Post the weakest character in a game.
When the best thing you can do is die then you're a pretty crap character.
I've been thinking, did the fifth generation of consoles really have any 3D platformers? A good majority of them, at least the ones on the N64, were more like 3D exploration games/scavenger hunts. There was lots of jumping around, sure, but I would not be comfortable calling Donkey Kong 64, for instance, a platformer, since the areas were huge flat surfaces for the most part with very few platforms and timed jumps required.
Pacman World, Crash and its clones, Rayman 2...
I agree, collectathons were their own thing.

Tonic trouble for the N64 is an underrated platformer.

Super Mario Land 1 and 2 not 64
This piece of fucking shit is emblematic of everything wrong with retro videogame scene today.
1) People who think that something that's rare should be more expensive because it's rare. No purpose whatsoever, never going to play with it, they just automatically think it's worth more because it's rare. "herp derp, well that's RARE so gee it must be worth more".
2) Marking Nintendo's decline from being at the top of the console market with a single console loss to the Playstation, to purple, underpowered consoles with no DVD/online and so on.
3) People who think videogames are a "toy". The N64 has the design of an adult machine. Anyone saying otherwise has some severe issues about trying to feel superior to others, most of the most highly successful people in the world are playing videogames now so you can kiss that fucken method of pretending you're superior to people goodbye. Nobody is a manchild by playing videogames, you are by getting this console.
4) Some stupid meme by hipsters that having a pokemon console is so ironic that it's cool again. The original Pokemon gameboy games are great, but the Pikachu console was for children. Nobody could legitimately like this as a console.
5) Resellers selling to one another in a circlejerk game of hot potatoe.
6) Millenials who were 4 when the N64 came out and this was their first console - self explanatory.
What sort of a person would want this? It disgusts me that a person would buy this when other people are having trouble paying for consoles and games.

I don't like it because feet creep me out.

Ian, relax. Although I kinda agree.

>1) People who think that something that's rare should be more expensive because it's rare.
Welcome to collector's items. Sorry you weren't aware this is how rarity works.
>People who think videogames are a "toy"
They literally are. If you have shame over being interested in toys that's your baggage, don't lump it on us.
>5) Resellers selling to one another in a circlejerk game of hot potatoe.
Again, sorry you got into the hobby of collecting collector's items without knowing anything about it. Can't help you though.
What is your personal cut off for what is retro? I don't mean the rules of the board don't apply but I am curious to hear about when you thought gaming had changed from what you grew up with.
Anything after 2000 isn't retro.
>>3135436
I personally believe three generations or more is considered retro in many respects. That would mean from sixth and later are not included (we're in the eighth generation now). So, PS1 and earlier are retro enough for me.
Personally, I grew up with a Model 2 and 3 Genesis and a handful of games, as well as a Game Boy. I swear, I loved the systems to death, and still have them stashed around my storage unit.
I would say everything pre-Xbox/PS2/GameCube is retro for me. I'm sort of young to be browsing this board (19), so Dreamcast feels like it was before my time.
What are some good retro games that play like Soulsborne games?
>>3135301
What makes a Soulsborne game? Can you list some criteria?
Castlevania or Metroid, maybe?
>>3135301
This is probably the closest you'll come; at least as far as 2-D games go
Gothic atmosphere, eldritch abomination bosses, combat has an emphasis on rolling and finding the right time to attack, notable for it's difficulty. It's hub world reminds me of the Nexus, too.
Getting the obvious out of the way
Does anyone else feel bad about the primitive, inferior non-games that Americans had to play on their home computers?
>>3133409
We didn't givea shit about computers when we had consoles with better games, that ran at the proper refresh rate to boot. Nice troll though, faggot.

This thread again? Give it a rest, OP. Your penis will remain small no matter how many times you post it.

Let's discuss the Sonic Adventure trilogy.
Primarily the /vr/ two, but Sonic 06 can lead to interesting discussions on an attempt at a continuation of the Sonic Adventure mechanics in seventh gen.

Am I the only one that enjoyed Heroes more than the Adventure trilogy?
>Let's discuss the Sonic Adventure trilogy.

What?
Sonic 06 is the worst game ever made. Don't care about your hipster ET shit. A company like SEGA has no excuse for releasing that pile of shit.

ITT: things that were put in games just to sell guides

A guide is a great companion to a game.
You get the full experience of any truly great game with a guide, graph paper, and the manual.

That's nothing you couldn't figure out through trial and error. It's not that difficult to figure out.

What's the verdict on the Mega Man Legacy Collection?
It's shit.
It's great, highly recommended.
That you're paying for actual ROM files and there is absolutely no reason to pay money for the same files you and just go out and download.
If you absolutely have to have a mega man collection, get the Anniversary Collection (PS2 version preferably) That way you also get 7, 8, and the two arcade games.
What do you think of this chart?
Also post charts.

It is a fine chart, skillfully crafted through 1,700 painstaking hours in MS Paint.
>Mother (j)

>jap only RPGs
*Vapes mouth fedora* A very well constructed list.

Can we get one of these threads going?
Was watching season 10 of Trailer Park Boys last night. Cory and Jacob were playing an N64 with a GC controller and the standard sounds of Pac man 2600.
Wayne's World: Sonic beta
Beethoven: simultaneous 2-player SMB3 (ha), featuring the Power Glove
ITT: weird/obscure commercial expansion packs and mods
Pic related is D!Zone, a series of CD's that were purported to contain a shit ton of levels (mostly around 150, and some between 1000 and 3000). According to the wiki, these numbers were rounded up, included duplicates (separate maps for Doom 1 and Doom 2), often crashed, and were generally just shitty amateur maps.
The company is WizardWorks, they made some more of these weird disks.
Apparently they also made:
>H!Zone for Heretic/Hexen
>Duke!Zone for Duke 3D
>Q!Zone for Quake
They also made F!Zone, an expansion to Fury3. I played it not too long ago, it was fine. It had a kind of level editor, too.
They made a couple W!Zone's for Warcraft 2.
ITT: retro games that were too hard for casual scrubs.
So 95% of pre 5th gen.
>comic zone
>hard
the only "hard" thing was figuring out the rat partner thing and when to use it, like a point and click adventure. Game mechanics weren't hard, the game just felt a bit stiff to play, but great visuals and graphics.

Great visuals AND graphics?
