ok vr, i need your help,
im trying to find this unique portable game console that i had when i was a kid, here's the description:
it looked like a giant sniper scope with a handle and trigger, the whole thing had camouflage paint.
there was a lid on one end, if you opened it, there was perhaps a 16 bit display on it but it was like the original game boy, only in black and green. it was obviously also back lit since you had to hold it up to your eye to see and play it. the other end was a speaker.
it was NOT cartridge based, and there was only one built in game, it was definitely duck hunt from what i remember, there where other buttons on the trigger that allowed you to aim the cross-hairs, and the trigger obviously fired.
that is all i can remember about it, will you help me /vr/?
I feel pretty confident what you're describing is Wizard Works Deer Hunter

OP here, this is not it, It didn't have a stock in the slightest, just the scope and handle.
So gentlemen, opinions?
And before anyone throws a bitchfit, they confirmed the black outlines are an optional visual filter.

I hope they make combat not garbage
>>3889069
Based on the interface, it doesn't seem like they changed it much unfortunately, which in turn means the combat will still be shit since the interface was the prime problem behind it.
Seriously why the fuck can't they give it Baldur's Gate's interface.
>>3889060
They changed nothing.
It better come out in 2 hours and cost $10 full or $5 upgrade.
The graphics are so charming
>>3888584
They are.
Agreed. Good thread chaps let's do it again same time next week.
I have always liked how every town had its own palette on the Super Gameboy.
It felt cool to see the palette change as you first enter.
Are there any other games that do that?
Did Super Bomberman 3 use a different sound engine unlike the other games?
What makes you think that?
>>3888464
They give the sound programmers a limited work ram that they must work around as they translate the composer's music into the game. This is why one game will sound crystal clear and the other one sounds like the game is down a hallway.
Super Bomberman 1-5 all have varying sound quality. Never bugged me.
>>3888464
I've been replaying Bomberman 2 the past week, do you recommend I go through 3?
Is this thing even worth it?
Why is it such a shitty piece of hardware?
>>3888163
If you wanna play the best version of Metroid, yeah.
>>3888171
What about an everdrive cartridge version
>>3888163
is not shitty, is just completely outdated, thats all.
Was this possibly the most important Atari 2600 game that wasn't a port?
>First open ended action adventure game
>One of the only Atari games to be more of what we think as a modern single player game and less "arcadey" for lack of a better term
>Would probably never have shit like Zelda, Wizardry, Ultima, or Elder Scrolls without it
>Contained the world's first 'easter egg.' A trend that would continue into the modern age of gaming.
Is Adventure retro game KINO?
>>3887940
>game KINO
Ludo.
Kuso thread.
I remember TRS-80 games around that time that used text "graphics" to do about the same thing.
Also, Adventure preceded them, but Riddle Of the Sphinx and Raiders of the Lost Ark were more remembered by the time the 2600 went out of style.
You say important like that means something. The horrid Pacman port sold more than Adventure. People were just happy to have video games at home.
Are there any other good pages like this one
bootgod.dyndns.org:
but for other consoles
I checked my old NES games, and found that my Contra game may be fake
I would like to check my other games from old consoles

For those who want to look up the boards of their SNES games to verify authenticity:
http://snescentral.com/gameindex.php
It's a pretty impressive database.
Yeah, my hoarder uncle saved quite a bit from my negligence. I am sure he still has a nice 17" PC CRT monitor with an early Gateway Pentium for me to harvest for parts, just wish I had the room for another CRT monitor. Anyway didn't realize my pics would be reused by someone else, I'm under the impression I annoy most here on /vr/, I'm actually quite honored OP.

