After spending the night in the ship in Jabba’s Hangar, all of you were in the midst of your chores. As you approached the Lion’s Share from Jabba’s refresher, you came upon Misri checking over your new purchase, R3. Next to her was R4, whom was covered in what appeared to be scorchmarks. Now how did that happen while you were away? “Misri. How is he?”

“Eh, can’t complain,” she says. “But no targeting software means that his blasters and other weapons inside him are probably going to go berserk.” R3 chirps, ramming into R4.

“Stop that,” says R4. “That’s annoying.” R3 winds back, and smashes into R4, knocking him over. “Ow! You little-“ R3 quickly speeds around you and Misri, then wheels himself back into the Lion’s Share. “When I get up, I am going to give you a thrashing!” Lev walks by, carrying one last crate of food and ammo. “Lev! Help me up!”

Lev looks down at him for a minute, then continues walking. “No.”

“Damn it!” R4 wiggles himself around, trying to get up. That was the big problem about astromechs. If they fell over on their backs, they couldn’t easily get back up on their own. But you decide to ignore that for now and talk with Misri.

“So we got all the food, all the weapons restocked?” She nods. “Good, good,” you say. “Listen, Misri-“

“I know,” she says. “You’re going to want what the Jawas did to your R-22… polished. Don’t worry, I’ll sand it down for you, repaint it, and all that junk, and you’ll never know you tried to thread a needle and failed in doing it!” She grins. “By the way, that was pretty stupid of you.”

“I’m doing a lot of stupid things lately,” you say. “But thanks regardless, Misri.” She smiles happily, grateful at being complimented. You hear Vikker calling out to you, at the end of the hangar. “Hold on a second.” She nods, moving to pull R4 back upright as you walk over to Vikker. By the look on that aqualish’s face, he does not look very happy at all. “Vikker, what do you need?”

He crosses his arms. “Nothing except to give you my advice. Once the Furies break the blockade and make a hole for us, I say we leave for Coruscant, and just get out. Jogi’s already transferred the papers over to me, we can get through Imperial security fine. But I don’t want to stick around for this Mando political talk. It’s going to get us killed.”

“You sure?” you ask. You step up and squint at the sunset. Kuvasz is busy cleaning guns inside of the ship, so he probably won’t hear the conversation you and Vikker are having. “I mean, yeah, Mandos here can’t be here forever. But I figure we could-“

“Yeah, no. That’s not going to work, not now,” he says. “Listen. I know Lotte screwing us over might have rattled you a bit.” You glare at him. How dare he? Of course, Lotte screwing you over rattled you ‘a bit’. What is he saying? “But that doesn’t mean you should be rushing to be some kind of hero. We’re not heroes, Rhys. Look at me, I’ve spent my best years smuggling and gunrunning. Kuvasz is… well, he’s a Mandalorian. Lev and Sparks are droids designed to kill people, and Misri-“ He stops himself when he sees your expression. If he says anything against Misri, you might just punch him right now. You are not in the mood for this. “Look. Stop thinking about others for once. There’s nothing wrong with being selfish in a galaxy like this.”
>>
>>44249018
[3/3]

“Look, Kuvasz has been good to me,” you say. “I just want to be good to him too.”

“We’ve been plenty good to him. But I’m starting to regret ever hiring him at all. I’m not going to get dragged into some personal crusade of redemption, both for him and you.” He taps your chest. “Make a choice, Rhys. I’m choosing my skin, and yours and Misri’s skin too.” He steps back towards the ship, then steps up the boarding ramp.

Misri turns her head as he looks over R4 for damage. Ah. She heard that. She bites her lip, shrugging nervously as she goes back to checking R4. You sigh, rubbing your forehead.

But at the slight tap your shoulder, you flinch. “Hey.” A weequay guard growls a little, holding up a holopad. “You gots a call from the Empire, some dame named Lotte.”

I'm having issues building a suitably exporable house for a game. /tg/, when you design a building floor plan for a game, where do you draw the line between architectureally believable and playably maze-like? What are your preferences as players? What are some favorites tricks as GMs?
18 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
The building in mind needs to be a vaguely colonial american era mansion, possibly with extentions and alterations from over the years. Problem I find is that the floorplans of those sorts of buildings are all eminently practical with a centrall foyer and off branching rooms. None of that scoobydo style creaky halls shit. Problem is I sorta wanted the weird winding halls, but I'm not even sure how to arrange rooms such that there are corners and long stretches without the floorplan starting to look absolutely ridiculous.

Hallways are a feature of hotels, hospitals, and sometimes offices, rarely residences.

There is no general formula. You have to custom tailor each map to fit, which can be hard as you usually have to steal these from somewhere. Whether the focus is on historical accuracy, atmosphere, tactical layout, or a certain story device that requires a feature, there are no universal maps.

I usually start by deciding on how to convey flavor. Sometimes I want an architectural blueprint, sometimes a hand drawn sketch would be better. Often I find a great photograph and then produce a crude pencil floor plan. It really depends on the sense of space I want the players to have at the location.

