Fighter.
He has no superpowers and is actually dangerously mentally unstable by his own admission; he's just directed that instability towards killing criminals.
He's also not big on saving lives and admits that he's not very good at it, and is lacking in compassion and mercy.

Sadly, Frank Castle has self-admitted that he's not even killing criminals because he thinks it'll help anything, because he knows it won't.
He's killing criminals because he likes it and it's what he does now.

Depends on the writer, sometimes he doesn't care about the collateral damage, doesn't distingish between friend of foe, etc, other times he does.

His idea of justice is always an eye for an eye though.

Planescape General and Q&A
Let us see how successful a brief revival of these threads will be.

Discuss Planescape and the Great Wheel here, whether the original AD&D 2e version, the 3.X version, the 4e version (yes, it exists in 4e, down to the baernaloths, the yugoloths, the Heart of Darkness, Maeldur et Kavurik, Tenebrous, Pelion, and the Last Word all being canon as of Dragon #417), the 5e version, or your own original blend.

I am exceedingly well-lanned on Planescape canon under a holistic blend of 2e, 3.X, and sometimes even 4e lore. If you have any questions at all about the setting's lore, feel free to ask, and I will give you direct quotes and citations from as many primary sources as I can, unlike afroakuma. I will note when something is open to GM interpretation, and explicitly note whenever I give merely my own personal interpretation.

Deities in Planescape most certainly exist. One of the links in the OP is an astoundingly comprehensive list of deities in the Great Wheel ( http://mimir.planewalker.com/forum/list-dead-gods#comment-58090 ), although about ~10% of them are extrapolated from real-world mythology.

Any given deity's power level depends on the edition you are using. They might be within the reach of mortal adventurers like in 1e, 4e, or 5e, or they could be wholly beyond mortal capacities like in 2e or 3.X.

All-powerful overdeities exist in the Great Wheel, but their functions are limited to a single crystal sphere (roughly analogous to a solar system), as laid out in page 160 of AD&D 2e On Hallowed Ground:
>The poor prime gods don't always have the final say on their own worlds, either. Some of the toughest bow to a still _higher_ deity, an overpower who watches out for the entire crystal sphere. Each overpower is concerned with only a single sphere, and has no influence outside that realm. Chant is they've tied all their strength to maintaining the one sphere; perhaps they're simply its spirit made real. Whatever, the more powers they have in their domain, the more they might have, so the overpowers that want to grow are almost always looking to invite new deities under their umbrella. And it ain't so bad, really. The gods of a world don't have to bend like straw under the laws of their overpower — though all sorts of terrible things can happen if they don't pay attention.
>'Course, not every world has an overpower. Some crystal spheres spawn 'em; others don't. It's one of the mysteries of the Prime.

Page 88 of the 3.0 Manual of the Planes offers a somewhat different take on such overgods:
>“Uber-Deities”: Some cosmologies have a deity that wields power an order of magnitude mightier than the greater deities. This uber-deity may be worshiped by the rank-and-file deities, or may be an entity of vast power revered by deities and mortals alike.
>Such uber-deities, if they exist at all in your cosmology, are beyond the ken of mortals and beyond the forces of the universe itself. They seemingly care nothing for worshipers. Uber-deities do not grant spells, answer prayers, or respond to queries. Only a handful of scholars on the Material Plane know about an uber-deity—if anyone knows at all. For instance, the lesser deity Vecna reveres the force of magic, personifying it as an entity he calls the Serpent. Perhaps the Serpent is an uber-deity of unimaginable power.

Page 25 of the 3.0 Deities & Demigods book says something similar:
>Rank 21+: These entities are beyond the ken of mortals and care nothing for worshipers. They do not grant spells, do not answer prayers, and do not respond to queries. If they are known at all, it is to a handful of scholars on the Material Plane. They are called overdeities. In some pantheistic systems, the consent of an overdeity is required to become a god.

Whether an overdeity's strength applies only to a single crystal sphere (solar system) or to the multiverse at large depends on the edition you use.

That said, there are certainly beings of an even greater power level than overdeities: the Ancient Brethren, composed of the likes of the Lady of Pain, Asmodeus, and, if it exists, the Serpent. (From a lore writing perspective, the creative origins of this grouping are rather muddled and involved some gruesome conflation of Greyhawk lore into Planescape lore, but there is little that can be done about it.) I go into these in a previous thread here:

You are Second Lieutenant CT-42/458, commander of All Terrain-Tactical Enforcer 7330, of the 3rd Grand Republic Army, 5th Armored Corps, 3rd Division, 4th Battalion, 1st Brigade, 5th Regiment, 1st Squadron, 1st company, 2nd platoon.

