Just rode my first Amtrak this weekend. The ride itself was fun, but sleeping on those trains is impossible. I was in a friend's sleeper car top bunk, and I was tossed around so much that I could never fall asleep.

Are trains normally so bumpy?

>>
unless you're riding a maglev there's going to be some bumps

think american track might be worse because it's mostly for freight

rode amtrak once for 60 hours, might have slept for 8 of them
>>
What route did you take? I'd love to hear more about your (or anyone else's) Amtrak experience. I have it in my head that I'd really like to go on a long train ride one of these days, but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise.

Trains in Europe are usually way smoother than Amtrak from my experience. Although that experience is pretty much limited to the Bay Area capitol corridor.

Hi! i have been living in the hague for all of my life, and sometimes i discover places or spots that i have never seen before!

If any hague people want to share some secret spots or awesome stores go ahead!

Hoi, I work in Den Haag but don't know any hidden spots (yet) could you share any of yours?
>>
I only know that Chinese food in Den Haag >>> Chinese food in Amsterdam. Also restaurants in general seemed more interesting.
The only thing is that I find the beach near the Hague extremely depressing. Otherwise it's great.

My only Den Haag tip is lame... Even if you have an appointment with the Chinese visa centre, go there earlier than the opening time if you are in any sort of rush. 10 mins before the opening time there's gonna be a big line already. They also do drop in, though, and they have a computer, printer, copy machine, you can use them all.

I'm highly considering Driving to south america, My only issue is going around the darien gap. I don't feel like fishing out 800 bucks just to have them ship my car 60 miles to get into south america. Colombia at one time was willing do dump millions into connecting the highway over the gap but panama is afraid of drug trafficking.

What would be the best places to go visit in SA.? I'm thinking i want to go to Chile or Argentina but open for other options Except Venezuela.

What countries give you the best bang for your buck? (i.e. Are very cheap coming the USA and also aren't currently engaged in active armed conflict?)

Asking from a perspective to travel also to move, so where, with small savings, would be the best place to move to set yourself up to basically be filthy rich (relatively).

My initial thoughts are somewhere in Africa or the Eastern Middle East.

maybe Turkey

I want to take my camera somewhere cool, and I'm also considering looking abroad for a wife. The Philippines is a contender, but I'm getting mixed messages on the expenses.

One anon says to live Western, you have to (monthly) spend more than my normal living budget at at home ($1200-1400). I mean, shit, I know I live on the 'poverty line', but that doesn't seem to be what others are saying.

More common, I've heard $300-500 for a month. This seems more realistic, if you can have the equivalent (or an actual) Mcdonalds for a dollar or so.

Yet, my main question is more one of curiosity. If the average wage for a native is like $20-40 a month, do they eat bugs and drink their own piss or something? Because the 'gap' between native pay and holiday costs seems to go beyond even the idea that 'holidays are expensive, bro.'

Could you take $10k and live decently for a decade, if you lived to their standards? Because frankly I might one day triple that, marry there, and stay. (The location is an example, I'm just considering where I could take my meager funds and live out my middle and retirement years. I simply won't have enough for any decent standard of living in the west.)

Just chatter on the various 'so, you want to go on holiday to/move to' pages. If it's incorrect, blame them. It's beside my over all point/confusion anyway. I don't get how someone can spend over a thousand bucks a month, which is literally over a third more than I even earn, and consider it cheaper living.

It doesn't go along with 'going to a 3rd world country to live cheaper/have a cheap holiday' unless they are literally renting a 10 bedroom house to themselves and eating lobster every night.

Last year, we did some threads of theme-based travel pictures, and they seemed to go pretty well. Let's try again. We've done things like "On the Water" or "Wildlife," let's try something more general here -- post your Golden Images, featuring golden colors. And mention where you took the picture, since this is a travel board and all.

Posting a few to start it off...

Hello /trv/ !

I'm planning a two week trip to Iran mid-April. If anyone here has ever been to Iran, I have a few questions:

- I'm planning to go to Tehran, Isfahan and Chiraz. Are 2 weeks enough to visit eveything ? What was your itinerary ?
- Do you know any good hostels in those 3 cities ? (Not too far from the main sights, money is not a problem)
- Is it safe for a 20 something female to travel there solo ? I'm Arab (Moroccan) so I could pass for a local I guess, but I can't speak farsi and Arabs are not very liked there I heard.
- Do you recommend going through the hassle of asking for a visa beforehand or is the Visa On Arrival reliable ?

Any other tips are welcome, of course.

Thanks in advance !

I was there two weeks mid-April last year. Only spent a day in Tehran (and I was glad to get out, it's too big for my taste and harder than the rest of the country to enjoy as a tourist). Stayed in Kashan and Yazd as well as Isfahan and Shiraz, with a few stops on the way (Abyaneh, Persepolis, Kharanaq...). Felt incredibly safe the whole time, met a few females traveling solo. VOA worked fine for me ; you have to show that you have insurance for the trip. They got my fingerprints, which took some time, but that's because I'm French and the French government decided to take the fingerprints of Iranians coming into France. Other travelers got their visa pretty quickly. Not sure if passing for a local is an advantage, as most people were incredibly helpful to foreigners, but not speaking farsi isn't a problem. No one will try to scam you, except maybe on Meidan Emam in Isfahan, but the scammers are approximately 100 times less obnoxious than those from your country.

The shitty part is that going to Iran effectively means saying goodbye to US visits if you had any planned.

Hello all

So i have come to 4chan in need of help, not sure if this is the right place to post but i am literally at my wits end and dont know what else to do.