How do I become the sword of justice?

Live by a strict code.

Punish EVERYONE who doesn't conform to your views.

Plot twist - your views have nothing to do with alignment, but involve minor things like, tying your shoe laces left over right instead of right over left. Or making sure beggars eat a whole loaf of bread before you finally leave them alone. Even if they aren't hungry.

Or giving exactly 7 gold pieces, 32 silver pieces, and 80 copper to religious temples. Any less and they can't operate. Anymore and they start becoming wealthy and invite greed and avarice into their temple to pollute their sacred teachings.

Non-Chaos or "Good" Beastmen in Warhammer Fantasy?

Discuss.
35 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Beastmen of Sigmar? Sure, why not?
>>
Well beastmen are really just mutated humans, and since mutants can still be good, there's really no reason beastmen couldn't ally with the Empire, or worship "human" gods.

They might not appreciate the gesture but it would be interesting to see scores of beastmen summoning the powers of Sigmar and routing the forces of chaos.
>>
I see no opportunities in the Warhammer world for 'good' beastmen to exist.

Default 'naturally occurring' beastmen have a culture/religion whatever dedicated to tearing down the lawful races. A beastman with different ideas would be as popular as a hijab at a Donald Trump campaign.

Beastmen / mutants born of the peasant women in the villages that are left in the forest to die / get collected by wandering tribes are the same. The best such wretches see of the milk of human kindness is being chucked out instead of being put on the chopping block because some peasant's too scared or won't go through with the dirty work.

Perhaps a hobby for a particularly zealous, well resourced individual? Wizards do crazy shit all the time, and many of the nobility have strange ideas... (but, why my lord, open yourself up to risking having your lands seized and being burned at the stake for a chance at teaching manners to a monstrous rape-baby demonspawn?)

If you stretch the conditions, then yeah, sure, you could have a one-off example. MI could see a tragic story of someone trying to teach a beast-monster to be man, reminiscent of Frankenstein or the Island of Dr Moreau. But the difference here is that the stuff flowing through Beastmen's veins amounts to magical atavistic evil. I'd like it if the story ended with the beastman 'experiemnt' going horribly badly after several seeming 'breakthroughs in the science of educating the savage beast'

Can *truly* alien cosmic horrors ever make legitimately compelling villains in heroic fantasy campaigns? They work in horror, sure, but what about heroic fantasy?

If you make them *truly* alien, then they are, by definition, completely impossible to understand. They act in ways that mortal minds simply cannot figure out any rhyme or reason to. That does not exactly make for an interesting story.

If you make them even vaguely relatable and understandable, then that defeats the point of them being alien cosmic horrors. They become, for all intents and purposes, demons or other spooky otherworldly monsters, just with their own distinct and inexplicably tentacle-laden, for some reason aesthetic.

Use saints.

When there's an incomprehensible being, it's not a bad idea to use intermediaries to help bridge the gap. An alien mind may be the true villain, but the cultist that acts under its orders provides the players with someone who has goals they can comprehend, even if the cultist themselves lacks that ability.

Also, keep your spoilered text to yourself next time.
>>
>>44248186
But then it becomes a matter of the cultist's goals, as opposed to the true villain's goals.
>>
>>44247901
I would say they work well as short term villains, to add a bit of a horror element to a campaign arc, but they shouldn't be used as a BBEG.

Heroic fantasy is all about the hero's battle having meaning to it. But when their enemy is just so different that you can't understand why it does what it does, you lose the emotional motivation. The

So lord. I see you got some land and some peasants working it growing wheat. I've got a no bullshit way of getting more money out of that land, fairly easy too.
1: have your peasants dig a hole in the ground about ten meters to a side and a meter and a half deep, then have them line it with stones.
2: flood said hole in the ground with water
3: Drop a few of these fish i've got living in my tank into the artificial pond
4: Have your peasants throw grain with mashed up into the pond every once and a while
5: After two years or so these fish will have made a whole bunch of fish which have grown up which can be caught and sold for a huge profit, which you keep on doing so long as you throw a few back.

You'll be rolling in gold soon enough with this plan

They do something like that in China; they keep fish in their rice paddies.

However, are you sure that the grain would actually be needed? Couldn't the ecosystem sustain itself based on planted water-plants?

The expression is "once in a while", by the way.

For a certain number of fish, yes. Just as you could feed pigs by enclosing an area and letting them root about all day. But if you want to get a lot of fish per square meter feeding them slop (or grain) is the way to go.

Why do people shit on bards again?
111 posts and 14 images submitted.
>>
Because it isn't obvious how and why they're powerful. It's easy to look at a party of swordsmen, mages, divinely blessed priests and so and go "...So why is the guy with the instrument here?"

Bards are awesome, and have a history of awesomeness in song and story, but it's still not hard to understand why they might seem underwhelming at first glance.
>>
Because they usually just stand in the back tootling away instead of actually doing anything. Yeah, they're buffing, but it's a very static class. And inevitably played by two kinds of people. Those who can't handle being the center of attention whatsoever, and those to try to hog the spotlight at all times.
