Just finished super mario bros on this. With save states for each level and regularly from world 7 onwards.

What a piece of annoying fucking bullshit. I mean yeah, if I played it in 1985 it would have blown my mind. But in 2017 it sucks. It just fucking sucks. 3 is still pretty damn good, I played it on gba.

Let's have a thread dedicated to discussion of sports games, mostly those that do not belong to any successful franchise (like FIFA, Madden, NBA Action and so on), yet are still worth playing. Tell us about your experiences or recommend some gems.

I'll start with Actua Soccer 3. Pretty solid title which is fast paced, has intuitive controls and a friendly learning curve - perfect thing to grab if you have someone to play with, but don't want to spend hours on learning fancy trick combinations or are not into detailed football tactics.

Incidentally, we are getting close to the Summer Cup 2017 - soccer competition played between the boards where each board prepares a team that represents their culture in form of customized players, sport kits and music. Event is played on heavily modified version of PES in AI vs AI coach mode and streamed live, so fans can watch and root for their favourite teams. /vr/ competes in this tourney since 2013 and still fights for that one and only title of champion.

When deciding on things like player names or music used as anthems or goalhorns, board input is the most important factor. If you want to learn a little bit more or share your opinions about the things we should use, please spare a few minutes of your time on voting in this poll:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeai56or272t_19qMKPtb-HI_lRv35eEVGSSKD1xcDfLgK2Pg/viewform?usp=sf_link

/vr/ will play the first match of this season on July 28 or 29, depending on the group and opponents we will draw. We value the feedback from the fanbase above everything else, and every vote and voice counts!

I learned the rules of American Football from playing Tecmo Bowl and Tecmo Super Bowl on the NES same with basketball through NBA Jam. Now I am avid fan of those sports in my country.

At this time I am not a fan of the ice hockey sport and don't want much to do with it, but maybe through the sheer fun (if the games are fun) of the games, maybe I'll gain an appreciation for the sport. I decided somewhat recently to see if I can replicate my learning experience with ice hockey. So I got NHL '94 on the SegaCD also grabbed NHL'14 on PS3 because it was $2USD, and I'm considering NES Blades of Steel or Nintendo's own Ice Hockey or even Wayne Gretsky's 3D Hockey on N64. Hope to find some fun in those games.
>>
Sensible World of Soccer has been quite a comfortable game to play/run simulations with.

>>4082976
With the Metroid remake announced I've delved back into playing the original title on Game Boy, really hoping to see Samus take the pitch and dawn the Varia Suit. Was very impressed with how the elite cup performance went.

>>4083081
Tecmo Bowl was what first got me interested in watching real American football. I wish it had come out a bit later to have included the expansion team that I root for. Really amazing at how fluid it plays with a standard D-Pad.

Where the hell are you looking? Expensive sure, but your typical superstar SNES title will average somewhere around 30 bucks, not 60. I got my whole SNES system in great condition for 60 bucks. If you're willing to play on SFC instead, the carts are half as expensive from resellers, I don't know why though.

A thread for discussion of games that completely confound you as to why they were ever made.

Pic related. It's time for another round of good idea, bad idea.
Good idea, making a sequel to Outrun, a super enjoyable game with a great soundtrack and features some of the most comfy visuals to date.
Bad idea, making it set in the future with a sub-par soundtrack and none of the charm.

Compared to Outrun maybe, but it's still great.

>none of the charm.
But double the RAD

Did you ever had some weird glitches or stuff on an original cardridge u never happen to see again or only you ever saw?

It happened to me once I played SMB 3 on the Super Nintendo.
I had a weird bug where I constantly getting new random powerups when i hit the buttons.
Like the shoe and fire flower, hammer guy etc. It looked also a bit glitchy because I got that shoe upgrade and hammer mario at same time and stuff.
So when Mario took damage he automatically shrink but got big again. I was nearly invincible and messed around with it until i died somehow.
Cant remember it perfectly...

Cardridge was a bit old/used like i had to blow the game 3 times and put something between cartridge and SNES so the game wont crash.

How is that possible?
Can it happen because the cardridge was too old/damaged?

Yeah, once when playing SMW; one of the chucks from Valley of Bowser 4, who throw rolling rocks at you, somehow dug a spiketop with weird colors instead of rocks. I paused the game and took a pic because I knew it would be unlikely to happen again.
>>
One time when I started up Zelda 2, my second and third files were gone, and the stats on the first file were glitched. Life, Magic, and Attack were all at 0, and pretty much every enemy I fought died in a single hit. Not sure if it was set to 8, or if it was higher than that.

Anyway, I saved and quit later that night, and that file was gone the next day, too. Every slot was empty. I was actually able to reproduce the glitch once, but never saw it again after that.

Anything over 9600bit/s on a VoIP line is going to be useless -- VoIP are like really, really noisy analog lines to modems. I already tried to access some dial-up BBS that way, shit is tedious at 4800 bit/s andbecomes unbearable when trying to dial at 14400 bit/s, that's why I still have an analog landline for that kind of applications.

Maybe the VoIP stuff he's using use a different protocol, but here using an analog modem over VoIP is trashy.

This. This is a sign that your console is a 2-CHIP, which means it has less glitches on some games than a later 1-CHIP console, but 1-CHIP consoles have better RGB video than 2-CHIP consoles, so take your pick.
I prefer the 2-CHIP any day.

But you posted the wrong model, anon.
>>
>>4077393
those models can be 2-chip or 1-chip. And my understanding is that overall, 1-chip is an upgrade due to the better RGB picture. I'll stand corrected though.

I have a 2-chip SNES, but it's PAL :(
