Alright so I'm sending my step-son on a plane to visit family back at home, what would an unaccompanied minor need to get through an international flight (GCC to the UK), assuming he already has a visa and a flight booked?

A letter from his guardians? Physical presence of his guardians at the entrance/etc.? Phone confirmation?
>>
>>1201166
Back when my kids were minors, needed a letter from their mother if I was taking them on a plane, so yeah, having a letter from any and all guardians would be likely -- to be sure, because rules ay have changed since I was doing this, or may be different between countries, contact the airline and ask them. what they will require. If the return is going to be a similar situation but with a different airline or point nation of embarkation, ask about that as well.

Going to the Philippines in april, heard pick pockets are a big problem. Any ideas on ways to avoid this? I was thinking of a pouch i could wear around my neck that would be flat enough to fit flush under my shirt. Any ideas?

Carry a fake wallet.
Keep important documents and money hidden and hard to access (in your shoes, that neck pouch thing, a leg pouch under your shorts/trousers or in your underwear).
Keep only enough money for small transaction somewhere easy to access.
>>
Also, never pat wherever you're hiding your money/documents to check if it's still there. You may be tempted to do this if you see some kind of warning about pick pocketers in the area (a sign or whatever).
Patting just shows the pickpocketers where you're hiding the dough. (if you want to pat, pat the fake wallet)
>>
>>1213948
Thanks man, thats solid advice definitely gonna keep a fake wallet and try to find a pouch or something online

Who here has moved internationally?

Where from/to?
How did you find it?
Are you still there?
How did you chose where to go?

I'm stuck in Australia and so don't fucking belong here. It's hot, racist, the government fucking hates the arts (I'm a muso) and the sun is trying to kill me one skin cancer at a time.

I have no real plans, I just know I can't stay here.

Warsaw doesn't deserve that much, Berlin can be bumped down to 3 or 2 and divert a day to Dresden or Leipzig, and if possible I would really recommend visiting Krakow.

Hey /trv/!
I'm flying to Sofia next Tuesday and will travel around the Balkans for ~3 weeks. So far I only know I want to visit Dubrovnik at some point and maybe end the trip in Slovenia.
Do you have any advice on other places that are a must-see or boring cities I should avoid?
I'd like to visit some smaller more "authentic" towns, too (as long as they're easily accessible by bus). Will it be hard to get by with English there?
Do you have any recommendations for beaches and beautiful lakes (Lake Bled is nice, right?)? I really like swimming and I don't care if the water's a little cold.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Dubrovnik is definitely a must-see imo. Hike to the top of mount Srd at sunset for an unforgettable view. And always use tripadvisor before eating at a restaurant, this way you will not get scammed. I Really enjoyed lake Ohrid (Macedonia), Skopje was not really worth it. Try to avoid Pristina!
>>
Bosnia you should also visit.
The forests above Sarajevo are breathtaking, like going up to Bjelasnica for some burek and kefir, looking at the nature, so good.

The water in Bosnia is so clean, makes you speechless.

Like even under the bridge in Mostar you can see the bottom of the river clearly. People are nice, it's also a good irl reminder of how wars fuck up everything and anything (talking about architecture in Sarajevo, too). It was also interesting to be in a country with a lot of Muslims that is not Muslim in its organization or rules at all.

Bulgaria:
Sofia and Plovdiv are a must.
Veliko Tarnovo would be very, very nice.
Varna is alright for beaches, but not really the season (starts May).

You can keep it central by visiting Strelcha or Velingrad - spa towns for locals.

If you plan on moving down to Greece/Macedonia, I'd recommend the following:

Rila Monastery is definitely a sight to behold, visit Gotse Delchev.
It doesn't get any more authentic than that lol. There is a nearby Delchevo which is actually a nice underrated hill village.

Sandanski and Bansko are also down south, you can catch some skiing.

Hey folks,

Would love some advice of course, any first hand experiences would be wonderful!

I am wanting to know about applying (a second time) for a working holiday visa for NZ. I first entered the country on a British passport.
I am thinking about getting an Irish passport and applying for another working holiday visa. Of course this will involve a couple of white lies on the form and me also shitting myself when trying to get into the country.

I plan to work the same job as I did before, name and everything will be the same, however, I won't be British I'll be Irish and have my Irish passport..

It would be a brand new Irish passport I would be arriving with and I'd be arriving from India, don't know if that makes a difference!

Anyone know what the deal is with this idea, is it possible? I'm sure someone has tried this before..

Thank in advance, peace!

Why would you get an irish passport if you have a british one? british one would just make it easier for yourself
>>
Unfortunately in order to come back into the country for a second year on my British passport isn't that easy. I must have a full medical examination, proof from the employer they couldn't hire a NZ citizen and pay again.
It's much cheaper to come in on an Irish passport!
>>
>name and everything will be the same
change the name in your Irish passport. At leat the spelling.

Anyway I think this should be doable.

Does Shangri-La exist?

Can someone recommend me the most beautiful tropical place to hike? The type you see in movies with amazing wildlife and beautiful waterfalls.

I’ve hiked in Hawaii but it still felt like I was in a tourist place. I’m looking for a more remote Garden of Eden. For starters, I’ve seen images of Belize and Indonesia that look amazing. Any more recommendations??

