Who /multiclass/ master race here? Doing 3.5 with a Fighter/Rogue

>tfw went for 16 STR and WIS

>then keep lvling rogue to rack up them sneak attacks and wis skills

That's nice, but it's nowhere near masterful where 3.5 is concerned. Have fun, I guess?

That's not exactly a good example of 3.5 multiclassing.

Hello /tg/,
I was working on a personal project of mine, then I had this strange lightbulb idea of using standard playing cards (The kind used in Poker, Solitaire, and Blackjack) in an RPG game system.

I was wondering if anybody knew of perfect examples of a game system that uses this?

"are you sure you're okay eli?" Delia asks as she looks down at me as I'm resting against one of these fake trees "I mean you were all like torn up just now"

"Eh, I've had worse" I say as I sit up a bit higher, rubbing my shoulder as I yawn "Besides it's not like something like that could keep me down"

"Yeah, but you're not Charlotte" Delia says, puffing her cheeks out like an kid being told they can't get a toy "You don't get extra lives like she does, so yeah you should worry about getting all cut up like that"

"I know, but it's not like this is real, and even if it was, I still wouldn't worry about it" I say with a grin as I throw myself forward, jumping up and landing on my feet as Delia yelps in surprise and loses her balances, hitting the ground with a weird ringing sound as the grass crackles light blue.

"It seems like something you should worry about though" She says, pouting slightly as she stands up, dusting off her butt and legs "but I guess you're just strong enough not to"

"Of course I am" I say with a smug smile "But hey, you shouldn't worry about it either, I mean you can make those wall things right? that seems a lot more useful than just not worrying about getting beaten to a pulp like me, I mean it's not really me being strong, I just honestly don't care"

Delia gasps, like she just remembered something, chuckling as she shakes her head.

"Oh yeah, I can do that can't I, oh I'd forgotten about that for awhile" She giggles happily "Oh so you're really that lazy eli?"

"Sometimes" I say shrugging , before I reach over and grab my staff, as I start to walk through the fake woods

"Hmm, maybe I should try and be lazy then" Delia says nodding as she follows after me

Definitely Bait, but I'll bite anyway.

'Badass Death machine'-Warlord is the Lucius Pattern Warlord, which is more boxy and intimidating than the regular patterns, similar to the Lucius Warhound.

The other is the Mars-Alpha Pattern Warlord, which is based off of the original titan models in the first editions of Epic. The Lucius pattern actually came later than the Mars in terms of fluff as well.

Can we have an Eberron thread /tg/?

This is one of my favorite D&D settings, next to Dark Sun. I love the blend of pulp, steampunk, noir & fantasy elements. Such a versatile setting, you could be a daring archaeologist/spelunker exploring the forgotten Cambodian-esque ruins of Xen'drik in a pulp-like adventure, or you could be an effete socialite plotting within the spires of Sharn, orchestrating a conspiracy of saboteurs to consolidate power.

It's freaking awesome.

You could also play magical girls/boys in Sharn who attend school by day and battle all sorts of clandestine monsters prowling the towers at night, from rakshasas of the Lords of Dust, to aberrant agents of the Dragon Below, to dream-warping quori of the Dreaming Dark (though they had best seal those quori in soul gems, sort of like "quori captors").

Why is DnD so obsessed with alignment anyways? It serves no purpose besides interacting with a few abilities and spells here and there.
14 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
It's just a big sham that serves to filter out That Guys before you start playing.
>>
>>44267537
My take on it is that DnD is in it's very nature a game about classic fantasy tropes and clichees.
Alignments are simply a way to shoehorn a characters personality into a clichee for simple reference. How much you care for it is you thing, as you said most of the rules don't care for it at all, except you are one of those masochist that wants to play a 3.PF Paladin and the associated minigame of your GM getting you to fall. Which in and off itself is just another clichee.
>>
>>44267651
This. It may have served more of a purpose in earlier editions but now it's simply an RP aid for those who might need it. If you're not sure how your character is supposed to act morally just go off of their alignment.

>> December 24th, 1938 <<

You whistle as you work on clearing the snow in front of your New York apartment home. It wasn’t too cold today, so you weren’t wearing anything except for a simple black sweater and some pants. But as you were piling up the snow onto the curb, apparently your elderly neighbor in the next building over disagreed. “Christine!” She shakes, shivering in the cold as she hobbled over to you, bundled up in the thickest wools she could muster. She looks more like a clearance sale at the Woolworths. “My goodness, you poor girl! Why are you shoveling snow like this!? Put on a jacket!”

