I was in 5th grade and I wasn't using the internet at this point so I didn't find out until several months later when it was in EGM.

It's so strange to think about how fast we get our news now compared to back in the magazine days.

I owned both a PS1 and an N64 as a teenager. I think the only games I had were OoT and Smash Bros., but rentals were still a thing back then, so it was a lot more affordable to rent games I'd want to play on the N64. N64 games retailed at $60 and never saw any price drops ever. Meanwhile, I built up a nice library for my PS1 just investing in titles that hit the bargain bins years after release.

/vr/ loves to hate it because it is popular with normoids, but it still doesn't change that it was the best 5th gen console

the mobile versions have some serious graphical issues. most of it is nice, but the over world is lazy as fuck, and the text is pretty lame.

that said, I thought the sprites were a decent improvement, even if they were high resolution, on pixel backgrounds. the music is pretty much the SNES original, the story is unchanged, the translation is much nicer, and there are a bunch of extras, like a bestiary.

just, play it on your phone, not on a tablet, and it will look fine.

FF9 has a nice art style, but I didn't care much for the setting or characters. Everything was too linear, and the game had way too many FMVs and cutscenes constantly interrupting gameplay. They even added some "QTE" mechanic because the game was so over-saturated with cutscenes that no sane player would want to be subjected to them all in a single playthrough.

I'm sure you'll probably disagree, but I think FF8 had the most comfy setting. The art direction is the most realistic to date, even though it may not be very realistic to have flying Gardens and superhero characters.

Every now and then a system gets totally shat on way more than normal. I'd prefer it never happened at all, and it sucks, but there's not much you can do besides reporting consolewar shitposters.
