Do you limit yourself to a certain amount of credits when emulating arcade games?
>>3903376
Of course.
Save states are faster especially if remapped to F5/F7
>>3903376
No, the point isn't to "beat" the game but to keep doing better and better and to use less credits the next times.
If you think the point is to beat the game, then how do you even decide how credits to use. It's completely arbritary, not to mention not every game has similar credit systems or difficulty.
ONE CrEDIT ONLY BIIIIITCH
Opinions on this beatemvania?
>>3903145
I love the whole idea of RPG+beat 'em up fusion. I also loved the setting, and how you could interact wit objects/enemies.
That said, I wasn't exactly a big fan of the combat. It often felt a bit stiff or clunky, and the slowdown didn't help. Enemies often blocked all the time and there was little you could do; then again, some late-game techniques made the game a cakewalk. Overall, I don't think it favored skill very much.
So I prefer Renegade to it.
>>3903145
Dude, they're called punchroids.
I'm not too found of it
>let's spend time looking at guys's asses taking showers and drinking goddamn tea instead of fighting
>flicker and slow down up the ass, especially in coop
What's the line that separates normies from people who belong on /vr/?
Man, t/rv/or has a lot of fangirls.
What is it about retro games that attracts girls so much?
Anyone who sincerely likes video games belongs on /vr/.
>>3902782
Normies play mainstream shit while we play slightly less mainstream shit.
Why is Robotnik consistently shown running faster than Sonic in multiple games?
He had to get to the final boss machine somehow. Wouldn't be very cool if you just caught him after destroying the penultimate boss machine and the game ended.
>>3902404
>consistently
We've talked about this already. He has has an Emerald battery in his butt that gives him short bursts of speed - such as between vehicles - but Sonic is still naturally faster.
>>3902410
They didn't need to have him run. He could've had one of those smaller egg machines each time to transport him forward. It would've been more believable that a machine with jet propulsion could outrace sonic.
So I've been thinking of buckling down and going through every single decent classic console RPG I never played or finished, particularly of the SNES and PS1 variety, a thing I've been meaning to do for quite some time. But I think one of the reasons I've been putting it off is.. I really want to like, share the experiences, have people to talk to about it as I go through, y'know? That's so much of what made growing up playing RPGs so much fun, both with geeky real-life friends who've long-since gone separate ways and the earlier days of the late-90s-early-00s internet that seems to have gone by the wayside.
Is there still anywhere where people'd give a shit about talking about that kind of thing? Any oldschool forums, or irc or even discord chats, or anything like that? Or maybe I should just make threads here about them as I go through them?
As long as your threads are accessible and not just "check out my screenshots and witty quips," I don't see a problem with making threads on here.
Make threads here to discuss the game you're playing, but only if the topic is worth discussion and you can be patient with the super slow pace of the board.
If what you really want is good discussions, start by playing any of the RPGs you may have missed that already regularly have their own threads (DQ, FF, SMT, SaGa, etc.) Those threads tend to ha EA good discussion if you lurk enough to know what's shitposting
I'd be into doing a group play-along for an RPG, sort of like what other boards do with books, albums, movies, etc. What games did you have in mind?
I know it isn't a Disney game per se, but it really bothers me that Capcom isn't releasing this classic like the rest. Granted, these Capcom collections are kinda memeware anyways, but still.
Am I the only one who hold this game dear?
>>3902072
Cool, a nemo thread.
One of my favorite nes games and licensed games ever. Great game with good graphics, level design, and music. It was a little weird at first to me since you don't have a weapon until the last stage but you get over it. I think the feeling of "adventure" this game gives is brilliant , really feels like a magical land from all the stages. Quite tough too, house of toys still gets me even to this day.
Also I didn't know this until recently but capcom had an arcade nemo game as well. Doesn't look anywhere near as good as the nes one but still cool.

>>3902324
That hack looks angsty as fuck dude.
Neither game really captures the film that well, just as the film doesn't really follow the original comics. Just enjoy them for what they are.
that game is hard as fuck
Okay well, I got a CIB copy of the SNES Sunset Riders at a local video game store for $36.99 and I'm actually pretty sure it's real. But the eBay prices for a CIB copy seem too astronomical to be accurate, so I was just wondering what it actually is worth. Either way, the purchase was worth it because it's my favorite arcade game and I never thought I'd own it, much less with the box and manual.
>>3901940
I thought the genesis port was closer to the arcade certain.
>>3901945
I just think the box is a really, really cool display piece if I could get the mother fucking sticker off cleanly, and it was priced as if it were loose
Why do people like Genesis ShadowRun more than ShadowRun on SNES?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2e0dUt4IfU
Honestly have no idea, but both are good games
The modern games are such complete shit though
>>3901868
just because it's more like the "pen and paper tabletop"
Because in the end it's just about console wars.
