I managed to convince my group to switch from AD&D to 3.5e, admittably not much better but it's low level play so I don't think it matters much. How should I convince my group that stats mean a whole lot more in 3.5 and we should re-stat our characters using point buy?

Why would anyone in their right mind do that?

Because it's gotten to the point where everyone wants to have more options with their characters and have become annoyed by the glaring system flaws in the game, like how only clerics get bonus spell slots from a high wisdom.

Which is your favourite non first founding chapter and why?

Its that time again. Dusting off this chestnut, lets see how it goes. You guys know the drill.

How to play:
• Open an image of a species in MS Paint, or your editor of choice
• Make one evolutionary change to that species
• Save as .PNG!
• Post your new species in the thread with a description of what evolution you've added and why

Notes:
• Unless stated explicitly, no species ever goes extinct. Old species can still evolve, even if they're not on the latest "chain"
• Try to make your evolutions gradual and realistic
• Have fun

We've all experienced and have our own opinion over various space opera like settings such as Mass Effect and Star Trek, where a wide majority of the Sapient species are also Hominid in shape, stature and function (e.g. the "Rubber Wrinkle Aliens" you see people mock Star Trek for)

Most of these space opera setting exclusively rely on there being higher life on other planets, yet also always fall into humanoid structure for the purposes of having "relatable aliens" yet it seems somewhat fallacious and conflicting to have both of those assumptions.

Let's say we truly are alone in the Universe and we are the only sapient and higher intelligent species that there is:
Now, 200,000 years of human evolution over barriers such as mountain ranges and even rivers has caused massive phenotypal differences in the human genome as witnessed by today's various human races. Mountains and rivers are extremely insignificant population barriers compared to the massive chasms of empty space, gravitation differences, and time dilation.

That has me wondering, are there any settings that exist, where humanity IS all of the alien species. That various conditions of the human colonies along with inherent self-segregation of cultures caused humanity to diverge into significantly different species. It would make sense that such scenarios would cause these kinds of "Rubber Wrinkle Aliens" like you see common in these veins of Space Operas. That humanity is the common ancestor to the hominid species that make up the higher species of the universe.

There aren't many I know for sure, but hypothesizing what kinds of features humanity would develop in different environments would be an interesting discussion to have, as well as which systems would be most suited for this kind of setting. Rouge Trader seems like it could be adapted very well for this.

You lean slightly toward Meiya. “You’re nervous.”

“No I’m not.” She shoots back hotly.

“So you weren’t practicing your chops?” You point to her arm stiffly waving in the air.

With an angry blush, she quickly tries to adjust how she waves, but her fingers are still too rigid.

The throngs of cheering people from all over the planet deafen your small procession. Thankfully you can take ease in knowing that their not focusing on you at all.

“You’re playing The Innocent, no one will mind if you make a mistake.” You look toward the endless crowds lining the procession route. “But someone will absolutely notice if you make one.”

She’s careful to only shoot daggers at you with her eyes. “And you’re here to help me make sure that doesn’t happen, so stop playing around. This is serious.” Meiya’s smile focuses on a young group of enthusiastic children. “Wait.” Her eyes widen. “Are we even supposed to be talking right now?”

You look up and recall all the etiquette you know for this event. “There’s nothing that says we can’t.”

“Even if that’s true…” Her voice clearly showing that she doesn’t recall all the minor customs. “We should still show our respect.”

“Stuffy tension isn’t the one of the ideals they show us.” You wave nonchalantly to the crowd. “Except for maybe The Sovereign, of course.” You turn back to Meiya to see her face starting to sour slightly. “Ready for your speech?” You ask, changing the subject.

Meiya lets out an anxious groan. “It’s so short, I still don’t know why they picked me this year.” She actually turns to you. “You’ll be right there, right?”

“Probably.” You begin to grin, but quickly stop to keep her brow from furrowing anymore. “Of course I will. Let them try and stop me, not like I’ll be around for any punishments.”

Your sister is silent for moment. “Just when are you leaving exactly?”

Hello everyone and welcome to ShitterNormie's Machine Civ part 6!
>What's happening in the civ Shitter?
Excellent question anon! We are the head AI of a group of drones and multi-purpose machines. Remember anon...if the main AI is destroyed the civ is lost!
>Where are we Shitter?
We are located in the side of a volcano. Our base (which can be given a new name) was built by our old masters: The gnomes. They're dead now because of orcs. But here we are! We are a large super computer that is position in the center of the main room of the volcano-side base. So far the current rooms we have are 1 door leading to the outside world, 1 drone building facility, 1 machine building facility, 1 steel mine, 1 generator room, 1 Machine of Burden building facility, 1 Copybot building facility and 1 locked room. We only have one current ally at the moment: the gnolls who we are planning to turn into machines.
>Did anything happen last time?
Why do you keep asking? Something always happens. The research for the Trade Caravan Machines of Burden was completed, we built a shitload of gnoll assimilation tickbots, a huge collapse happened in our mine which unlocked a new mineral: platinum, research on a mobile suit for S.A.L.L.Y was finished, #6 played a prank on us and was swiftly punished.
>How do I get started!?!?!?
Just suggest two actions at the end of the IMMEDIATE CHECKUP. All choices' success will be determined by a 1d20 roll that I will do on my desk and tell you guys. (Rolled 15,2)