“I’m fine, Misses Washington,” you say. “I’m still young,” you declare. “That means my body is built for this kind of weather.” A few happy kids throwing snowballs at each other pass you by, one of them is Mrs. Washington’s granddaughter, who immediately trips. But your reflexes are too fast, and you catch her. “Whoa! That was a close one, hehe!” You giggle a little as you quickly dust her off.

You love kids.

“Whoa!” The littlest Washington looks up at you. “How come y’ain’t wearin’ a jacket, Miss Hunter?”

You shrug. “It’s not too cold for me.”

“Oh, cool!” She immediately begins unbuttoning her jacket. “I don’t have to wear this then!”

“No!” you shriek. She stops, surprised. Misses Washington looks at you with the smuggest expression you’ve seen yet out of that old lady.

Ugh.

“Hey, Christine!” Rana smiles happily as she carries a couple of bags. Walking next to her is Anneliese, who is busy taking in all the sights and sounds of a New York coming into hibernation. Baseball season is over, people are becoming insular, the only people out in the streets are kids who like to play in the snow and the unfortunate adults who have to work during the holidays. “Guess what I got you~!” she says as she waves a bag about in your face.

“It’s not a gun, is it?” you ask.

She stares at you, her smile fixed in place as she lowers the bag. “… maybe.” You grunt, going back to shoveling the snow. “But Anneliese got you something from the Woolsworth!”

“Ja, ja,” she says. Her English was getting better, much better. “It is a surprise though for Christmas morning!” She smiles happily, keeping her bag shut. Doesn’t seem too big. It’d certainly make you feel guilty though if Anneliese spent her money or something extravagant for you. One thing Dad always taught you is that vanity attracts only fairweather friends.

“Great, great,” you say.

“So did you get us anything?” You smile, nodding. Rana squeals a little, patting Anneliese’s arm. “You hear that, Christine got us something, Annie! Aaahhh!” She continues drumming her hands on Anneliese’s arm, making her slightly uncomfortable. “Okay, okay, don’t tell us, let me guess! Is it a car?”

“Yeah. I disassembled a Phantom Corsair and fit it right underneath our Christmas tree for you, Rana,” you say. Her eyes shine brightly. “I… that’s a joke, Rana.”

“Oh.” She frowns a little, disappointed.

“Tell you what, Christmas morning, you’ll love what I got you,” you say. She smiles again, happy. “Same with you, Anneliese. As an American welcome, I think you’ll really like what you’re going to get.” Anneliese smiles cautiously, looking at Rana. Rana nods happily, then looks back at you. “By the way, have you two seen Sumire anywhere?”
>>
>>44267178
[3/3]

“Nope.” Rana whistles out in an alleyway. “Kirby!” Kirby appears on Rana’s shoulder. “Have you seen, Sumire?”

“I have,” he says. “She’s currently walking around New York. She apparently hasn’t done any Christmas shopping at all.”

“Aw, now, Kirby, no one likes a tattle-tale,” says Rana.

“Wait, what?” You tap Kirby, and he looks over at you. “What do you mean, hasn’t done any Christmas shopping at all? It’s Christmas Eve! It’s…” You check your watch.

4:30 PM!? Most stores are going to close soon! How did Sumire procrastinate this badly!? Not even your mom procrastinated this badly on getting you gifts for your birthday and Christmas and she didn’t even show up for any of them!

Your people find themselves stranded in an unfamiliar environment- a prehistoric world, untouched by time. They have only a slight recollection of who they once were as a society, and no idea of what they may become. That is all up to you, the player. Your tiny nation can become anything, from peaceful traders to bloodthirsty conquerors. This is a world where anything is possible; brutal and savage orcs may rise up to become an advanced, civilized society, and high-tech, sophisticated robots may dwell in caves, bashing things with rocks, if you so choose.

Welcome to Primal World. Good luck, and have fun.

First thing's first, create your burgeoning nation, just entering the copper age.....