A day ago, you had left the simulation training grounds of Kamino. Three hours ago you arrived at your post and reported to your immediate superior, leader of 2nd Platoon, Captain CT-14/8899, who introduced himself to you as Captain Doubles. Thirty minutes ago you sat in your first real All Terrain-Tactical Enforcer, it having arrived from Republican Foundries soon after you had. Fifteen minutes ago, the order came for all troopers to form up and file into their assigned transports, after which your still currently unmet crew filed into the All Terrain-Tactical Enforcer as well as two platoons of troopers.

Now, you are descending through the edge of the atmosphere of a planet which you do not know the name of on a mission you know nothing about, in All Terrain-Tactical Enforcer 7330 attached to Low Altitude-Assault Transport 6908, and you cannot help but be at awe while looking up at the massive fleet of gunships behind and above you against the backdrop of space. The battle hardened troops of General Obi-Wan Kenobi's 3rd army fill your vision with such numbers that the Low Altitude-Assault Transports block out the stars. Their hulls gleamed a pristine white with the rays of the system's star, so beautiful that you fail to find the proper words to describe it. You most vivid dreams paled in comparison with this wonder before you.

Pride wells within you. This is what it means to be a grand army, you decide.

All Terrain-Tactical Enforcer 7330 jostles violently beneath you before returning still, shaking you from your reverie as an instinctual panic floods through your body for a moment. You desperately look down to yourself, hands tightly gripping the consoles as you make sure the tank isn't falling apart underneath you.

The tank is together. You aren't falling to your death.

Before you could breath a sigh of relief though, the All Terrain-Tactical Enforcers shakes again, then again, each time causing you to tense up and curl into yourself. The sims in no way prepared you for this. You shut your eyes, and as the occasional turbulence worsened over the course of the next minute to a constant vibration with the intensity to rattle your padded helmet against your skull, all you can think of is the tales the trainee pilots told between sims. Talk of unlucky or desperate pilots ejecting into the atmosphere of a planet and only a heavily charred helmet landing on the planet, winged creatures the size of five times the main platform on Kamino swooping in to pluck away troopers and bringing them back to their nests to feed their children, the list goes on and on, and not even including the hundreds of ways the Seperatists could shoot down your transport, you're going to die here this is how you die youdonotwanttodiesomeoneplEASEHELPYOUJUSTWANTTOGOHOMEYOUCANHEARTHEATMOSPHEREBURNAGAINSTYOURCANOPYWHYDIDYOULOOKEVERYTHINGISONFIRESOMEONEHELPHELPHELPHELPHELP-

-Your helmet's comms beep loudly in your ears. Your eyes shoot open. You are breathing is rapid, it is echoing raspily. You are completely bent over in your seat with your hands gripping the area around your helmet's viewport. You are shaking, but the All Terrain-Tactical Enforcer has stopped the worst of its vibrations.

The comms beep again. Someone is trying to get into contact with you.

-Strosstadt, September 25th, 1932, 19:05. 2nd Penal Division Camps

The penal division camp was in somewhat of a bustle this night.

The General had visited this camp before, yesterday morning. He had seen a pitiful sight; every soldier was unhappy, defeated and listless. Some trudged in loose orbits about their tents while others stared at the ground, sitting cross legged and hunched over. Not many of these men had actually done anything wrong; they were merely from the same areas as their traitorous counterparts. They had been put through the wringer as any true turncoat would have been, however; investigated, intimidated, then scattered about and brushed back together into new formations among strangers. That morning, what lay before the General were not soldiers, but a band of lost and confused boys.

Tonight, however, the atmosphere had been inversed.

The General observed the new scene from afar, under the pale light of a lamppost on a hill, but still close enough to hear the focus of the commotion. Standing atop a makeshift stage of food crates was a middle aged soldier, not dressed particularly different but clearly a chaplain by their speech.

“The Reich sends their hordes, their swarm of locusts, into our lands, convinced that their conquest is just!” cried the chaplain, to the support of the soldiers, “News has come to us of the truth, now! The Reich rots from within, writhing in the grip of famine! The Lord has condemned our foes to an inevitable doom, for their sins! To defend our nation is not simply our lot as the sons of Strosvald, but the divine will of God!”

A resounding cheer erupts from the crowd. Many soldiers have painted the seal of God upon their faces, the Hammer of Judgement, upon their faces with charcoal and ash, whatever they could find that suited the purpose.

“The filth that has stained our land is condemned by the Lord above, and he has shown whom he favors! So stand resolute in these coming dark days, for the flesh cannot stand against the wrath of the divine! The Kaiser and his apes shall be driven back, the taste of victory turned to ashes in their mouth!”