Pic related is what S.A.L.L.Y 2.0 will look like (unless any design changes are requested and supported)

IMMEDIATE CHECKUP ENGAGED
>Power supply: decent
>Drones:20 advanced grabber drones, 16 gunner drones, 3 maintenance drones, 1 eye drone, 1 #6, 14 inferno drones, 1 #11
>Machines of Burden: 2 Trade Caravan Machines of Burden
> Humanoid Machines: 4 multi-purpose machines (these can be changed with upgrades and research)
>Copybots: 150 Gnoll parasite bots (The Copybots require natural research and technological research)
>Turrets: 1 Heavy Machine Gun Turret
>S.A.L.L.Y. 2.0: current form/upgrades: blueprint
>Special characters: Drone #6, Inferno drone #11, S.A.L.L.Y's mobile form
>Moral: All are happy and amused (#6 is an Orc fuckboi)
>Allies: Gnolls (We are honorary gnolls)
>Building facilities: 1 steel mine, 1 machine builder, 1 drone builder, 1 generator room (barely average), 1 machine of burden builder, 1 copybot builder (mass production unlocked)
>Memory files: Pretty good (memory files research 50%) (this can be fixed with dedicated research which will unlock lore and blueprints)
>Locations unlocked: Home base (wellhidden), Outside world, Gnoll village, Troll lair (cleared), Trading outpost
>Locations that we have heard about: The elves to the eastern forest, The Orcs to the northern plains, The Crabmen to the south that apparently live in some fortified, seaside fortress
>Inventory: 3 spears, 2 shields, 165 steel, 125 copper, 50 platinum, troll organs, 1 Santa troll
What would you like to accomplish now (2 actions)?

I guess I should say something about this. Once a gnoll is fully transmuted into a machine it can pass nanobots into other gnolls through sexual activities or other liquid exchanges. Think of robo-AIDS

Greetings /tg/!
I will be spending most of the next 24 hours painting and cleaning.
While doing so, I'd like to work on rpg ideas in my head, but all my own have reached a research and require more input stage.
If you have any unpolished ideas, or ideas that bring up more questions than answers, I'll whistle them out while I work.

I've been thinking about a steampunk setting where the industrial revolution never happened, but technology advanced by about as much. Airships are fucking amazing, Guns and cars take a skilled craftsman years to make and are kept for generations, The Amerindian confederacy lives in a neutral zone between the rival superpowers of Albion and The New World. The Law-wheel cult has taken over everything east of india and south of Mongolia, and is sending out missionaries which superstitious monotheists are calling 'the Meek'. 'The Meek' are anti-technology but develop their natural 'magneto-metabolic' powers to a greater degree than anyone else.

Typical classes: Sky privateer (Albian), Scout (Amerindian), Tinker (New Worlder), Falun initiate (Oriental)

Some questions I'm unsure of...

What's happening in Africa? How about the middle east?

Where is technology ahead of ours? Anything where a few products can employ a lot of people would probably be more advanced - so submarines, zeppelins, maybe even rockets, could be more advanced than ours. Meanwhile daily conveniences that require a lot of uniformity, like transistors, would probably be too expensive for all but the wealthiest. How would that play out?

Anything else the setting suggests?

Okay, some questions before I go too far into it.

>industrial revolution never happened, but technology advanced by about as much.
I can interpret this a number of ways:
You do mean that they have roughly the same level of technology as the industrial revolution, 1700's to 1800's, only where those events never happened, and instead "steampunk" events happened?
If so, at roughly what time period did this reality shift from our own?
I imagine steampunk settings diverging at the beginning of the renaissance, with a steampunk renaissance.

>Amerindian, Albion and The New World.
Two big powers, one smaller one in between gotcha.

>The Law-wheel...
Interesting faction, where is India and Mongolia in regards to the other three?
>'magneto-metabolic'
I imagine a sort of telekinesis based on electromagnetic properties. Like a baby Magneto.
If that is right then your name works, if not then what is it?
How common are these powers and what is there scope?
Could, say, underdeveloped African tribes lacking technology utilize their weak powers with great numbers, to achieve greater feats, thereby supporting their false religions with rituals that work?

>Sky privateer (Albian), Scout (Amerindian), Tinker (New Worlder),
I think I get these.
>Falun initiate (Oriental)
Falun is a city in Sweden, so I'm not sure what this is.

>What's happening in Africa?
Tribal shamans vs. Colonists wearing pit helmets with gears?
>How about the middle east?
Old, fanatic religions would be resistant to The Meek. Plus desert applications of steampunk tech.

>transistors
Transistors are huge. Watching Stargate SG-1 made me realize how epic walkie-talkies are for combat. If the Jaffa had used them, Earth would have lost many time over. Of course not all radios use transmitters and crystal rectifier detectors just scream steampunk.

