Battle Garrega was and still is better than Batrider. I'll just leave this up here...

How so? Soundtrack, artstyle, gameplay?
>>
For one thing, the colorful graphics for Batrider obscured a lot of the bullets. Not to mention BG's OST was a LOT better, especially in the stage where you take down all the cargo planes one after the other. The art style for BR was nice, I admit. Garrega felt a lot more satisfying to play through.

Battle Garegga had amazing music, the Mahou Daisakusen cast (Gains or Miyamoto are amazing on C mode), and the rank is way too smart, and the game was overall a major hype fest. I never played Batrider but i'd like too in the near future. But BG>DDP and Ikaruga

Is the New 3DS on its way to becoming the best way to emulate retro games?

Fuck Chink shit. The N3DS is where it's at.

So far it's proven to be quite shitty for the job, actually. The PSP remains the best handheld for that particular purpose.

>So far it's proven to be quite shitty for the job, actually
Why?

Also, OP, what is the state of (New) 3DS flash cards? Not having them was my reason for holding off buying one.

Also also, why the fuck did they call it "New 3DS"? Are they trying to be confusing? It's a different system, right?
>>
They're 400x240p stretched to fit the screen.

Nowhere near 4:3 aspect ratio.

I would, but my bluetooth controller has terrible latency with my raspberry pi 2 and it tends to "stack" commands for seconds at a time and then release them all at once. For the record the controller is a steelseries free which had latency issues with my laptop too. Does anyone know of bluetooth controllers that work with no latency on a raspberry pi?
Nice console setup btw OP, it looks very polished, kickstarter when?

oh wow, that sucks. I use pic related for my controller, it's just a keyboard made for the Pi. It works fine with most games, can be godawful for some PlayStation games and other ones with complicated control schemes though

As for my setup I plan on mass producing and selling them for 100 bucks a pop

So uh....what is the purpose of coins in Mario games? In Sonic rings prevent you from dying, what the hell do coins do?
62 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
when you get 100 you get an extra life.
Have you even played games?
>>
They only serve a purpose in the NES versions of SMB1 and SMB2J since extra lives are hard to come by. They do the same thing in every game after it but they throw lives at you constantly so you never run out.
>>
What purpose does collecting rings serve in Sonic? You're just as safe with 1 ring as you are with 50.

So I just finished this game after years of wanting to play it, and it was pretty... meh. Started out great and the whole idea of first person point-n-click adventure is pretty awesome, but it feels like the game was rushed and sometimes felt kinda empty. I also never got to use most of my inventory items. I heard that there's multiple solutions for the puzzles and I hope that's true, because otherwise this game is full of that infamous red herring.

Some of the motion captured 3D cutscenes looked unintentionally hilarious because the character models are blobby 90s 3D. Music was kinda repetitive and I felt like there weren't enough tunes, gladly the soundtrack is pretty good and catchy so I didn't really mind. The first person controls were pretty neat, though it was sometimes hard to notice some items that were slightly over your head or near your feet.

It still bothers me though because there's so many things and puzzles that left me wondering if they were just ignored due lack of time and/or budget.
Things such as (SPOILERS):
Sharkpoon
That bathroom in the prison hallway
What was the purpose of Kent washing his face in urinals?
Everything that happened in the laboratory. Why could you wipe your fingerprints from the extinguisher? What was the point of those keys you could use to open the empty closet? What was the deal with that shredder that didn't function? You could fit a cog there, but it needed one more and there is not a single other cog in the game.
that door in the factory with guard that wouldn't let you in without a badge, which wasn't the "Friend of Paul" -badge. You later in the game got a Norm-trooper badge but you can't leave that area and return to the factory. You find that badge minutes before winning the game anyway so what the fuck.

Kent was a very likable radical 90s dude, kinda like nonviolent version of Postal Dude. So, Normality thread.

I couldn't afford one even though I desperately wanted one and then seeing it sort of fizzle with minimal releases gave me a weird feeling of being kind of glad I "missed out" then seeing 32x, CDi, 3DO and Jaguar after it was the closest I ever came to thinking I had just outgrown video games.

Then Playstation made me believe again.

Yeah it didnt have that many games but there were some good ones. And besides back then CD Players were expensive as fuck so I used my Sega CD as a CD Player.

