Thinking about travelling to Southeast Asia this summer with some friends, not sure which route we should take however.
We are thinking about staying there in 3-4 weeks, and I want a route where I can experience as much as possible in that time. We want to experience culture, nightlife, nature wildlife and adrenaline.
Places I want to visit the most; Chiang Mai, Luang Prabang, Bangkok, Angkor Wat, Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh, Ha Long Bay, Bagan, Hanoi etc.
The picture is the route I am thinking of travelling, but I am afraid 3-4 weeks isn't enough time to really experience the places of interest.

Feel free to contribute any relevant information or pictures

If someone have any alternative routes that would be great! Would really like to hear other people that live in SEA or have backpacked there before.

I was mostly interested in Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, but am also interested in Myanmar and Laos if the route is worth the trip. More recently I also have been more open to the idea of travelling to Malaysia or Indonesia.

If anyone have any ideas, thoughts, experiences or routes, feel free to add relevant information such as transportation, adrenalin activities, wild life resorts, cultural happenings and so on.

Also, this is an general SEA thread, not a request. Contribute anything relevant as you wish
>>
4 weeks is too little time to experience whole Vietnam. Cambodia can be done in 3-5 days. Thailand 1-3 weeks, depending on what you want to do.
>>
>>1209840
I recently started realizing that. Do you have any suggestions for a better route? We can't stay much longer than 4 weeks, so we want to experience as much as we can in that time.

Thinking about Chiang Mai - Bangkok - Angkor Wat - Phnom Penh - Ho Chi Minh

What size / model bag does /trv/ recommend?

I am going on a year long trip mainly in warm climates, what does /trv/ recommend? I was looking at the osprey farpoint 40/55 because Google tells me it's a good bag, what does /trv/ think.

If you aren't living out of a tent then 40 litres should be enough, especially in warm climates. I lived out of my 40 litre bag for 3 months (if you can live out of it for 3 months I'm sure you can live out of it for any amount of time) and I had bulky sweaters and long pants with me.

As for brands, Osprey seems to be pretty reliable. Kelty is pretty good too but a little on the pricey side I think.

I used this one for no other reason than that I already had it, but it's cheap, reliable, and about 40 litres when you cut out the laptop sleeve.

Absolutely love my Osprey Farpoint 55. It's great to have the daypack included with the larger bag (ie. 40L is the large pack and 15L is the small pack that zips on).

It has locking zippers, is extremely comfortable, is large enough for plenty of things if you don't overpack, and I've never been denied carrying the large pack as a carry on (just unzip the small pack and switch the large into carry on mode, it looks smaller. Then the small pack counts are your personal item).

Can't speak highly enough about that bag. My only complaint is lack of compartments, but a simple cube system can fix that.

>>1209401
Kelty is a good brand as well, but they are actually much cheaper than Osprey, not more expensive. The Redwing 50 is very popular and available on Amazon for cheap. Only thing I don't like is lack of locking zippers, but not generally a huge deal.

Don't overestimate the size of the bag you need, 50-50L is plenty to life off, specially in a warm climate.

American travel virgin here. My best friend and I are planning on visiting Thailand but unsure about how the backpacking life works. Do you guys reserve hotels/hostels or just go in and rent them the day of. We're pretty social people so I was thinking hostels would be more fun. Also would 1500USD per person be enough for Transport, food, bed, and hookers for two weeks?

Reserve your hostel(s) in advance.
>>
>>1211784
Just stay in normal hotel rooms. They are like $18 a night so there is no reason to slum it in a hostel with some numale "backpackers". You will want privacy with your hookers of course.

$1500 for 2 weeks should be ok but that is assume "transport" is not including airfare.
>>
>>1211793
Yeah I took airfare out of the equation. Good point with the hookers and having a private hotel. I'm pretty much a go with the flow type of person so reservations kind of fuck with me. Like >>1211787 said how imperative is it to reserve a hotel/hostel vs just walking in? Do rooms fill up fast or what?

I'm going to Philadelphia mid-March for about 4 1/2 days. (Land at 5 PM Wednesday, won't have much time Sunday to do more than pack and have breakfast with friends.)

It's my first time. I don't know where I'm staying yet, but downtown is most likely. What should I go out of my way to see/do? I mainly like to drink and try new foods, but I'm also willing to see some history and such.

What should I see? What should I avoid? It's also St. Patrick's Day that Saturday, so I'll mostly be in bars.

