Do you prefer R-Type or Gradius?
>>3901350
I can't put my finger on it but R-Type always felt boring where as I have enjoyed several Gradiuses. Slower maybe?
>>3901350
Darius
>>3901358
R-Type's pacing couldn't be any slower if it tried. Some of the games are pretty enjoyable, but they're a chore to sit through.
>Massive ship approaches
>Spend 10 minutes waiting for the camera to pan around every section of the outer hull
>Lose one of your ships at any point and have to repeat a 40-minute boss fight from the beginning
Yeah, I definitely prefer Gradius.
>>3901350
I like Gradius more (better design), but I'm much better at R-Type. Gradius kicks my butt.
I'd still rather play a Capcom 19xx game.
>>3901368
>>3901390
Good to know my memory is working at least. It's not a genre I play a lot and haven't touched an R-Type in many years I just remember them looking neat at first and then being so boring I never end up going back after the first couple plays.
Me and Gaiares found each other though so it's all good.
I'm terrible at both and hate them for that reason
>R-Type or Gradius
>no mention of Star Soldier
Too bad the PCE wasn't more popular outside of Japan. The Soldier games seem to be regarded as rather obscure by shmup fanbases.
>>3901546
Soldier Blade is a masterpiece.
>>3901567
>Irem canceled all of their titles after the 2011 tsunami and became a pachinko company
>Konami did the same shortly after
>Bandai Namco somehow holds the rights to Sol Feace and will never make a sequel, probably because they forgot it even exists
>Treasure just kind of does nothing nowadays, despite owning Ikaruga and Silpheed
Hell, I'm so desperate for a new Shmup in these series' I'd be willing to pay for a new port of them, just to give myself a little hope it'd happen if they got enough money.
Parodius.
>>3901364
this also works
>>3901364
The only right answer.
Speaking of Darius, should I wait for Limitedrungames to put out the physical copy of Dariusburst or should I just settle for the digital release?
And they just released DLC a month ago that adds Progear, Side Arms, and VARTH.
>>3901358
R-Type III is definitely really boring.
It probably has the worst first stage in the history of shmups.
Aleste. Every Aleste game is awesome.
>>3901783
This too.
>>3901843
Aleste suffers from beingtoo easy.
R-Type, though I've only ever played Super and Final.
Gradius
R-Type is great but it feels like watching a snowman pee out molasses
>>3901567
This
Soldier Blade seems to be pretty well regarded, it's one of the few PCE games along with Rondo and Ys that seems to get any international recognition
It's the other soldier games that seem to be more obscure
>>3901350
R-Type is where it's at.
I prefer you sucking my dick.
:^)
>>3901350
Parodius
>>3901350
Had R-Type III, Gradius III, and Phalanx as a kid. R-Type was my personal jam out of the 3.
>>3901350
I find Gradius more fun to play however I love the art style and boss designs in R-Type.
>>3901364
>Not Gaiares or Thunderforce
R-Type. I don't even need to think about it.
>>3901350
I prefer the slower paceand loreof R-Type.
>>3902707
Nobody brought up tiny joysticks
^_^
R-Type of course. Complaints about the pace are superficial at best. Also don't blame the series for shitty console games, it's an STG series so only arcade games matter.
>>3901350
Gradius. I also liked that 3D version that was "hidden" in ZOE2 on the PS2.
>>3901771
>Konami did the same shortly after
They released that Bomberman game on Switch not long ago and they've been hiring for AAA PC/console development recently.
>>3901350
I'm a R-Type man. A lot of people are turned off by the deliberate pace but I love it. Everything that happens in an R-Type level is happening for a reason.
>>3903367
>Also don't blame the series for shitty console games, it's an STG series so only arcade games matter.
I get the complaints are targeting III and Final specifically, but anyone who is passing up Delta due to presumed pacing issues is missing out badly. It's easily the best in the series after the original.
I love them both, but I have to give it to Gradius. Scooting the Force around in R-Type can be a nuisance sometimes.
>>3901350
Gradius
Lightning force/thunder force
Shoot em ups achevieved perfection with thunderforce IV it's a scientific fact.

How fucking plebeian can you be? The pacing is an element of the atmosphere, helping set the overall tone of the game, inviting the player to take their time when playing, immersing himself in the enviroment, music, history and battle progression.
It's literally a core indentity feature of the franchise and what sets it apart.
Perhaps you should increase the dosage of youe adhd medication.
