Anyone own a Retro Freak? I'm looking looking to get Genesis/Megadrive games, including some 32x. Is it able to play games from that peripheral yet?
Forgot to also ask, can it play reproduction carts? I have several SNES repro's
>>3147560
>does the shitbox that emulates old systems and plays ROMs play fake games?
>>3147503
Yes me and my wife love the Retro Freak!
Why is it the only one people still play?
Age of Wonders is better.
>>3146050
It's not as basic as 1 and 2. Neither is it retarded looking and slow like 4 and 5
What's with all the bad reviews? I love the first Baldur's Gate? Why are people shitting on the expansion?
From what I understand one of the writers is an SJW and there is a few things in the game that indicate that including
-Minsc saying "it's about ethics in heroic adventuring"
-a trans shopkeeper who won't shut up about being trans
-one of the characters is not "stronk independent women"
I haven't played it but from what I hear GamerGate really needs to calm the fuck down as they are beginning to sound like the very SJWs they despise. Do people not remember how much cringeworthy shit there was in the first BG. Minsc was practically an SJW before SJWs even existed
>>3117421
I still remember they had a Bob Newhart jokes.
>>3117421
>won't shut up about being trans
It's one line and not even the first thing she says to you. And yes there's a single mother party member you can romance.

What kills me about this is there will never be a decent BG discussion on /v/ again because the thread will devolve into culture wars BS even if it's not related to SoD.
My favorite Yu Suzuki game is __________?

Outrun 2k6, if not allowed then Outrun.
How did they fuck up things so badly?

Greed is a hell of a drug.
>>3151550
Zero quality control, also no real ideas after the 2600.
So which one do you prefer?
Real because I'm an adult with money.
>>3136505
For console games I prefer emulation because I don't like CRTs and like playing on the go.
For portable systems I usually prefer the original, but am fine with emulating as well.
>Emulated Hardware vs Real Emulation
I discovered today that I own over $1400 in Saturn games.
I honestly feel sick. I’ve owned these things for years. I love these games. Why does this hobby have to be filled with such scumbags? I want people to enjoy these games and not treat them as fucking investments. I understand games being a bit more than retail. Maybe around $150 or so. At least that’s within the realm of reason. But Shit like Burning Rangers being over $400 on ebay now? Wtf.
I want these games to go back to being borderline worthless. I’d like people to enjoy them. I can’t tell any younger person to play retro games.
>>3133389
Video games have been a lot better to me than women.
>>3133385
>I’d like people to enjoy them. I can’t tell any younger person to play retro games
Just tell them to install Pseudo Saturn and get an import copy if they really enjoy it.
>>3133407
I've never been a fan of pirated stuff.
You think Tron ever used her Servbots for sexual purposes?
I don't see how, what with that chastity crotchplate of hers.
That's dumb.

Is it?
Why was the Genesis sound hardware so weak?

The SNES one is just the same song except shitty and muffled. The Genesis one at least tries to sound original and more videogame-like.

FM synth.

Some games actually benefitted from the Genesis sound chip. The Earthworm Jim soundtrack for example sounds way...funkier than on the SNES, where it sounds like it's being played in a wool sock.