I mean half the population lives in southern Ontario, Toronto and the surrounding area is where the majority of people are therefore so are of he jobs.
Vancouver is nice but kind of boring and ridiculously expensive nowadays.
Montreal is an icehell during the winter but rent is cheap.
Alberta is beautiful but I hated Calgary when I went.
Do you have a school you're enrolled in or what? Waterloo and western university have good engineering programs from what I hear.
Tbh I wouldn't advise moving to Canada but I'm biased and I suppose Mexico is about to go into a recession due to all the trump stuff.
Do you any other options?

How the hell did you manage to save up 100K canadian as a mexican??

PS: if you're not willing to learn french, you'll have a very hard time finding work in Quebec as a civil engineer

Anyone with knowledge about Sardinia here? I have some questions

How different is Sardinia from mainland Italy?
Is Alghero in Sardinia a nice city?
Any special places around Alghero that is recommended to visit?
What's the normal price for let's say a pizza and a beer on Sardinia?
Can you buy alcohol in regular stores, and if so, for how much?
What's the price of cigarettes?

>>
I was in Alghero about 8 years ago. I really liked it, it's a nice, small, cozy town. Not much of a party atmosphere, more for relaxing. There's a cave nearby worth seeing. Sardinia is somewhat different, many people want more autonomy/independence from Italy, but it's not violent like their northern counterparts. They have their own language, Sardinian, though everyone speaks Italian as well. Note that for historical reasons, many in Alghero actually speak Catalan.

Your other questions I can't answer. It wasn't very expensive as far as I can remember.

Hi. everyone in 4chan, I am Japanese .
This is first time I use this web site and i am sorry for my bad English.
What do you guys think of Japanese stationeries?
Is it good or not? You can buy these useful stuff in your country? What Japanese stuff is good for souvenir you think? Have you ever bought any of these in japan?

If you have a time, please give me answer.

M8, don't be condescending just to try to flex your Japanese ability no one cares. Clearly his or her English is quite fine, and saying "I'm sorry my English is bad" is just a very humble Japanese thing to do.

You know how gaijin get mad when they try to speak Japanese to Japanese people and Japanese people default to English anyway?

You're doing that. Stop being a knob.

The black indicates acceptable, and red indicates desirable.

Any advice/suggestions and or redpills/knowledge for me anons? -- I have two AA degrees that relate to the outdoors, as well as 4 years experience on the job, which is why i hope to move to the region.

Thanks in advance contributors

Let me make an amendment.

I want to move to the midwest based upon laws and culture, demographics and ideology.

The red/black ovals just representatives of the areas that have the traits that i desire to live in, that also don't get too freakin` humid.

I'd love to live in the deep south, but i can't get that humid and hot for too long.

Of course you can, although leave the northern part and the alps for july and august only unless you have many years of experience.

You do need to take me with you, though, I really want to take time off from work to do something like this, but wouldn't want to go alone. I have a lot of gear prepared, too, good at wild camping etc.
>>
>>1210981
I wonder how much time this path might take on foot.. 3 months?
It's probably around 3k km... Daily you can make maybe ... 50 km? So actually it would only be 2 months. But is 50 km/day achievable? Some paths are hard and I doubt you can make that through Alpes.

Just random thoughts, I hate hiking.
>>
>>1210981
I doubt it's a good idea to hike through highly populated areas in Germany. I would buy a train ticket from Sweden or Denmark to Alps

Sri Lanka, 3 weeks in March..
Hello fellow /trv/lers.
Im going for 3 weeks, landing in Negombo, going to head south stopping along the way to Galle, then up to Kandy before heading back to Colombo... What do I see along the way, nearby places I should know about. Anyone familiar with the trains? Someone told me I need to book in advance...

you have a tour guide?
and its less of a hassle if you book in advance
>>
I did that same route in reverse, but in half the time.
I did a whale watching tour from Mirissa which was good.
Didn't have time to go to the animal safari park that's down in that area, but it looks cool.
Overall if I'd had more time I think I would have rented a bicycle or motorbike and just fucked around the countryside meeting people and eating weird food.
I don't think you need to book in advance for trains.
>>
Take the seaplane from Kandi back to Colombo, that's my advice. The roads are windy and it takes a long time to get everywhere.

Between the south and Kandi is Nuwarra Elia and a few other mountains, which deserve to be checked out.