I've never been myself but I know a couple of people that went to St. Vincent and the Grenadines and they said it was absolutely stunning
>>
Isn't there an extremely high risk of being bitten by something venomous, like snakes or spiders, when hiking in such a tropical place?

I've never understood how it can be safe walking around in rain forests in South America or something like that
>>
>>1214060
Contrary to your fears, venomous creatures don't hunt people, and actively avoid them. The vast majority of bites occur when someone stumbles around in the dark and accidentally steps on something. Nothing jumps out in the middle of a trail when they see a human coming and think "time to eat!". Same goes for big jungle predators barring a starving leopard or any tiger because they don't give a fuck.

I leave in a week to Spain, and will be there for about 6 weeks. In that timeframe I will do the basic city slicker stuff, see some fun sights, but ultimately the bulk of my journey will be walking the walk.

Who else done this? How was it for you? Favorite places? How much did you spend?

I did the Camino del Norte in 2015, was a great experience. I was really positively surprised by how relaxed people were, no religious nuts and a nice atmosphere. Thought the Northern route was perfect during summer with regards to the amount of people, and i doubt that the French Way is more crowded right now, than the Northern route is during summer, so you should be good.

I couldn't imagine doing it during winter/early spring, for me a big part of the experience was walking around in really nice and hot weather in the beautiful surroundings. How come you've decided to do it now?

>How come you've decided to do it now?

I am a wildland firefighter, so i work exclusively in the summer and am off work in the winter.

In addition, there was a fantastic flight deal, 500 roundtrip international, which is the best i've ever gotten so far.

Lastly, i don't really care that much about the weather. I like the physical discomfort and the pain as part of the experience, as my work is nothing but being outside in miserable conditions anyway. Snow and rain doesn't bother me so much when I have an albergue and friendly faces, whereas my job has been to deal with the same but then go to sleep on the ground.
>>
>>1213718
Ah alright, then you should be all good. I'm sure you'll get some nice views at this time of the year also. The Northern Route follows the coast most of the way, so it's probably also the one of the two that's better to walk during summer anyways.

Shit, 500 from the US is really fucking cheap.

I'm sure Santiago will be a great experience for you, given that it won't feel as touristy as when I was there, the church was full to the brink and it was even being restored on the outside.

I'm young and have money. Supposedly that means I should travel.

I've traveled with family and I've traveled with friends, in the US and abroad. I can't look back at a single experience and say "yes, this was desirable, this was worth it".

Am I doing it wrong? Should I travel somewhere calm and slow by myself and walk around like Rick Steves? Am I doomed to disliking it forever? Is travel a big fat meme?

Try traveling alone.

I was in the same shoes as you. There was nothing fun about having mom & dad hold my hand for me, and traveling with friends was kind of annoying, because we only saw what they wanted to see.

When I traveled by myself for the first time in my life, I was blown away. It was an amazing experience that I still cherish to this day.

Try travelling alone, it's a very different experience. If that isn't fun either, just forget about travel. It's not for you and there's nothing wrong with that.

Many people ask about whether or not the JR Rail Pass is worth it. It depends on your itinerary.

Plug your itinerary into Hyperdia to determine ticket costs, then compare to the below JR Pass options:

Firstly, you have a whole year to plan this, so this isn't so urgent. As well, you have not told us how much time you have to spend, so it is difficult to tell you what to see, it is better to not try to take on all of the things Europe has to offer in one trip, simply because then you'll just hit a city for a day, see some tourist traps and then bounce, wearing yourself out and not really getting a feel for any of the places. In addition, you've said nothing about how long you're staying, so that affects things a lot.

Most importantly, you've not told us more about yourselves, when you first conceived of your Euro vacation, why Europe? What were the things you have in your head that pushed you toward that? Good food is a matter of taste, and everywhere in Europe is historical.

Why do so many americans think international travel is prohibitively expensive?

I am an american and everyone jokes at me for being "rich" for taking 2-3 international vacations a year. I normally go for 10 days and spend between $1500-$2000 for the entire trip. I did some looking online for "how much for a european vacation" and I found multiple sites saying it cost $4-$6000 for 2 weeks of travel in Europe. Where do people get these numbers? When I travel I stay in 3-5* Hotels (cheaper the country the nicer the hotel) and I am nowhere near these prices. Is it simply because people are too lazy to plan it themselves and let travel agencies do it?

>>
>spends 6k a year on vacation
>not rich

Pick one Jose
>>
You probably are rich if people say you are.

Besides people are idiots, always remember that. I watched a YouTube video of a girl explaining why China was such a bad and horrible place to visit and about how it was so expensive and just not worth it. However;

>She paid a travel agency more than £3k for the holiday
>She was upset with locations/hotels
>She was upset that people didn't speak English

Honestly the review was largely just "I'm annoyed because I spent a lot of money and didn't get a nice hotel". I relocated to Asia with £1k. I think generally (self included) people just don't really think that much, and don't really plan that much. Luxury hotels are the same wherever you go, but also if you're not willing to actually look for decent places to go then you're stuck paying the super pricey prices.

It's like in my native London, so many people stick to the city centre, so many people don't even bother trying to find the few smaller, reasonably priced places that are left there. People pay £4 to go two stops on the tube or something shit like that. Ignorance mostly.
