What does /vr/ think of this company?
What games did they make?
I used to have a Voodoo 3 3000
I loved my Voodoo 2. Great company, wish they were still around.
I want to start playing the old AD&D games, I mean the Gold Box ones and their contemporaries. Basically anything pre-Baldur's Gate goes. Which games should I play? Which ones should I avoid? Are they difficult to get into?
Eye of the Beholder for the SNES, and Warriors of the Sun for the Genesis. The first one is your classic dungeon crawler, while the second one is an open world, Ultima type game.

Didn't those games originally release for PC? Why go for console ports?
Just play the Forgotten Realms gold box series in order:
Pool of Radiance
Curse of the Azure Bonds
Secret of the Silver Blades
Pools of Darkness
Make sure to get the adventurers journals and read them as you play.
What are your favorite classic run and gun games, and why?
>Gunstar Heroes sonnnn
Alien Soldier
>I love boss rushes
>perfect, mobile, technical and still unmatched controls
>smooth as fucking hell
>the difficulty is spot on
>it's the perfect pick up and play
>incredible graphics even to this day
Contra Hard Corps and Mega Man X (if you consider it a run&gun, which I don't see why you wouldn't given there isn't much platforming compared to the NES ones) are my follow-ups
>>3331453
I hate the mine cart level
Even the boss
>>3331473
You mean Green, the one with 7 god damn forms when playing on expert mode?
Man that shit was really hard. But memorable as hell, and it felt so god damn good after finally beating him. Few bosses today that can replicate that feeling of satisfaction.
What is happening to my game?
He's just spazzing out right there
Also the main menu had black lines
No sound glitches and I don't see misplaces textures and whatnot
Related, perhaps, was the oddity wherein my controller responded to the B button as Start, whilst the other keys did nothing.
Unplugging the machine remedied the issue, but was reproduced after an undetermined amount of time and game swaps.
No, Virginia, the paddle had Not been plugged in during operation.

It's haunted, best to burn it now and salt the pcb.
Thoughts?
Masterpiece.
Great game and really unique. There aren't many platformers where you can't jump.
>>3330332
First game I ever played.
Ask here for the names of games you don't remember
What's the name of the NES/famicom game on the pic?
>>3330283
Zooming Secretary

thx m8
I wasn't able to find what game it was beacuse it's a homebrew
There was once a standalone machine, it did not have any cartridge ports. It was shaped like a motorbiking helmet, and displayed some pretty smooth color vector art. I remembered the game was pretty fun. I think it may have been released prior to the 90s.

Get the heck out of here, you nerd!
>HEY!
>You still don't have a Sega CD?
>It's ok because no one else does either.
Nintendo's coming out with one in a few years. I can wait.
I wanted a Sega CD so bad as a kid.

I'm going to a trip and will only have my shitty laptop to pass time, recommend some good DOS games or anything that runs on a toaster of toasters.
Kroz and ZZT series
And most other text mode games.

I'm having trouble with dosbox, it doesnt let me change the directory to my game folders, it keeps saying that c:\ already is the directory.
>>3328387
maybe it's already set to mount local C:\ as drive c: in dosbox.conf?
Wizardry Gaiden IV for the Super Famicom has just received and English translation patch.
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/2061/
Wasn't 4 translated before 2 and 3?
What's the difference between the Gaiden and the main series?

So, I just bought System Shock Enhanced Edition. Are there any mods I absolutely must install, or should I just go in vanilla?
>>3325731

Unreal Tournament thread. Can we get one going?
Fuck that map.
>So i told him to 1v1 me with instagib rifles... he actually did it the absolute madman hahahahahahaha!
Don't mind me, just being the best map.
What are some artistically experimental japanese retro games vr?
Bonus points if the game has an amazing experimental soundtrack.

If experimental Japanese games are your thing check out the Japanese ps1 library. During 5th and 6th gen the PS1 and PS2 received a lot of bizarre and "artistic" games. Most famous of these kind of games is LSD dream simulator by Osamo Sato, he developed a bunch of surreal experimental games.
For 4th gen check out live-a-live, gaia trilogy (soul blazer, illusion of gaia, terranigma), umihara kawase, and earthbound. All of these are snes/sfc games. Nothing experimental/artsy comes to mind for the genesis, moreof arcade like action games.
Hope this helps, also fuck you for reminding me we'll never get moon rpg remix translated.
Seaman on dreamcast.
Remember this, /vr/?

Let's see if this flies.
Classic series:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, Mega man and Bass (Rock man and Forte); 9, 10 (> not retro)
Pocket: Dr. Wily's Revenge, II, III, IV, V (GB), Mega Man (GG), Rockman & Forte: Challenger from the Future (WonderSwan JP Only), Rockman Battle & Fighters (Neo Geo Pocket Color)
Not cannon: Mega man X Street Fighter [fun]
Mods:
Required to play:
4 Minus Infinity: colossal work, from remixed music from different NES titles and enemies from different mega man games to levels and bosses that will make you sweat hype. There are slopes, ok!?
Ultimate: completely new game, may as well have been made by Capcom in 2012, difficulty level makes 9 seem like a walk on the piece of cake
7 FC and 8 FC: make 7 and 8 into 8 bit gold with 9 in mind. If you're wary of 8 (and there's not a whole bunch of reasons), play the demake
Suggested to play:
4 BCAS: another mod completely changing the game, making it faster and adding air slide
Claw: hard as fuck, but graphics is shitty in places
2 Ultra: since 2 is easy af
2 No Constancy
2: Deus Ex Machina
2: Function-9
In progress:
2.5D: the shit is gonna be huge
X series:
X1, X2, X3, X4; X5, X6, X7, X: Command Mission, X8
(Xtreme 1 and 2 on GBC)
Zero series:
Zero 1, Zero 2, Zero 3, Zero 4
Legends series (3D action/adventure):
Legends, The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, Legends 2
Battlenetwork series (real time RPG on GBA)
BN 1, BN Transmission (GC only), BN 2, BN3, BN4, BN5, BN6
FAQ:
> Where should I start?
>> 1, unless you're 16-babby in which case consider X. Make your way onward.
> Does 8 suck?
>> It's mediocre at the very best for a mega man game, but it's still a shitload of fun
> I have autism and can't play mish-mash mods like MI, are there any mods with integrity?
>> Ultimate should be your first choice, play MM X SF and perhaps BCAS as well
> Series aside from Classic and X worth playing?
>> Eh...
