Considering how much the JRPG genre contributed to SONY's success, and how little Nintendo did to cultivate the genre during the NES and SNES era (and especially Nintendo's own CEO having negative opinions on RPGs at the time), was the N64's lack of JRPGs truly to blame on cartridges?
Let's remove the cartridge from the equation, because the SNES proved you can make great JRPGs with cartridges. Is it more likely that companies just didn't want to put up with Nintendo's bullshit because they knew what the company was like when it came to RPGs?
Imagine creating a JRPG for the N64 and getting absolutely NO coverage from Nintendo. That would be absolutely dire. I think more companies would have tried putting out JRPGs (or even stripped down PS1 ports) on the N64 if they knew they had Nintendo in their corner.
This copy pasta was stale a long time ago, champ.

>Imagine creating a JRPG for the N64 and getting absolutely NO coverage from Nintendo. That would be absolutely dire.
Yeah, instead of the entire disc filled with FMVs and voice acting, they'd have to focus on gameplay.

How come fighting games age like milk?
Because you have no friends to play against.
Fighting games really don't age at all. A good one will remain playable forever.
Nobody played this game back then for the same reasons they don't now
Stop trying to be a hipster faggot finding "obscure games", the fighting genre is already somewhat obscure, the games people consider good are the good ones and the ones you never hear about are typically the bad ones
Faggot
Fighting games don't age, even if they're old. They're good or bad from the start and don't change.
Some are just more played than others for different reasons, the most prevalent being that people don't want to go out of their comfort zone. Case in point: the US dickriding SF, MK and Smash.
Like many games of that time, people wrote down WH as a cheap SF ripoff, which is unfortunate. Game is quite fun, even with the broken stuff. It has some proto-airdasher mechanics.

Why was Playstation too weak to handle Duke Nukem 3D?
>>3340870
Why was Playstation the only accurate port of Duke Nukem 3D?
>>3340870
On consoles the CPU is typically weaker, compared to PCs of the same era. Reason being that they use dedicated graphics hardware, to offload a fair amount of the work. Also makes them quite a bit cheaper.
Duke Nukem 3D does not use polygons, or sprites, or tiles. As such, the dedicated graphics hardware on the PS could not be used.
With the major advantage of the console out of the picture, the comparably weaker CPU caused the difference.
The N64 game is not a port but uses polygonal graphics instead, so it takes full advantage of the hardware. The difference is, among other things, indicated by the game being named Duke Nukem 64, not Duke Nukem 3D.
The picture for the PS is misleading because the other two have the Y axis go up to 40fps, and maintain 30fps on the graph. The PS graph goes up to 60fps. The yellow bump near the right third goes close to 30fps
>>3340903
>The PS graph goes up to 60fps.
That just means it has an unlocked framerate. In practice, it never goes up that high unless you are walking into a wall.
Hey dudes, wanted to know if any Genesis/Mega Drive 'thusiasts can help me, as I've had some issues with my Euro Model II.
The controller keeps disconnecting on its own. Sometimes only half the pads buttons stop working, sometimes only up and right on the dpad seem to work and I have to wiggle the input to get it working normally again, which often results in the game crashing. It's an official six button pad I bought on ebay which has apparently been refurbished and tested. It's in good condition and there's no damage to the cable or on the pins on the console itself. With the right amount of wiggling I can get it to work fine, but the slightest movement of the cable screws it up, and strangely some games are harder to keep working than others (streets of rage II works almost flawlessly, but I cant play earthworm jim for more than 2 mins before it cuts out).
Apologies for the essay, but does anyone have any ideas what the issue might be?
Have you tried using another pad?
>>3340662
It's either a contract that's dirty, a wire that's pinched or a solder joint that's cracked. Start by cleaning the black contact points inside the controller
Which version of 幻影都市 (Illusion City) should I play? MSX or MegaCD?
I mean in Japanese, so no need to care for the translation.
PC98
>>3340689
Why?
>>3340661
MSX has no English translation, only up to disk 6.
I think it has Portuguese or Spanish im not sure.
Also the other anon recommends PC98 because the gameplay is smoother and the music is better.

