Hey guys I'm hopefully running a short 2-3 hour one shot of Dungeon World tomorrow just using the basic rules and classes, would you be able to help me with some fun ideas I could grab for a quick plot for some one shot action?

Doesn't the game already kind of do something like that? Going around the table, getting bits of a scenario, and forming them together?

Have the party check out some spooky happenings in a graveyard, find the miners who were buried there can't rest their spirits, and when they go check out a mine they find a super scary enemy to fight.
>>
Look in the back of the book page 384 or so, the game calls it making fronts and the SRD does a much better job of explaning it than the book :http://book.dwgazetteer.com/fronts.html
In priciple, it is not magic or hard word, just logiacally linking creative elemets in a way that helps adventure and having fun.

Just think of some interesting group, faction or race,( maybe the merfolk civlization off the shore of the Grayocean, the centaur hordes, the pack of wervolves prowling the woods for victims, The mysterious gaunt peole of the lost civilization who emerged from the caves) or monster doing something interesting and go from there, Who are they? What do they want to accomplish? Wo do they serve?, How are they going about it? Who are their enemmies.?How do they impact the land and the kingdom around them? (Have they scared away the traders bring unrest and famine? Ore haw they become the object of worship for the cult that´s been gaining power?

Also, have a read through the gude, it will help you a ton when running the game.

I will also take the ooprtunity to ask a question that doesn´ t deserve a seperate thread:
How does the option "…and someone interferes with you, add its instinct to their roll" for the ranger move Command work? I get what it is for, your companion causing trouble for you at inopportune moments (l ike you dog getting startled, whimpering and giving you away whe you´re trying to be stealthy, or the pony squatting down and trying to roll overwhile you´re riding it) But do what roll do you add it, when enemies don´t make move rolls. To damege rolls? But every interfepence inconvinience like that can´t fictionally cause damage can it. Whai is that trying to to? Also for my own use, I modfied it to say " or take the [disadvantage stat] as a penalty to your own roll, as appropriate" to account for enemies not making move rolls. Does that make sense? Toughts?

Welcome to The Lost Island Quest. Last thread our hero, Alan Rodain, dealt with some shady fellows who were following him, warned a person to not do something they will regret and poked Quissonce until she could cast magic naturally. Now, Alan ponders on the scope of his power.

>poked Quissonce until she could cast magic naturally
Best way to describe it.
>>
“Alan made you a sorcerer?!” Eve shouts.

Quissonce's eyes go wide and she quickly glances around the room before running over and putting her hand over Eve's mouth. “Shhhhhhhh. Not so loud. You don't know who might be listening.” Who? Ed? When Eve gives a thumbs up that she'll stop talking Quissonce lets go. “And no, Alan didn't make me a sorcerer. He gave me some insight into how the two of you manage to cast so efficiently. And I've adapted it as best I can.”

You speak up. “But still. You were able to master that in less than an hour from a touch?”

Quissonce thinks about it for a second. “Well, two touches technically. It provided a very stable baseline for me to make my discovery from.”

Huh, you didn't know what your new power would do when you tapped into it. So with a touch you can make a person . . . learn how to cast magic without bat guano and sticks of butter? Great for all the wizards in the Circle, if you even want to give them a leg up like that, but it seems very specific and not too useful. No, there's got to be more to it than that.

>Year 2027
>Dice and other implements of chance are made illegal under penalty of death
>True gamers continue to roll dice in secret while their duplicitous counterparts inform on rolling activity for a pat on the head and an extra bread ration

Which camp would you be in?

>>
>>44251487
Both, of course. I work as a spy for the government revealing dirty die droppers for the reward, and in secret I drop the die myself with a select few of the worthy. In this way, we can weed out those we don't like or who aren't worthy, sustaining a pure bred faction to worship our dice, and benefit from ration handouts regularly.

Life is good.
>>
Viva la Dice Rolling.
>>
>>44251487
I would be in the camp that uses the statistical data on executions as a pseudo-random number generator, thereby making executing me for possessing an implement of chance itself a possession of an implement of chance. It won't stop them from killing me, of course, but at least I'll get a laugh out of it.