Does the lack of colour with composite make it more comfortable for them or something?
>>
>>3119336
If anything composite gives out more colors because it can tap from all the YUV color space.

By the way, I like RF for its simplicity and the fact that I can plug multiple consoles on the same set with minimal hassle (SNES doesn't really look all that bad).

The only thing to look out for is the optimal cable placement (I'm not entirely sure what causes the fuzz).

hello guys, I just bought a nes, the one in the picture

everything seems to be in working order and in very good condition, but the controller port doesn't seem to work

whenever I plug in one of the two controllers, I get some kind of input. for example, in world champion, the little arrow in the main menù goes down once everytime I plug in and out. then nothing more. it does the same thing with both the controllers.

I had a nes when I was very young, but I never had this kind of problem. any of you had this kind of problem? is my new nes screwed and should I ask for a refund? (good luck with that...)

i left my mega drive at my parents house. it sat in the garage for 10 years. both controllers were fucked when I got it back. every button would pause it. disassembled the controllers, cleaned all the contacts and the pcb with 99% iso alcahol and bobs your uncle, working controllers.
>>
>>3119331

but since the two controllers seem to be having the same exact behaviour, wouldn't it be fair to assume that it's the console's fault? tried to open the thing and it's all super clean on the inside, probably been cleaned not long ago. the seller says that it was working just fine, just a couple days ago, and he's got the best possible feedback. really don't know what to think about it.

I'm looking for something on SNES or Genesis akin to Elder Scrolls Arena. I want to explore(preferably in first person) and go on a sprawling adventure. I'm not sure if anything on those systems exist, but I thought I'd ask. Thanks.

Lol not even, the only games I can think of are probably Drakkhen or Wizardry.
Still, it would be cool to have a game like TES on SNES.
>>

Ya I can't say I'm surprised, I really just want something like that on my psp to emulate.

Get Elminage Original. Go for the European ISO, I believe it's patched. It's Wizardry in everything but name.

Yeah I think it's the second line that threw me off.
Like just post the twtter link after instead of saying something about seeing his name on the buyers order like you were the one to sell the music or something.

Anyways, yeah god tier soundtrack,.

This series caught my interest, but its obscurity and lack of translation made it very difficult to catch on in the west. Anyfan can give some background info on the game or the changes made in the remakes?
Also the image is very deviant from the other games in the series in terms of theme, just saying.

The only Far East of Eden product to leave Asia was the fighting game on the Neo Geo, as far as everything else goes they didn't even try to bring it over. Far East of Eden like many things, just wouldn't sell enough to warrant localization and it's already about something incredibly niche. I'm not saying it doesn't have it's appeal but that's usually a warning signal to publishers when looking for games to throw at a foreign market blah blah you probably know these things

In retrospect, I'm glad Konami was generous enough to release even one Goemon game over here and that Dragonball Z caught on the way it did.
>>
>>3119097
Guess you're right, it mostly comes down to appeal. The series seems to depend on a lot of Eastern lore and references, which most people either don't know of (me included) or it's not to their taste.

Also I miss Goemon.
>>
I only played the fighting game, pretty good stuff.

>>3119097
Konami released actually 5 Goemon games in the west.

This game was much better than FFT. Fight me.
31 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I agree. But you set the bar low because FFT was a horseshit, boring game.
>>
This game didn't have as much strategic elements. Positioning became almost irrelevant, as archers and ranged attacks were always available to the opposing force, as they typically had the high ground, while being unavailable to your team. Other than that one complaint, it was good. I don't think as good as FFT, though. FFT was challenging, but you still had the opportunity to set up advantageous positions more frequently, even if not all the time. In Vandal Hearts I rarely got to use archers to do anything. Mages weren't terribly useful, either. You were lucky to get a spell or two off with them the entire battle. Still not a bad tactics type turn-based strategy game, though.
>>
I love Vandal Hearts. My only gripe is that the Monk/Ninja and the Guardsman/Dragoon classes were pretty useless. I wish more games would implement units like the Hawknights/Airmen.

VCR + Composite to USB PC playback recorder.

Elgato game capture HD is really affordable and idiot-proof. I like the video quality, but if the signal drops it stops recording unlike a DV deck or something like that.

Works well for me on composite, s-video and component

This is from a Roxio vhs to dvd usb capture card, over s-video. The card accepts 480i video only, giving lower res games a blurry look.