“Ah, Herr General. How have you been?” A thin and ragged man sidled up next to the general during a particularly raucous applause. Beneath a dark and dusty overcoat shone the bronze badge of the Interior Intelligence Department. It shone nearly as brightly as the man’s tiny glasses in the yellow light of the lamp post.

“Well enough, Vice Commissioner,” the decorated man responded. He looked back out over the distant congregation sternly. “Is this your work?”

“Ah. No,” the Vice Commissioner looked to the side and adjusted his glasses, “Not entirely. I had my agents sow the information among them about the famine in the Grossreich, but the divine intervention is of the troops’ own invention.” He finished fiddling with his glasses and removed them, looking back up at the General with piercing blue eyes. “I fail to see what your concern is, however.”

“Resolute soldiers are a boon to an army, Vice Commissioner,” the General answered, “Zealots are not. A furious mob will be no more help than a fearful one in the days coming.”

“I disagree, General. In these uncertain days, even if their unity is behind hatred, they must rally behind a strong cause. The events of the past weeks have told us that the defense of their nation is not a worthy cause in the eyes of many of our countrymen.”

The general did not respond for a minute. The chaplain down in the penal camp finished a particularly foul condemnation of the Grossreich, and received a deluge of support from his audience.

“I hope for all of our sakes that you are wrong, Vice Commissioner.” He said, “Or else I fear what enemy they will find after the Reich.”

Big ol’ Summary time

You are Lieutenant Richter Von Tracht, commander of a tank platoon under the armed forces of Strossvald. You were close to the border when the war against the Grossreich of Czeiss had started; to be truthful, you had only just arrived. However, in the confusion of the initial attack, you were able to scrounge together survivors and regain some control of the situation. You later learned that your formation, the 3rd Panzer regiment, as well as the local authorities, had agreed to turn against Strossvald and fight for the Grossreich. Dissatisfied with this turn of events, you led your platoon to the loyalist troops, a section that had been sent to assist the local forces but had become encircled as a result of the changes in loyalties.

Along the way, you met a noblewoman called Maddalyn, a daughter of the local nobility, the Von Blums. You agreed to escort her to the northern nation of Delschau in order to meet some contacts she had there. Infiltrating enemy territory, you managed to reach your destination, but were forced to turn back after meeting a famous Grossreich tanker, who had been sent there as an emissary. He warned you that Delschau would soon become a battleground, and advised you to leave as soon as possible. You did this, taking Maddalyn back with you before she could reach whoever she had planned to meet.

After stopping in the chaotic city of Blumsburgh to refuel and resupply, assisting local militia in retaking a military base that had been overrun by bandits in the wake of the Reich, you reunited with the 2nd Royal Guards division and participated in the Battle of Weissbrucke, a battle in which the 2nd Royal Guards division managed to capture or destroy a large concentration of Grossreich troops; the first victory for Strossvald in the war.
>>
You had returned with their formation and were given a choice. Either you would join the 2nd Royal Guards division and continue to operate with them, or accept a promotion to lead a company in a penal division. You chose the former. You had immediately received your commission to the 2nd Royal Guards division; symbolized by a silver magnolia emblem to wear upon your breast. Such commissions required the personal approval of the Archduke; the generalmajor awarding you it must have had it prepared early. You were somewhat curious as to what he would have done had you taken the promotion instead.

You had been taking it somewhat easy these past couple of days. What time you hadn’t spent sleeping you had spent going to various briefings to ty and get a better idea of what had happened so far in the war. Maddalyn being who she was, tried to get you to come with her to be properly established in high society for whatever grand scheme she had for your career, but you had been to the courts in your youth and they weren’t the place for you.

You were, however, scheduled to meet your new platoon mechanic today. Your tanks had somehow carried on without emergency up until now, but they had given their last effort on the way back to the capital, where the 2nd Royal Guards division was reorganizing before setting out again to join the Siegfried Army in what was rumored to be a large scale counterattack. The entire division needed repairs and refitting, as well as replacements, hence the several day reprieve. Preparations were almost over now, though; you were set to thinking that you would never get a mechanic at all.

I played around with SFM with a friend yesterday. We played the following:

Abzanblade vs UR Twin
Twinblade vs UR Twin
UW Stoneblade vs Jund

Some of the games didn't rely on SFM a lot (most of the time it just ate a bolt, we rarely got to cheat in Batterskull). What I do hate about it is exactly this: it's a Steelshaper's Gift that demands removal. SFM's body is actually relevant (especially in Control matchups) and needs to be disposed of quickly or else Batterskull just comes in and nets a huge advantage. I remember a game where UW Stoneblade kept forcing removal spells and eventually equipped a Batterskull on Restoration Angel for crazy amounts of damage. It's cool to say "I have 3 Terminates and 2 Kommands to beat it" but sometimes the life swing is a lot to bear.