Name: The Broodnest
Race: The Brood. Spider-like Humanoids that share a hivemind with their Broodmother. Each has four arms and a light chitinous armor on their body. Certain variants of the species that assist in caring for the queen have four clear wings not unlike those of dragonflies to assist in maneuverability. Other, "workers," have the ability to create a sort of silk which is used in expanding the hive. Their mouths are lined with eighty thin, sharp teeth.
Fluff: The Broodnest is a colloquial term used to describe the large "hive" or "nest" created by The Broodmother and her workers. While a relatively new species, The Brood is a highly evolved after having developed sentience in hivemind form. By using a pod based reproduction system, the species spreads itself through laying pods which spew the larvae which will later become productive members of the brood. Using the silk created by workers, the hive is ever expanded. Rather than using cities, The Broodnest is a singular entity which is ever expanding. Entering means navigating a vast network of interconnecting tunnels that ultimately lead to the core and throne of The Broodnest. While the species shares a hivemind, each member of The Brood has its own personality and level of individuality. However, if need be, The Broodmother may take control of any member of the brood for her own purposes. This may be used for diplomatic purposes, as well as to mislead others to the identity or true appearance of The Broodmother. In times of rebellion or dire conflict, The Broodmother has been known to take full control of the hive so as to better ensure the survival of The Broodnest.

You head into the locker room and feel your phone buzz in your pocket. You look down and open the text while you grab some fresh workout clothes and head for a locker. It's from Jennifer.

“Your roommate and I made a few bets on our games. I won. We'll be along to the gym shortly to cheer you on.”

You open up a locker and stuff your bag into it before starting to get changed. You're dreading what might be involved. Meliora is probably going to kick your ass if Jennifer forced her into a cheerleader uniform or something. You pause for a moment and slowly turn to look at the locker number, closing the door slightly. Number four. Sammy said something about that, didn't she?

Your bag is launched from the locker, striking you in the chest. Fortunately it's not especially heavy. You can hear soft cackling, and the locker door slams closed. You rise to your feet and look at the locker. Sammy was right, haunted locker room. You reach for locker number five to avoid disturbing the ghost, and the door swings open sharply, knocking your hand aside, before more cackling fills the air. A sense of foreboding comes over you, like there's something right behind you, and a soft voice whispers in your ear.

“Boo...~”

You turn around slowly and come face to face with... nothing. Rule one of ghosts, they're invisible. You reach out and poke at the air, swiping your hand around to try to grab hold of something. Rule two of ghosts, they're also intangible. These aren't actual rules from your dad's notebook, you're just making things up on the fly. You're pretty sure your dad's notebook doesn't have a thing on ghosts. You'll have to update it when you get back to your room. You turn back to your bag and pick it up, checking the contents to make sure everything is alright.

“Seriously? Not even a scream? Is your brain made of glue or something?”

You look up to find a cloud of blue-green mist forming in front of you. A face emerges from it suddenly, contorted by pain and screaming, the eyes sewn shut. You manage not to wet yourself as you fall on your backside, which is probably the only positive thing you can say about the experience. You didn't scream so much as yelp though, which is also a plus.

The face bursts into laughter as the rest of the ghost's body materializes, and she peels off the stringy strands of ectoplasm covering her eyes, grinning and discarding the fake threads. She opens her eyes and removes her head, stretching a little before reattaching it.

“There we go! That was a good reaction. Aah... man.”

She drifts over to your bag and picks it up, dumping the contents out and examining it.

“Not bad, not bad... This should do just fine.”

She climbs inside your bag, vanishing into it, and it glows softly for a moment before levitating.

“Fear me, human, for I have taken total control of your worldly possession!”

You watch the bag hover closer before it opens wide, and you roll out of the way as it attempts to latch onto your head. The bag turns around for another attempt, and you grab it and wrestle it to the ground. It's damp and a little sticky, and the ghost emerges from it in a huff.

“What's with you? I'm trying to do my poltergeist thing and you're completely ruining it!”

You look at your hands. They're covered in sticky slime. Ew.

“I've had a really long day of intimidating vampires, fooling around with werewolves and designing a religion from the ground up for what I hope is a haunted suit of armor that teaches history class.”

You turn to the ghost.

“This is probably the most normal thing to happen to me all day.”

The ghost blinks, before poking your nose.

“Boop.”

Same system as Become The Dragon Quest. If you don't know what that is, it's best of three d20 rolls. I name a stat that sums up what you're trying to do, and if I don't name a relevant skill, you try to fill in the blank based on what you're trying to accomplish. “Break open the door” might be Strength based, but if you've been playing baseball after school and there's a lead pipe nearby, you could apply your Baseball skill to the roll. A 20 on the die is a crit threat, and if either of the other two rolls is 20 or higher after mods, it's a critical. A crit fail is when you have two or more 1s. So far this system has worked out well enough. We'll get into combat rules as needed, but in basic terms you have wounds, not HP, and the worse the wounds, the more penalties you accrue while doing other things.

Most Important Rule:
Have fun.
