live near a small town where we do projects like this all the time. Our park infrastructure is great, and only can be because of guys like this. Is all of Canada like this? Or just the major cities?

Our town has an ordinance that say donated projects are risk free and carry no liability to the builder or town.

Please help fixing a stupid mistake.

I have put my wine bottler into a damp storage for 2 months and ended up with pic related. The bottom spring doesn't even move, whereas it should adjust when the arm is raised. The arm can be moved, but needs force applied, a lot more than usual. So that spring is also rusted.

Most important question first: what do I do to fix this and what do I use to give the metal parts a cover to protect from further rusting?

Second, is it safe to take it apart and manage the rust that way, or it would preserve the integrity of the screws to spray while it is in one piece, then take it apart and do the fine work?

Thank you in advance. I never had to deal with rust before.

So I have a bunch of this high carbon steel strap. It's all cut up into manageable sizes, not like in a giant roll. It's all painted black. I need to remove the paint and polish them up. Chemically stripping it would be great if it wasn't too caustic and didn't hurt the steel underneath. I thought about using some of those gray scotch brite pads, but before I spend any money on those I'd like to know if they'd work. Any suggestions?

What you want is an angle grinder, bench grinder, die grinder, or Dremel and attach a "Wire Wheel"--wire wheels come in varying types--some for light duty, some for heavy duty--you'll have to use your best judgement.

They are great from removing paint from metal surfaces.
>>
>>1226656
how big are the strips? what kind of paint?

toss them in a plastic container with the stripper and see what happens. i really doubt paint stripper will hurt steel.

or use a bench grinder with a wire wheel
>>
>>1226658
I'm worried that a wire wheel would leave some deep grooves that would be difficult to polish out afterward. I've never really used them though so I might be wrong.
>>1226659
The strips are a couple feet long, 1.25" wide. I don't know what kind of paint they used on them, something rust preventative I would guess since they're used for strapping up bundles of lumber and shit.

/diy/, is their any legitimate way my electronics hobby could become a side hustle?

For example could selling completed projects on ebay make me enough spare income to be worth it in the long run?

There's a guy in my country that makes PCBs for guitars.
He puts the potentiometers, the switch and the capacitors in one PCB that is designed to fit the holes perfectly. You just need to solder the pickups, the jack and the ground wires. Makes it easy to install and it completely removes the mess of wires.
Its a simple and neat idea, and I think its a good way to make cash.

I work on an technical university. We make more money than the average engineer or the equivalent professional. One of my colegues do guitars pedals as a hobby. Started making them for him, suddenly some other guitarrist like it and ordered one. Not in a month he have an equal income between the uni and the business so I think it's a good idea. The musician market its always big enough for more competitors and if you do some agregated-value stuff you'll be ok

Stupid dtv is being a serious pain. There is a problem with one specific station, where sometimes it works, sometimes I get nothing unless I hold onto the coax cable. All the other channels are fine, and the problem one is the closest, just under 5mi away.

Currently using a medium sized antenna outside on a 10ft pole. The cable goes in through the side to a coax wall plate, then to a converter box.

I don't know what the problem is, if it just that it needs to be higher up or if there is a grounding issue. What exactly would need to be grounded and how is what I am stumped on.

Found this style of wall art on etsy, and I rather like how they look. They're obscenely expensive, like $500, and look pretty low effort to DIY. I'd like to ask if you guys have any input on my plan.

Grab some scrap 4/4 light colored boards and rip them into strips with a few different widths (to have some 'taller' and 'shorter'). Take those and chop them into some random lengths. Paint most of them in a few different colors, stain a few of them crappily for that Rustic TM look. Take a 1/4 thick quarter sheet of ply and maybe rip some off to change the aspect ratio. Then do a dry assembly to see the look. Lastly take a big tube of super glue gel and accelerator and give each one a couple dots to the backer and to the one above it and hold it for a bit. and assemble like legos. Optional black mitered frame can be added later.

they're expensive because of all the work that goes into making this thing.

Your version might work fine if you screw/glue the backing plywood to some cross braces.

>>1225791

what this anon said.. if you want a k-mart version expect k-mart quality. if you want true handmade quality that takes time version, you gonna pay more.

I was in the middle of installing a new ignition coil for my 2007 Ford Focus SE, as I pulled the old coil out I noticed oil was dripping and that there was oil in the spark plug well and oil was surrounding the spark plug. I believe this happened because the coil I was replacing was already faulty and had been tweeked with, and my dumbass decided to wait in replacing it thus I believe a misfire happened. With that said if I just replace my spark plugs and remove the oil from the well, while I have the new coil on there, will my car be ok? or could I possibly need a new gasket as well?
13 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
How much oil we talking?
My 07 Jetta also has oil but it is a very small amount that dried up
I have changed the coils twice already and plugs once and never saw an increase of oil or burnt residue
Car runs fine tho
What do you mean by tweaked with??
>>
>>1225435
There's oil surrounding the spark plug, as for the tweaked coil, its like this about a month ago I was driving and one of spark plugs shot out, breaking the ignition coil. All spark plugs were changed but that one ignition coil, the spring within it was jacked up, so I took a screwdriver and pulled on the spring far enough so that it may touch the spark plug. Once all that was done, my car was running fine until my check engine light came on and I knew it was my coil, and thus that's how discovered there's oil
>>
>>1225433
It's possible that you might need a new valve cover gasket. And that the oil got into the coil pack and caused a failure.

I'm not familiar with Ford Focus, but in general, valve cover gaskets aren't a terribly big deal. Usually within the skillset of most /diy/ers.

I am making a hinged door using acrylic and screws, and on the end of the screw in this picture there is something to hold it in place. It is not included with the hinge. What is it called?

I don't know what that little piece of crap is called, but I'd much rather use machine screws with proper nuts. But that's just me, because I've worked on lots of things and weird "nuts' like those clips seem to be one-use only, which makes sense from the manufacturer's point of view that nobody takes their shower door off very often.
