Where can I get an airtight space? Like the size of a car but I don't own one. And my bathroom can't be sealed up.

There's already an "office" adjacent so it's just a matter of isolation and then installing those fake walls and ceilings? And plumbing. And heating.

Make the existing office "management quarters", divide the rest with depressing cubicles. Add a water cooler and a shitty copier.

Done.

I have 3 windows I need secured from break ins. I posted their inside dimensions. I need to secure from the inside of the home because I live in an HoA community.

I was thinking of putting angle iron around the inside corners and tig welding expanded metal to fit the window.

Or just use angle irons and weld together a window bars from the inside.

Any other ideas?

There is already a thread about this. This is dumb, do you want to live in a death trap? Use 3M security film.
>>
>>1224746

I don't want burglars to even TRY to break the window. With the security film, they'll just think it's a regular window and try to break in anyway.

Security film is pretty good, but not secure enough. When they try to break in, and notice that it's not easy, there's a good chance they'll stop trying.
>>
>>1224745

In the army they taught us.. Caves make graves. You are trying to build an above ground cave capable of burning. Retarded. Get break resistant film and add to the window. Use a piece of wood as a sexondary measure to jam between the window so it cant be opened. Get an audible alarm if the window is broken or opened. Layered security.

Hey /diy/, never posted here before and I'm not much of a do-it-yourselfer

I'm wanting to put together really simple wooden storage cubes like pic related, 12"x"12. I have no tools (I live in a small apartment), Assuming I got the wood precut, what would I need to make this work? Is this something I could just do with wood glue? Or would I need something else? Do I need anything specific to make sure it ends up properly shaped?
18 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Depends what you are going to use it for and how it will be finished. If you're going to paint it I would use poplar and sand it down. Have a box store cut it to length then just get some finishing nails and wood glue and go from there.
>>
depends on the intended use

glue and nails would be the minimum

Want to make a mini greenhouse with mist sprayers for seedlings/cuttings, set on a timer. The problem is that I don't want to hook up a hose directly to it and have it constantly under pressure all day, or have to worry about someone turning the hose off or disconnecting it all together.

I'm wondering if an aquarium pump (set to run on a timer) would provide enough pressure to create a spray from pic related kind of nozzles. It wouldn't need to be a huge area, 12" should be fine. I already have taps, so making a small pvc rig would be easy.

what it says in the description:
>Operation Pressure:20-70kg/Cm
uh no...it shows a garden hose and that's nowhere near close

suggestions? would some plastic drip misters be a better choice?

>>
Why not a timed valve? They're a thing and they are reliable.
>>
>>1224402
if you know of a ~$15 one that has a seconds setting....they'd be going on for just a few seconds multiple times each hour
>>
>>1224402
This. Then you can just run garden hose and use those piercing devices to make your own mister line.

Valve can be manually or electrically operated.

Found this old metal cooler over the weekend, and i want to restore it. Any ideas on where to find paint that will match this old pink color? Also any tips for cleaning the plastic trim around the bottom and repairing a small hole in one of the corners? Finally how best to clean up/whiten the hard plastic inside the cooler that has yellowed and scuffed over time?

>2 months pass
>Last night, say fuck it and do it myself
>Watch a ton of videos of people with the exact same one
>Paint goes on fairly evenly but when inspected 24 hours later, is dusty and comes off on my hands

Well, fuck. How do I fix it? I gave it a good acetone bath before beginning, wore surgical gloves, and worked in a ventilated, but not windy or dusty environment. Do I sand it, or spray it down with the backyard hose, or what? I've never done anything like this before. If sanding is the option, how do I do it to keep the circular brushed look on the metal?
15 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
you should be able to use some kind of solvent to get it off without ruining the brushed finish. Acetone would be my first stop.
>>
>>1223473
I think that might be normal, there's usually a very fine mist of paint that ends up around the area you're painting and turns into dust. Well at least for auto body paint. Why aren't you clear coating it?

Male elementary teacher here. I've got access to most common power tools.

I'm trying to figure out a cheap way to make a nice seating area for my students to read or work at. I always hated staying in my seat all day but don't want them just sitting on this super hard but lightly carpeted flooring.

I am pretty low on money since this will be my first year.

Anyone got any ideas or solutions?

I thought the filling in those was kind of high. I guess in theory I could make one big one. Or maybe a bench of sorts with that as a cushion.

DESU. You've forgotten what it was like as a kid. Things as adults that we don't find comfortable, kids do just fine. IE they are robust.. A kid has no problem sitting on the floor.. I wouldn't stress yourself over this. Depending on the grade level. I'd consider other things to spend my money on.. Like packs of pencils and paper... There's always like 10 of those fuckers who's parents forgot to school shop it seems.... (this continues and gets worse into highschool)

Good luck. Don't get too excited :)
And stay away from coffee... Get full nights sleep and eat healthy. Oh and less test you give, less grading you do. Also use your grading periods ( if you have em) to actually grade so you're not that annoying teacher who bitches to the class how they spend all their time at home grading papers...

Recently moved a bookcase and noticed a large area (~1' x 2') of black mold underneath on the top of the carpet. The surface isn't damp now so it must have been a water leak that came and went. How can I cheaply and effectively remove both the mold and the stain, without replacing the carpet or ripping it out? Are there any good mold stain removal products I can make or buy at the store? Thanks.

Pic related is what it looks like.

>without replacing the carpet or ripping it out?

nope

tons of bleach maybe, might be better to make it look bleached rather than moldy

or you could spray Great Stuff foam over it, which has anti-microbial agents, then dissolve the foam and hopefully the mold with acetone.
>>
nope

you're screwed
>>
>>1222249
>>1222250
What about hydrogen peroxide? I heard that works. And yeah I guess my biggest concern right now is just eliminating the mold on the surface and covering it up neatly until I can tackle it on a large-scale later.

I have a pretty serious water problem in my basement and I can't afford doing an exterior correction at the present time. Whenever there is a downpour, the basement drains in my house fill up with water and it floods the basement. Today was the worst it's been in years. There was probably 3-4 inches of water at the lowest part of the floor.

I am thinking about installing a sump pump in a basin set beneath my floor, and to just pump the water out and under my porch and daylight it just past my porch so it isn't entirely obvious it's there. The water is coming up through the floor drains, but it's also coming up through the cracks in the floor so I know the water pressure under the house should be enough that it'll sufficiently find its way to the sump basin.

Have any of you been in a situation like this where you couldn't afford an exterior solution but tried doing a partial interior solution yourself?

>>1221520
Put check valves in your drains
>>
>>1221536
It would still come up through the floor. My used to be the only house in the area back when it was a farm in the early 20th century. The basement has about 5 drains in it. I think at some point they slaughtered pheasants down there. I think the basement drains are also tied into the drain tilesfor whatever the hell reason. Check valves won't prevent water from coming up through the floor cracks.
>>
yeah old basements, you can't stop the water getting in at all, build a sump, add a pump.

used to work in a hotel which had this fucking dungeon of a basement which was only 4 foot high, for the beer barrels, there was a sump pump in there, without it there would be a pond.

sump pump, get one, it works! :)

$36 in raw cut lumber and 2 days labor. Idk. Depends on how much your time is worth and your skill level.

I may end up having 40 hours and $75 into it. I get a whooping $30/hr, but it's for fun. So $75-$1,275 whereas I can buy one for $200-$400.