What's your favourite basic dice rolling system? For checks in general, I mean

A single dice, two-three of the same minor die, a dice pool to signify stats?

Tell me about that basic system that you'd want to take with you and use it everywhere

>>
>>44251457
I personally adore Die Pools but my players don't, which is a damn shame.
>>
I live and die by the One Roll Engine. It's the fastest, most intuitive system I think I've ever come across.

Basically you roll a pool of d10s, usually made from Stat + Skill, and you look for a match, like 4,4 or 6,6,6. The number of dice in the matched set is called the Width, and the number on the dice is called Height, so 6,6,6 has a Width of 3 and a Height of 6, and is expressed s 3x6.

This tells you a whole lot. It tells how fast the action is (an action with greater Width is faster than one with lower Width), how good the performance is (based on Height). Most importantly for combat, it resolves initiative, damage and hit location all at once (Width tells you your speed and how much damage you did, Height gives you the location).

Once you play a few games with it, it becomes effortless to boil down any action or number of actions into a single roll. It's beautiful.
>>
>>44252182
Hit location works in such a way that the head is not any harder to hit than the other body parts, but it's nearly impossible to defend from attacks targeted at the head. Doing things quick doesn't let you take more turns no matter how high your width is.

Orcs who practice a heretical religion have been immigrating en masse into the more civilized kingdoms of the elves and the humans, under the pretense of a dark cult conquering the orcish wastelands.

Many orcish infiltrators of the dark cult have already snuck in with the teeming hordes of refugees. Some have wreaked havoc and terror in the civilized kingdoms with mass murders, while others lie in wait to do the same thing.

Worse, the dark cult's propaganda has been ensnaring the hearts and minds of the "civilized" orcs who were already living in the elven and human kingdoms. Many orcish youths have been pledging their dark hearts to the cult.

>Wanna help me make a couple first level characters for Dungeon Crawl Classics?

After braving their first dungeon and slaying the Serpentlord Saurog the Demonsnake, the players get to choose a class and become full fledged adventurers!

The players have already chosen what class they would like to join, but they actually went through the dungeon with a handful of peasants following them. I was wondering if any of you would like to help me roll up their stats and choose their classes. I could do it myself, but I figured doing it with you guys might be kind of fun.

The two peasants that I'd like to "Level up" are Paul and Rodrigo. I'll give you a brief rundown of what went down in the dungeon, so we can have a little bit of background.
>Before the adventure, the party convinces a bunch of peasants to go with them. (Not letting them know that they're essentially fodder.)
>All of the peasants died in terrible traps and battles, except these two.
>Paul managed to escape the dungeon with only a single hit point. He was hit with multiple traps and even got attacked by a warrior golem, and somehow survived. (He is now wearing leather armor and carrying a spear. He owns nothing else.)
> Rodrigo was slightly smarter, and stayed alert when the players sent him to do various tasks. In the final battle with Saurog, Rodrigo fought valiantly and actually dodge blows, before dealing a heavy blow to the demon serpent.

The first thing we need to do is roll ability scores. DCC uses Strength, Agility, Stamina, Personality, Intelligence, and luck, and they must be recorded in the order they are rolled (3d6), without adjusting them or relocating them.

Want to roll? We'll start with Paul.

There are a lot of things nerds have an elitist superiority complex about when they are actually inferior. This is what this topic is about.

>3.X is the most awful edition of DnD the fact that anyone would think this imbalanced tedious RP-lite mess is good is stupid

>3.X is the most awful edition of DnD the fact that anyone would think this imbalanced tedious RP-lite mess is good is stupid
Agreed

>AoS is closer to what Warhammer both 40k and Fantasy were in their prime; WHFB was a pathetic watered down wargame at least AoS is bringing back what made Warhammer in general interesting and unique from wargames who had at that point lost popularity post 70s; the people who hate on AoS are the ones who have shit taste wanting their shitty so called "wargame" back and don't know jack shit about Warhammer and wargaming
Nice meme, but agreed-ish

>nWoD is better than oWoD; the fuckboys that hate on nWoD cuz it doesn't have shitty oWoD metafluff are not creative enough to be in this hobby and should do something else
Never played either and don't know a damn thing about it

>Shadowrun is a shitshow and the worst cyberpunk system out there. It still relies on dumb cliches which even WoD has moved on from and also suffers from DnD 3.X's too many rules leading to not actually having enough roleplay options
Only point I don't really agree on. Every cyberpunk system out there sucks, desu, Shadowrun is just the least bad of the bunch. And I'd say there's still plenty of roleplay options. Hell, no one says GURPS lacks for roleplay options and it's the definition of rules.
>>
>>44249601

First point is true.