The two games are quite different and there's no reason to compare them other than being based on the same IP.
Taking each game on its own, I have to admit the SNES doesn't do its thing very well. As a point and click adventure the controls are terrible and the combat parts are lame.
The story isn't amazing and doesn't fit that tight into the SR universe.
The Genesis game might have profited from a six button pad and more diversity in the missions but it's fairly enjoyable nonetheless.
The Mega CD game obviously gets ignored by most people because it's Japanese only. The plot and characters are nice and it feels a little bit like a pen & paper campaign.
Drawbacks are the performance and limitations of the game system.
For all you /vr/ troopers that haven't played Super Tempo yet I highly recommend it. Definitely the best of the series
>>3901814
I can't get past the first boss
>>3901847
You just need those gains.
Is their any good Saturn emulators now
Last time I played from years ago it's all choppy
Do you prefer R-Type or Gradius?
>>3901350
I can't put my finger on it but R-Type always felt boring where as I have enjoyed several Gradiuses. Slower maybe?
>>3901350
Darius
>>3901358
R-Type's pacing couldn't be any slower if it tried. Some of the games are pretty enjoyable, but they're a chore to sit through.
>Massive ship approaches
>Spend 10 minutes waiting for the camera to pan around every section of the outer hull
>Lose one of your ships at any point and have to repeat a 40-minute boss fight from the beginning
Yeah, I definitely prefer Gradius.
What retro games use Dolby Surround besides these? What do you guys think of matrix encoded surround sound?
There is Dolby Surround which is 3.0 (Left Right Back) and Dolby Surround Pro Logic which is 4.0 (Left Right Center Back). Dolby Pro Logic II was added later in the PS2 era which featured 5.1.
There is a lot of confusion and myths about retro gaming and surround sound since pro logic is an analogue technique and can basically make any stereo source sound 'surround'.
Confusing is for example the Japanese box art for Parasite Eve states Dolby Surround while the US cover misses the Dolby Logo. US covers of FFIX, FFVIII and Chrono Chross have the Dolby logo but the PAL versions are missing it. Can we be sure that all these versions feature Dolby Surround? Is there a way to determine true pro logic sources without a logo on the box art?
Also are games with the Dolby Surround logo 'Dolby Surround 3.0' or 'Dolby Surround Pro Logic 4.0' ? Because I have never seen a pro logic logo on any game, only pro logic II. But Surround 3.0 according wikipedia was used on video cassettes in the 80s and Pro Logic is a technology since 87. So isn't it more likely to be 4.0 pro logic surround? I sure hope so.
Other notable mentions are Ocarina of Time, Majoras Masks and Resident Evil 2(Dolby Surround is exclusive for this version) for the N64.
>>3901291
Good ol' stereo was the best I ever got since I'm a poorfag. I've also never owned my own house. But I still find it interesting seeing Dolby logos on old ass games.
>>3901318
Ocean made really good snes music
Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask have it, though only Majora has the logo. It's probably a licensing issue which is why it isn't included in some games.

Have you guys ever played Doom before?
>>3901195
Nah, I've only played Strife.
>Assistant director to Super Mario bros
>co-director of The Legend of Zelda
>Director of Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Yoshi's Island
>Assistant director for Mario 64
Yet Miyamoto gets ALL the credit.
>>3900943
Agreed, no one ever talks about Tezuka
Unfortunately, he's also responsible for the soulless NSMB series
>>3900943
True.
>>3900964
And true.
But to be fair, I feel like Nintendo as a whole really started going downhill after 2008, so I can't point any fingers and say, 'yes, this person or these people contributed to Nintendo's downfall.' I'm sure it was a combination of many things.
Name 1 thing Miyamoto actually contributed to LEGITIMATELY since SMB.
Taking a day off from working out.
Give me some fun /vr/ worthy games to spend my afternoon on. I prefer games with story over simple arcade games. I want something that will really blow my mind.
Thanks dudes
the legend of dragoon
>>3900870
Don't skip on those leg days anon.
>>3900886
Legs are all I do, I'm trying to lose weight. Biked 100 miles in the past week.
Chrono Cross anyone?
I was listening the the OST the other day. Only played it twice, maybe it's time for a third run.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MV-FvxoR1PQ&list=PL04ADB121151A2C5E&index=61
>>3900784
only ever played it twice too.. as a kid (which I didn't finish because I was missing the Disc 2) and last year-- haven't cleared everything yet.. there's the hidden island thingy so I might play it again
Does it run well in emulator now, or is it still fucked?