We'll play with it again later, but I'm not sure I like seeing Batterskull with SFM. The Swords were BARELY relevant, unlike the 4/4 Vigilance Lifelink that can provide its buffs to other creatures in the lategame.
>>

>And what do you think a SFM unban would do to the meta?

For the most part? Absolutely nothing. Kolaghans Command just destroys Stoneforge Mystic plus any Swords she drops or Batterskull.

Silly. I really dislike the absurd gigantism every writer is obsessed with. Marines are about 7 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide in armor, which is already enormous. Their figurines were in scale, but plastic guard were too large, messing things up.

Besides, the game is in heroic scale anyway, making scale a thing of convenience anyway. Unless you think regular human hands are the size of a milk jug.

Well UNSC ships are better in terms of mobility since they have warp drive technology.

But they falter in defense since pre-covie fleets doesn't have energy shielding. In terms of land war capability, if its Alliance vs UNSC the Alliance has the most advantage.
>>
>>44261107
The halo universe is pretty assbackwards compared to mass effect. Without barriers you could probably throw every pre war ship at a small team of turian frigs and they'd all get pasted.

Once the UNSC get thier own shields they could probably mount some kind of defence, but they'd have to change up their fleet doctrine pretty hard to compensate for the fact that fighter bomber teams are now totally obsolete.

You are Brianna la Croix, triumphant heritor, whatever the fuck that means, and you have some decisions to make.

You healed Lisa's victims after freeing Lora from her clutches. You:

> Encourage them to move to Lakehallow. They can get treatment and support there, even if it means having to adjust to a new community.
> Encourage them to move back to Split. Their families and friends are there. They have to face this tragedy head-on.
> Encourage them to the care and aid of the Keepers of Arcadia. Work preventing this kind of thing from happening ever again will soothe their fears.

The living dead still infest the Lichyard, though without direction they are a much lesser threat. Still, with Amy and Nathan insisting you TAKE A GODSDAMNED VACATION, BRI you can't precisely handle it yourself. Or, well, you /can/.

> Task River and Fetch with putting down the dead.
> Leave the Keepers and the Rose Cult to put down the dead without help.
> Put down the dead yourself. You're a big girl, you can work if you want to.

A report has to be made to the Basement. You:

> Report just the facts; encourage no course of action.
> Report the devastation; request manpower and material aid.
> Report the suffering of the people; request medicine and supplies.

Alright good anons. I need to catch some sleep, because I have work in the morning and life's a bitch like that sometimes. I'm going to make the bold move of not archiving this thread just yet; hopefully discussion and voting will keep it open while I sleep for five hours.

As always, discussion, feedback, critique, and questions are welcome.

Thank you again for reading and participating! See you in the morning, DLQ readers.

Warhammer Fantasy General, focused on the fluff and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. 1st and 2nd Edition, but discussion on 3rd Edition and the Tabletop is welcomed... ish.

It would be a shame to break a good trend.

Would appreciate good stable links for 1st and 3rd Ed, just for completion's sake.

Outstanding questions:
>why gnomes?
>how major is the splatbook power creep?
>popular house rules?

End Times and Age of Shitmar need not apply.

This isn't a question unique to Warhammer Roleplay, but getting into it got me wondering, since it's always been a bit murky and hard to handle for me.

How do you handle down-time or timeskipping? WHFRP sometimes deal with some potentially long timespans, which could involve training into a new career, going about your life and so on.

How do you handle it? Do the players take turn, is it a dedicated session between "adventures", and how would that work if you're going pretty much free-roaming? I've always got problems tying it all together, and honestly most of my GM:s has been bad at it too, especially when some players have stuff going on while others don't, potentially making it very uneven in how things play out, nevermind the fact that timeskipping might be appropriate for one character, while another one doesn't really go for it because they're "ready to go".

And I've never seen a good guide on this part for roleplaying games, either.

>Why Gnomes?

Oldhammer was a lot more generic than I think people remember, but theyre essentially just dwarfy-er dwarves that love giving sick burns and play practical jokes on assholes.

Much like 40k took influences from a crazy number of sources of sci-fi, Fantasy took infleunces from a crazy number of.. fantasy.

At the end of the day, it's really "just" Lord of the Rings with shit all over it, and the conflict between Order and Chaos, with european paganism and christiandom sprinkled loosly around it.

But I'm thankful gnomes were axed, honestly. Fucking gnomes.