Second point is... iffy. Regardless of how WHFB used to be, AoS is pretty much a shit show in many factors. I mean, by 8th WHFB was pretty bad too, so it wasn't much of a drop.

Third point is correct.

Fourth point is also correct, for the most part.

I award you 7/10, good effort.

Welcome to Academy City. The time is morning, the weather is murky, and the date is February 1.

You are Kyril Torikov, Level 3 telekinetic ‘superhero’ and you were only slightly annoyed. Given the events of yesterday, you had partially expected to jump through some hoops today. You just hadn’t figured that acquiring Asuka’s company for the day would involve going through her mother. At least you didn’t have to brave Tokiwadai’s Outer Dormitory. Regardless, you needed Asuka. She was going to be instrumental to your plans for the day and it was unlikely that she would turn down the chance for some premeditated murder. The Guild had attempted to kill you and Kyousuke the day prior. It was only fair that you tried to kill them right back. That your friend Nakazawa was nearly caught in the crossfire, and on his birthday no less, was beside the point.

As for the hoop that you had to jump through, well, it had to do with Touma yet again. He had come home yesterday. You knew since you had picked him up at the airport. Regardless, Asuka’s mother, the Lady London, had requested that you bring him along if you wanted any chance of walking away with Asuka in your arms. The Lady London had also used words like, “Her Royal Highness,” “fiancée,” and, “double date,” so you were also rather curious about what Touma had been up to in Europe. That, and why had he returned alone. Kaoru was not with him. The problem was whether it was better to show up as VERDICT or as your civilian persona. Knowing the kind of circles the Lady London ran in, Touma’s new girl was undoubtedly Code M. Then again, Asuka’s mother had received a call from “Ilyena’s boy,” your civilian persona. It would be awfully suspicious to show up as VERDICT now.

In the end, you picked Touma up and went as,
>VERDICT
>Kyril Torikov

You went and picked Touma up as Kyril Torikov. It had the added benefit of not having to change costumes while under observation. The only downside was that you were subject to public transportation. You weren’t surprised that the Index was tagging along as you accompanied them to the British Embassy. The guards had stiffened considerably when they caught sight of your party.

“So, does he get a title when he marries or?”

“He does not,” Index answered your question, “Probably. It’s complicated.”

You had been chatting about the British Peerage and other such honours. Your curiosity had mostly come from the fact that the Lady London was obviously Japanese.

“I’m not marrying her, this whole fiancée thing is just a big misunderstanding,” Touma complained.

It went unheard, at least for the two of you.

“Hmph, going back on your words so soon? How despicable?”
The figure of the Second Princess of the United Kingdom was wreathed in an intense yellow. There were no visible weapons on her person. Strangely, or perhaps unsurprisingly, there were no journalists laying in wait.

“Your Highness,” the Index curtsied.

“Such misfortune,” Touma brought palm to face.

“Sister,” the Princess returned, “and who may you be?”

She had turned to address you next.

“Kyril Torikov,” you replied casually.

You hadn’t felt the need to bow and the Princess. Likewise she regarded you coolly.

“Carissa, Military Attaché,” her reply carried a professional air.

“Your Highness, there you are,” the Lady London’s voice carried through the courtyard, “Well, what are you doing man? Let them in.”

Nervously, the guards unlocked the gate and ushered your party inside. The gate swung shut with a resounding clang. Accompanying her mother was Asuka herself.

“A bit of advice, it’s never nice to keep a lady waiting,” the crazy woman continued.

You were pretty sure the look of annoyance on both the Princess and your girlfriend wasn’t because they had been waiting.