So this was definitely one of my top 3 favorite PC games. Anyone ever play the Sudden Strike series? Specifically Sudden Strike, Sudden Strike Forever, or even Sudden Strike 2 (the other random expansions between I will count as well).
In my opinion Forever was the best, but SS II brought amazing new features such as being able to capture enemy vehicles, the pacific, etc...
I'll go even farther out on a limb, anyone remember the mission from Sudden Strike (Forever I think) "Conquer"? You are the Germans assigned to take back a town in the Northeast. Very difficult but awesome mission. Using the artillery to bombard the bunkers into the ground, then repel Russian reinforcements until you thin them out enough to take the town. Those god damn rocket launcher trucks they had, holy shit...
>>3340353
Slav here. Rwg mod is best thing ever. Lives up to the name its real war experience with historic senario and large scale battle.
>>3340367
Never heard of it. What game does it mod exactly?
>>3340353
its artilerry wins the war the game, I love it and still play it sometimes even though I never got gud, but I tried many tactics.
I liked to do niche things like sticking 4 machineguner in one jeep and then driving around enemy lines and killing gun crews.
leveling supply trucks by refueling each other
leveling the entire maps with katyushas or artillery.
having squad of one non shoting commander and several snipers clearing anything thatwasnt tanks
I never really played the forever, but I loved bren carriers and many other things.
SS2 was also good but I didnt play that nearly as much as SS
Interestingly I played it first time with my friends on lan party and that multiplayer was fucking hilarious. I would like to play it again sometimes, it is probably like 12 years since I played the multiplayer
Why did they put the D-pad on the left side? Most people are right-handed, so the more important controls should be on the right.
Because it was successful on the Donkey Kong Game and Watch

Collectors, I need your advice.
What's the most you ever paid for a game?
Currently eyeing a rare 4th gen title that's $383.
It would be the last game I want to collect for this console but I mostly want it for its rarity and not its quality.
How would you play it?
>>3340145
i would check if it works on flashcarts, buy one and copy the game to it, replace the plastic so it doesnt have an SDcard opening, put a new label matching the rare game and display it on my shelf
>How would you play it?
i would play it with my other flashcart
Over a grand on two separate occasions. To be fair, both are the only currently documented copies to exist of their particular versions (they are almost certainly not one of a kind, though, just incredibly rare and at present are not available online).
Most I've paid for a game was $400 for a CIB MUSHA. Most I've paid for anything /vr/ related was $700 for a TurboDuo that had its seal broken but arguably was never taken out of the box.
20 years ago today NiGHTS released in Japan.
>>3340115
And it sucked even more than the Sonic games.
>>3340140
I'm sorry you feel that way. Maybe give the game another chance?
>>3340151
Nah.
I'm talking like Wizardry, Etrian Odyssey, that kind of game.
What is the VERY BEST one of all?
They all have different things to offer, so there's no absolute best.
Even Rogue (the original roguelike) has its own strong points compared to say Nethack. Neither is better though. Rogue is ideal if you just want a simple and quick tactical game, while Nethack is something to spend years discovering tricks and ways to exploits situations.
Shiren the Wanderer
Do you prefer playing original versions or remakes for classic JRPGs that tend to be unforgiving and slower paced on Famicom? Think Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Megami Tensei, etc.
Using save states and speeding up gameplay on an emulator is cheating.
The original versions for nostalgia which is the only reason to play a /vr/ JRPG anyway.
Original versions for the sake of more fully understanding the game in terms of its place in gaming history.
>>3339520
Specifically, for FF1, I like the PS1 version better. Mainly for the fact that you won't whiff at a target that just died. It might have also fixed all the broken spells and such that just plain didn't work.