Has a Nintendo system ever pushed technology forward?
Bad b8, but I'll bite. The Wii was a good gimmicky hardware that inspired the motion gaming phase, for good or bad, the SNES hardware stomped the shit out of the competition, and the WiiU making use of the tablet (of which is criminally underused) is an example of making actual peripherals viable.
If your argument is only "lol these graphics r gud" then you're not saying much. Most ps1 games looked like utter garbage in comparison to the n64, but the FMVs were beautiful so who gave a shit.
desu supernintendo is more fun than playstation. play some yoshis island
Wii didn't inspire the motion phase lol, they just made it mandatory for developers, xbox and playstation had motion before. Wii is an old gimmick now...
So I'm playing System Shock 2 for the first time, and while still at the start (just got into the crew quarters on the second map) I'm totally baffled by the upgrade system. I knew there were going to be many options to fuck your future self but I had no idea, holy shit there's too many options here and nothing is even explained yet.
How bad is it if I just go on a hunch and invest in something wrong at this point? Is it one of those games where halfway in I need to re-roll my character because without level 4 research I can't get into a critical area, or without some psi ability I can't fight a formidable enemy? (i.e., VtMBL where not putting lots in firearms means a fucking nightmare in the sewers). If I invest nothing in hacking can I still succeed? If I don't invest in heavy firearms will I be stuck with pea shooters against the heavy hitters at the end?
I don't need spoilers, just need to know if I should consult a leveling guide or just go with the flow.
Also so far the game is kick ass and hearing a security camera bleeping at me makes my adrenaline run, the atmosphere is thick in this game. Good level design, too.
Standard weapons does have a heavy hitter in its category so you can invest in that alone as far as weapon skills are concerned and do just fine.
You will only need level 2 in research at one point to progress the game and you can easily breeze through the game without ever using psi. I personally didn't bother using psi so I could chug all the alcohol I want to recover HP.

Thanks! Although the thought of going all the way back to the first area from where I am now - crawling in the radioactive zombie-infested tubes in engineering - isn't exactly endearing since enemies seem to respawn and I'm almost out of ammo.
I really like the techno soundtrack so far. Though to be fair I'm playing with the remastered version of the songs through a mod (just the cleaner versions of them).
>>3144096
Enemies do respawn, and some areas have more extreme spawn rates than others.
I've never played a Tomb Raider game before. What's a good one to start with, or should I just play in release order? Which games, if any, are best avoided?
Play them in release order. None should be avoided, none are really terrible. II and III are the best ones. IV is the longest, V is the shortest.
>>3150724
>V
Having not played a Tomb Raider title before, I didn't even know they went up that high.
>>3150698
In release so you can appreciate how the series evolved. None of the Core Design games are bad at all, Chronicles is a bit weak but overall is still fun.
Avoid the Crystal Dynamics games like the plague though lol.
Why doesn't someone start a Kickstarter to make new Sega long CD cases out of high quality plastic? It's just plastic after all, and it couldn't possibly be more expensive than making knockoff controllers, which last I checked are everywhere.
The most common complaint I hear from Sega collectors, besides how rare copies of good Sega CD and Saturn games are in the West, is that the CD long boxes are hard to come by and are extremely brittle. People joke that they're probably made of sugar, but I've never licked one so I wouldn't know. Most Sega CD and Saturn games don't come with a case, and when they do it's usually broken. People will pay out the nose just to get those little foam safety pads that are supposed to come with the games, so you'd think there'd be a market for new CD cases that look like the originals but are stronger and easier to obtain.
Hoarders would shit their britches.
>>3147251
would be great for early PS1 games too
I need a replacement for my Raiden project case
>>3147324
Which PS1 games used long jewel cases? I've only seen the plastic and cardboard ones, probably because they have a better survivability rate.

Will this ever be preserved? Fucking hoarder culture man
>>3146515
no, because collectors don't actually care about video games.

never ever
Oh hey, this thread again. It's been a little while.
mario world was best mario game
>pic related
Yes.
Now here comes the closed-minded nostalgic Mario 3 fanboys to crash the party.
You know, the ones who somehow think the entire stage design of Super Mario World is one flat piece of ground you can fly over with a cape. (Sighs)
And because they can't understand how SMW is a superior game, they try to "rationalize" why others would like SMW more than SMB 3.
Even worse, they think everyone who does, is either under-aged or played SMW, first.
Super Mario World has tighter gameplay, better graphics, awesome music, and perfect replay value.
Does Super Mario 3 have more variety? Yeah, but so what. Super Mario World masters what it does, while SMB 3 is a jack-of-all-trades, but a master of none.
I loved SMB 3 back in the day, but it has become the most overrated retro game ever.