Not sure who you are man, I remember saving that image somewhere here on 4chan, I recently started using /vr/, I only use /a/
Thank you for the help again
>>3889241
Forgot to say now I only need for the n64 and game boy family
Do you happen to have a photo of the board of your Majora copy?
What are your honest opinions about the game?
Any childhood memories or stories to tell?
Did you brave The Great Chip Shortage of '88?
Is this the most overrated or underrated Mario platformer in the core series?
Any and all discussion and input welcome!
Great game, but there's not too much to say about it that hasn't been said.
That part where you ride birds through the night sky is fucking cool though.
>>3887441
Did you know that this is actually a reskinned version of a Japanese game called Doki Doki Picnic? The real Super Mario Bros. 2 wasn't originally ported outside of Japan, and the version in the West was later released in Japan as Super Mario USA.
>1988
>Dad Goes to Kmart to buy a copy for me and my sister and a friend of ours who's father was an alcoholic
>Walks in, power walks over to the game section (he had scouted area the night before), grabs two of the paper slips and takes them to the Electronics pay and pickup area.
> Has two copies
> Hears a woman screaming "WHADU MEAN YOU ONLY HAD FOUR OF THE MARIOS!?"
> Dad sprints the fuck out of the store and gives it to me and my sister when we got home from church
> Happy I have such an awesome father
I know that the rose tinted glasses are in full force here, but goddamn do I love Mario 2/USA. The levels are massive and well crafted. The first world introduces all of the concepts of the game and doesn't hesitate to add more on level 1-2 where you have to solve a simple puzzle to continue (use the magic carpet).
The introduction of specific boss characters, beautiful graphics, wonderful music, it was just an amazing game for its time and it still holds up as a very fun game.
This is the best fighting game on the nintendo 64not really but it is fun as hell

>Wield the power of mace
>>3886993
>>3887012
Can't think of any kind of Mace that's not deadly
I just found out about the cheatcode for the dwarf mech this shit is awesome
>throw sticky semen to samus
>catch her and proceed to penetrate her
what did Draygon mean by this?
Draygon is a lady.
>>3886752
>she
Draygon is female, so it was trying to lay it's eggs on Samus.
Would you consider Sprite based games timeless?
Compared to early polyginal games?
>>3886480
Define "timeless"
>>3886480
Yes. If it's done well like on some SNES games, on the Saturn or Playstation 1or on GBAthen chances are likely they hold up better for those who didn't live through the past decades. I still like the look of some early polygonal games like Starfox, Mario 64 or Crash Bandicoot because it gives them a distinct look that feels weird at first but after a while it makes them stand out positively.
So yes, it depends on what you mean with timeless. If it is "more approachable to later generations" then my answer is yes.
Because art direction usually has much greater importance for sprite based games. A good art direction is independant from technological limitations.
For 3D, the standard in most people's mind is usually "realism" over the rest. So the limits of the technology matters more.
This is the reason why, for instance, people claim the "chibi" models from FF7 have aged terribly, because they look at it through the spectrum of "realism" while completely disregarding the fact that "chibi" was an art direction choice to begin with, in the same way that earlier FF tittles had different sprites for their characters in combat and outside combat, and that if they could have some models in combats, I don't see why they couldn't in the world map if they wanted to.
My point is, when it comes to 3D people only care about the technical aspect. Just look at pro VG reviews and they way they're literaly going to count the number of polygons on the screen to judge if "good graphics".
so these two were billed as the greatest games ever back in the day. Obviously it's a lot of marketing talk, but which one lives up more to that title nowadays?
>>3886402
Neither.
oot is competently made and doesn't really have any major flaws. FF7 is a solid game with fun combat, a good customization system and great story moments.
A game being the greatest ever is a culmination of everything up to that point. It's important to understand as more games get released that potential pool gets expanded drastically.
Both are plagued by shortcomings but OOT has more. n64 games age better in general but hearing those audio samples used over and over again with link is fucking cringe-inducing. FF7 is an classic rpg with lots and lots of fluff so most of the flaws are in the numbers. Materia system is kinda shit and phsyical moves and limit breaks are the best moves in the game not counting the ridiculous summons.
CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWW
>>3885860
What did he mean by that and so forth
>>3885860
Meth addict? I remember he had no teeth and it creeped me out.
>>3885860
I want those tiger pants.
I have never played a final fantasy game.
Where should I start? Was thinking VI or VII. I liked Chrono Trigger.
Or should I play a different JRPG instead?
I'm emulating so it can be anything up to the PS1.
>>3885316
Play VII, there's a reason it sold 10 million
7 is great. Have you played many other jrpgs?
>>3885316
7 MIGHT turm you off of jrpgs. It depends how "impressed" you are with it. Ff2 is a good starting point.
Is it worth it, vr?
>portable
>powerful screen lighting
>patrician game library
>interesting color schemes
Yes, but not retro.
Doesn't have native support for GB/C
>>3885239
the form factor is nice but consider getting a DS Lite if you want a still somewhat small form factor, slightly larger screen, lower cost to obtain, and compatibility with GBA and DS libraries. A hacked Nintendo 3DS might also something to consider given the in-roads with GBA emulation on it.
