This controller sucks, the d-pad alone makes me wanna kill myself.

Saturn 3D controller is far superior.
>>
>>3332614
The d-pad is shit
The analog stick is shit (moves too far in all directions)
Shape of the back forces you to curve your hand extremely
The triggers are finger tiring
The cord comes out the bottom
The memory cards require batteries
>>
The D-pad is sharp as fuck and cuts into my thumb. The shoulder buttons are cramped. Only 4 face buttons? Start is inconveniently placed. Why is the cord coming out of the bottom? About the only thing the DC controller did well was having 2 slots for a rumble pack and a memory card at the same time. The VMU was also a neat idea. Too bad it drained batteries quicker than a toilet flush.

Ive been trying to find this... thing. IDK the name of it but i have a vague description. It lookes like a blue N64 Controller, and it has like 50 games on it. To play it you would hook it up to the tv by using a RCA connector and power it directly from the mains. If someone could hep me by finding the name of the product or something, I would be grateful. I remember that one of the games on there was gradius.

It used a menu which would allow you to select a game. I remember it also had some street fighter game in the beginning and some sort of tank game.

If anyone if bothered, please help me find it. Thanks again.

I got a SD2SNES cart today. I think I made a mistake. I already tried some games that I didn't own like Secret of Mana and Megaman X. However, they seem boring for me. (I already played a lot of megaman x on emulators before).

So recommend me some good games.

Why is this game critically acclaimed? It just seems like your average JRPG to me. Was it the FF7 of it's time?
6 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>3345994
it's an average JRPG that's made above-average by its charming characters and interesting environments. Also, like many JRPGs, its reputation was only enhanced by its relative rarity and exclusivity

what does this even mean anymore

Also dynamic battle music.

I hope you guys don't mind me posting this here but this is something I thought would be fun. It might not match the general tone of this board that well, so I promise not to bump it myself unless other people start to do so, so do feel free to sage/ignore and let this slide off the catalog if you don't want to participate. I just figured many of us here would be cynical to say the least about the present state of vidya as a whole and a topic like this might be a good way to vent some frustration. So without further ado...

You are now, as of this moment, a video game "journalist," but here's the twist: you have just been teleported back in time to anywhere between the early 80's to the very early 2000's. It is, however, still your job to say something about a retro game. It can be any kind of comment about any retro game, just as long as it sounds like something a "real" video game "journalist" would say about the game nowadays if they were around back then. I'll go first:

>Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was supposed to be an ambitious title, but ironically it fails to amount to anything more than a mediocre experience marked by excessive problematic gameplay, cinematic elements too few and far between, an utter lack of tutorials, and last but not certainly least the appalling lack of representation of literally any other gender than binary-conforming heteronormative males.

Also I guess we could use this thread to post annoyances or grievances we might have with how things have changed in gaming and talk about the reasons why we prefer retro games.

> Slow movement speed, excessive random encounters, and bad balance keep pokemon red and blue from being must buys. Lack of ability to choose your gender also does the already lackluster experience no favors.

Welp me decide /vr

Option 1 - Dreamcast > VGA >Samsung Syncmaster 765 MB > Creative 2.1 Speakers

Option 2 - PS2 > SCART>Sony BVM 14G5U > Sony Receiver 5.1 Speakers (Running from Hard Drive to decrease loading times)

I have found a old pc (pic related from when he was used) and the case is so cool that I'm thinking about building a old pc on it...I'm thinking something about a pentium III with windows 98 ans a 3dfx gpu...what you guys think should be the specs? Building a old pc is worth it?
4 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>3345215
It's worth it if you have the room for it. I have a windows 98 machine my spare room, and it's a lot of fun. I wouldn't build a retro PC though, I would go to a computer recycling place and just pick something up.

Also you can still get a lot of computer stuff from that era for basically free nowadays, which is nice.
>>
>>3345215
>and the case is so cool that I'm thinking about building a old pc on it
It looks like a standard 4U 19" rack-mountable server case.
Probably ATX so you could fit most mainboards made between 1996 and today.

Yeah that's just a rackmount case, nothing really special. You can of course put old 90's guts in there. The fan might be loud though. I once used a Pentium II era server as my desktop for a couple months, and the noise was insane. Well it probably didn't help that it had SCSI-2 UW disks (spinning at like 15k rpm?), but I think even just the fan was pretty damn loud compared to normal desktop machine.

Anyway pic is more typical of old desktop machine. I think this one's a Wang 286 clone, but the 90's desktop cases didn't look all that much different, except having 3.5-inch floppy drive and CDROM instead of those 5.25-inch floppy drives. Early 90's cases often had both type of floppy drives, since that was the transitional period.
I think that button above the LEDs in the middle might be turbo button. Even my 486DX/33 case had one of those, and I've seen quite a few Pentium systems with one as well.

I like Diablo on PS1 because the auto-targeting for spells work well and you can pause to choose skills, which makes certain spells more useful.

>>
So you suck at video games.

Good to know.
>>
>>3345082
Not being as efficient as you could be because you couldn't pick a skill is artificial difficulty.

A "real" mage would just think of a spell and then cast it, he wouldn't move around a virtual menu or user interface on his mind to pick a spell.
>>
>>3345084
You get four hotkeys for spells which should be enough for spells you need to switch instantly. Selecting the rest can be quickly done during your movement.

Real wizards such as myself obviously use words of power.