I am currently living and working in South Africa (South African citizen with a South African passport) and I am trying to get out of this country.

First prize would be Europe but Canada, Australia and New Zealand would be completely fine too.

In order to get into Europe I need a job offer and then the company needs to sponsor me with a "work permit" which I can only get if they can prove that no one else in the country can do the job, the same applies for the other mentioned countries above as far as I know.

I am a relatively skilled network engineer with quite a few years experience but I just seem to keep hitting brick walls and dead ends. I have spoken to recruitment agencies, have been applying for jobs for over 6 months and spoken to multiple immigration agencies and lawyers but nothing seems to change.

Please if anyone can help or give advice or even point me in the right direction I would be so grateful.

Please help I am fucking trapped :(

If you are an actual engineer, Australia should be fairly easy to get into. You might have to work in the middle of Australia, in a mine somewhere, but there are a ton of jobs for engineers here. Try rio tinto there are a ton of safa's working for them already
>>
>>1212130
Are you white? If so you might have an express way out of South Africa.
>>
Fellow Saffa here.

I recall using a recruitment agency to get me a job at a vegetable packaging warehouse in the UK. Granted I have a Dutch passport, so it made things a lot easier.

So besides finding yourself a wife from said desired country; I would suggest to keep applying for a working visa at any of the countries you're looking to move to. Unless you want to take your chances with the likes of Canada as a refugee trying to escape the "swart gevaar".

I'm going to Peru, Argentina and Brazil in a month. Redpill me on these countries /trv/

I've been everywhere in the world and Argentina is by far my favorite. Nightlife is amazing. The architecture is beautiful. People are the best looking I've seen in my life. Make sure to meet as many argentinians as you can, everyone I met there is amazing. Don't let the safety warnings slow you down (just be on your guards like anywhere else and don't flash your money/cell phone).

Peru is fine, just nothing exceptional.

Brazil can be great or shit, depending on where you go. It varies a lot.
>>
Peru has lots of cool tourist stuff to do. Cuzco, the sacred valley, and Machu Picchu are genuinely quite awesome to see, it's not just hype. I've heard Huaraz is cool too, if you're into hiking. Skip Lake Titicaca, Arequipa, etc. - it's nothing special.

The culture and people in Peru are more indigineous and totally lack the spice and attractiveness of most of the rest of south america. But anyway, go on Tinder in Lima, they're generally underwhelming (can be cute, but plain and boring) but LOVE white guys.

Brazil has the coolest culture I've ever seen. The people are the most vivacious and fun to be with. But outside of Sao Paulo (and the people that deal with tourists in Rio) they rarely speak english or spanish. You can sort of get by if you speak solidly conversational spanish, though, via portunhol.

Pay attention to the safety warnings in Brazil, especially in Rio. Go to Rio when nice weather is forecasted, it's a waste when it's cloudy or rainy or cold.

Fuck some brazilian girls while you're there, it's usually an amazing experience. I've dated girls from all around the world but there's nothing like the brazilians.

Are you authorized to stay in Norway?
Do you have copies of all your valid documentation to provide to the agent?
Do you have bank statements that are not older than 3 months old?
Do you have proof of employment and a payslip that is not older than 3 months?
Do you have references from a boss and/or your previous landlord?

Of course I'm, got all legal documents with me. The thing is I'm traveling there to work, but agency for which I work offers only bad housing for now. Thats why I'm asking for some pages where I could find housing myself

I'm planning to go to Malaga at the end of march. I'd only stay for 2 and a half days.
What are the things I need to see?
I'm also interested in hiking. Is the area good for hiking? Does anybody know anything about the weather in that time?
I'd appreciate any tips!

You're planning to go the the city of Malaga or the province of Malaga ? Cause your pic is Ronda, a town a fair bit away from the city Malaga. Also i wouldn't recommend hiking in this time of year but wait until Spring
>>
>>1213131
oh, I just picked a nice image from google image search. I'm afraid I can't go too far from Malaga city because of the short stay. Do you think the city itself is worth it?
>>
There's a national park north of the city where you can hike around some nice Mediterranean forest. I rented a car so I don't know how you'd get there otherwise; there's probably a bus.
Looking at google maps it looks like there are some more impressive mountains near the coast a little further to the east.

Winter is a great time to hike in Andalucia in my experience.

Planning a trip to Hawaii? Don't wanna look like a fucking tool while you're here?

Ask away.

Hmm... what's the point of this thread exactly?
I mean everyone going to Hawai goes there for the beaches and the nice mountains/jungles

What tips do you have to share?
>>
>>1210204

Right, so let's just look up "beaches in Hawaii" and go to the first result, huh? You do realize Hawaii has six whole islands you could (legally) visit? Granted, most people will just visit Oahu or Maui, but depending on the kind of sights you want to see or the activities you want to do, the island you'll want to visit could be completely different from what you originally planned.

Not to mention the beaches you'll find recommended to you are probably filled to the brim with tourists so you'll be stepping on glass or a cigarette butt every two feet (if you can even find parking or get through traffic to reach it), so if you're planning on visiting the beaches then you'll want to know which are the best according to locals, when the best time to go is, and which beaches get the most jellyfish so you know to avoid those too.

There's seriously so many things to learn about Hawaii before going here. It's not just "beaches and nice mountains/jungles".

Not to mention it'll be handy to know how not to get ripped off at every turn, which happens even to people that think they're "smarter" than the average tourist. I've worked in the tourism industry here, and boy, let me tell you. I've sold enough 25 dollar boxes of mac nut chocolate (that are maybe 5 bucks at walmart) to last me a lifetime.