Best not get into that, it will infuriate quite a few people because they have based their lives on it.

Research stations where nothing interesting except astronomical observations occur is a remote possibility though. I don't know how you could make that fun, possibly having them roll for success on their data collection? Maybe a maintenance robot malfunctions and you need to perform a routine EVA to repair it and nothing goes wrong because it's routine and you either do everything right in space or die very quickly?
>>
>>44267666
Space travel is boring. Really pretty to look out the window, mind you, but also incredibly boring.
The same goes for colonizing, most of the work (planning and material preparation) is done before you fire up the engines.
Then you just get to the place (every second of the trip is calculated and planned out) and follow the plan like a mindless drone.

Welcome rudebois and rudegyals to the latest edition of Star Wars A New Quest,

Last time on STANQ; You leveled up in every area due to 15 sabers (now at 19, 6 off another unlockable), helped the mandos close a deal resulting in a magic talisman with a voice inside that can now talk to you of a long dead multi thousand year old survival spirit, who you showed the sensations of gyro kebabs and then gyro punani from the milf punk chick you tracked down and her blonde friend before getting thrown out by a force user who you gave your number too, and it stopped talking to you, until you jumped in and fucked the female spirit into submission, take your new little sibling orphan thing to out and it's revealed to be the force sensitive who force threw you out earlier and you steal a car together and have an all night forceball and rancor juice powered gaming tournament that ends in pranking KJ and some light kissing which you stop before it goes too far, but piss off athena again anyway when she realises she banged someone under the age of consent in coruscant freaking out who then refuses to talk to you, have to help out and take al home because rancor juice is illegal not just because of how fun it is, then troll the sith pureblood receptionist who wanted your d into revealing her location, and you attack killing them thanks to kj and take the sith to the hospital where you fuck her in a hospital bed to teach KJ how to do his own gyal better but do too good and comatose her permanently, and then you rough fuck a dirty twilek mechanic into giving you a better deal for a ship using all your credits, adopt alex, head back to the jedi temple and see someone's molested the sith in her sleep and call them out on it and say there'll be hell to pay if this isn't investigated and leave for tatooine, training the pups there

Longest thread yet blud, damn.

Screams reverberate throughout the halls of the Upper Sanctum as you, Aelriss, and Nel sprint back through the winding passages, passing myriad doors—all alike—before the landing comes into view, a stiffly-neat and stocked study, with library shelves lined up on either side of the path leading back to the spiral staircase. Someone or something isn’t happy with you—at least, at possible worst; at possible best, you’ve simply startled a group of tenants who don’t get too many visitors. Ahead, the rest of the party is primed and ready; Kainzo is at the head of the group, which stands in a haphazard formation, each member visibly prepared to fight, though unsure of which direction foes could approach from.

“Nel!” Ayla says.

“You made it back in one piece, kid.” Donnel adds.

The screaming sounds are distant and echoic enough that the conversation can be heard over them without necessitating a raise in volume—but it’s an eerie backdrop, and one that isn’t particularly pleasing to the ear anyway. You feel uneasy.

“Barely.” Nel breathes a sigh of relief. “Would have been done for were it not for Ashe.”

“Ascheritte. Report?” Kainzo asks.

“An entire room of those homunculi—dolls made in the image of Kjorikos’s dead lover.” Aelriss says, before you can come through with a response of your own. “It’s worse than we thought. He didn’t just try one or two more times after the first one didn’t come through…”

To the right, a bookshelf suddenly collapses, liberating a thick cloud of dust that produces another pair of the marbleized humanoids—varying in height, with cracked, cream-colored skin, eyes and mouths closed and perfectly still. Then, a pair of the translucent Sanctum windows fall forward, shattering on the ground and revealing themselves not as portals to the outside, but as gateways to small compartments that contain more of the ghastly things.

“So, uh.” Vyx asks, pointing her pair of wicked handguns back and forth between targets. “Did we decide whether these things are friend or foe?”

“They haven’t attacked us yet, but keep in mind th—“

Ayla is interrupted—crashing, and more screaming. This time, from all directions, as the sound of collapsing shelves and shattering glass plunges you into sudden severity and turmoil. Shadows close in on you at high speed from all directions; someone, or something collides with you from behind, sending you stumbling forward, barely able to keep your balance. You stabilize yourself, managing to avoid bumping into other members of the veritable flood of homunculi that's filled the room, drunkenly wandering about with no direction between them.

Taller than you, you can't quite see past them, only managing to catch occasional glimpses of your party through the flood. Some of them have sharpened body parts—not least for those obsidian spikes serving as legs, which you imagine would crush anyone who fell in short order. You can barely hear over the sounds that fill the room: screaming, metallic grinding, objects shattering.

> Try to push through to another member of the raid.
> Kjorikos can't be far from here. Look for the final room, rounding up anyone you can on the way.
> Time to find out how strong they are. Draw your sword and cut a path to the nearest ally.
> Other.
